What is a VMA?
MTV Video Music Awards. Annual awards show, sort of an alternative to the Grammys, but all of the categories are related to music videos.
Ironic, of course, that MTV still sponsors them, given that the network largely walked away from music videos years ago.
The VMA stunt was bad enough, but this is just shameful.
Unfortunately for West’s rant Beyonce’s video wasn’t nominated in that category. I wondr if since it was up for best video of the year it precluded this category. Having seen both videos now I agree that they are both pretty standard fare.

Frankly if you are just looking at the video I thionk the Katy Perry one should probably have won.
Agreed. Both were crap.
Beyonce wasn’t even nominated in that category, though, so saying she should have won was a bit ridiculous.
I don’t see what was brilliant about either of those videos. Since I tend to like something that tells a story, I would give the nod to Taylor Swift. I’d rather dance to Beyonce’s song but I adore Swift and her music.
Why? Because they are both pop and all pop is trash?
Shrug It’s just my opinion, but Beyonce makes much better pop music than Taylor Swift. Swift is utterly forgettable, while there are Beyonce songs from 8-9 years ago (ages in pop music time) that still sound great.
I know there’s a knee jerk reaction on this board to dismiss everything popular as garbage. Nevertheless, Beyonce is both good, and wildly popular, IMO.
Mediocre?
Surely, using Daft Punk’s Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger as a basis for a track that leadenly lurches along like a funereal march qualifies as some sort of extraordinary achievement. It’s not often you see a sow’s ear fashioned out of a silk purse. Genius!
I liked reading the article and Kanye saying that Taylor’s mother approached him and reacted exactly as his own mother would react. Bet she chewed his ass but good. Too bad that didn’t include him holding a bloody towel containing his testicles.
As far as Beyonce vs. Taylor Swift, IIRC Swift writes her own songs and Beyonce does not. Beyonce is attractive and a good performer, but Swift wins. 
It’s sort of convenient that Kanye is on the new Jay Leno show tonight, right after his rant at the VMAs.
Eh? Whatever it’s entirely subjective. They’re both fluffy popstrels. Fact is, Beyonce could have produced Citizen Kane it still does make what that clown did right. It was a miserable thing to do.

The MTV website list Swift winning “Best Female Video” and then has Beyonce winning “Video of the Year”. Was video of the year not good enough for that asshat?

Who hasn’t watched an award show and been pissed that someone else won?
However, most people are not total assholes and actually go up and steal the moment away from the winner.
Kanye should be banned from ever appearing at another awards show, ever. Period.
Anybody ever seen A Star Is Born? At the end, when the drunk husband staggers up on stage and ruins his wife’s moment? Kanye was even more embarrassing.
I sort of liked Leno tonight making Kanye cry when asking, 'What would your mother have said about you doing that?" Don’t know if those tears were fake or not (and don’t care) but it certainly drove home the point that everyone thinks he was a jerk.
I couldn’t disagree more.
If I could have a conversation with Kanye West, here’s how it would go in my imagination:
Dogzilla: So. Kanye. Did you win any VMAs in the last awards show?
KW: (sheepish) No.
Dz: Uh-huh. And have you won in the past?
KW: (ego puffs up) Yes, I won [insert litany of awards KW has won in the past)
Dz: And when you won you awards, who jumped up on stage and snatched your mike away from you in the middle of your acceptance speech?
KW: Nobody.
Dz: So you were granted the respect to accept your award in peace?
KW: Right.
Dz: So who the fuck do you think you are, snatching that moment away from some little girl who never did anything to you?
KW: I am a putz.
Dz: Damn straight. I sentence you to a tour of the Southeastern United States. You will run a gauntlet, on foot, composed of 1 million Southern little girls and their daddies, all of whom adore Tayor Swift. You will subject yourself to whatever treatment they see fit to bestow upon you. Good luck with that.
KW: I suck. I deserve that.

What do they mean IF?
Ah, good point, Dogzilla! Someone SHOULD jump up on stage the next time he wins an award! 
That’s what has me outraged the most. Kanye has won plenty of awards, IIRC. He got his moment in the sun. What right does he have to take it away from that girl? (Who cares if he was right; I think it’s all crappy pop/pablum anyway.)
I think also, that Beyonce should rip KW a new one, publicly.
