Keep a happy thought in the MMP!

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I’m not trying to be pessimistic, but in my state, I won’t even be eligible until late summer/fall despite the lupus, and that’s assuming the state doubles the number of doses it gets and administers. I feel sorry for everyone who’s eligible and can’t get appointments, but I’m not even at that point yet.

It isn’t the same, but how about we just be Mumper sisters and visit each other early and often? Kibitz several Ttime’s a day over cups of out favorite hot beverage. Mine won’t usually have booze in it, but then again, by 3pm you never know…

That would sure be nice for me. You just chat and knit while I read and chat back.

That looks seriously yummy and sinful. So I printed it out. Graham crackers are not available here, so I have a recipe to make a graham cracker crust from scratch, which I use for my husband’s all time favorite:

Funny thing, he and his sisters grew up thinking it was a special recipe from their grandma. So it’s still referred to as Granny’s Cherry Cheese Pie.

My grandmother’s last two cars were Mercurys. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This reminds me of my friend and I when we were in our low teens. I would call her, or vice versa, to tell her about the book I was reading. And then she’d tell me about the book she was reading. At some point we’d still be on the phone, and we were both reading, but not talking too much. A very good friend.

We got the offer for glassing in our patio and accepted it. So now there’s fiddling with Adobe Acrobat Reader forms which require version 8.0, which was released in 2007, so that we can get the building permit.

Still have to finish the tax papers and make chicken tinga.

Happy Saturday!

My 2bob’s worth from Engerland this rainy Saturday.

The shuftiscope thing is all past now, just got to wait for the biopsy results. All the driving has at least charged the battery back up enough to get the start/stop working again.

We are still locked down but it looks like things may start to ease off before too long. Most of the oldies round here have had one jab at least and they are working hard to get the herd immunity that we need to keep it at bay.

It’s our daughter’s due date today, but she says that there is no sigh of Bump coming out yet. Meanwhile the nearly 4yo has gone back to nursery after a week at home, much to mum’s relief. Mrs Bob would have been there to help but - lockdown. She lives over two hours drive away.

I see comments above about ‘tap and pay’. We have had that here for several years now and it is very widely accepted for up to £45. There was lots of concern at first about scammers and such taking cash by getting near the cards, but that hasn’t been a problem. Covid has encouraged the use of the system as there is no personal contact - we are fast heading towards a cashless society.

The only problem I personally have is that it is so easy to buy stuff without registering how much you have spent. I check my current account daily and have been surprised to see how much we paid for tea and cakes or something. Not a problem atm but when they let us out again…?

Morning, mumpers! Wet and miserable over here today. The weather app says “Annoying fucking rainy bullshit” and promises me 11C/52F all day, partly cloudy with light rain. So far, that seems to be true.

Moooom sorry to hear that the in-laws are challenging, I suppose they are also not used to being in someone else’s home and don’t want to cause any bother. My mum used to be the same with her telly, she eventually got one with a built-in DVD player but never worked out how to use it. She rarely had any interest in DVDs apart from a couple that she bought from somewhere about the history of the town she grew up in. She mastered the art of recording off the TV but never managed to work out how to delete things when she’d watched them. Usually one of my jobs on my regular visits to her was to delete stuff for her, and help her do something on her tablet. She also only ever visited about three web sites, one of which was permanently under construction, and I was expected to know why it didn’t work and when it would be fixed

No big plans for the day, we are heading into town to get some meat and curry sauce from the outdoor market and I’ve got a gift card for Marks & Spencer’s that needs using at some point. And we need a new cocktail shaker as ours is stuck together and no amount of brute force and WD40 will separate the two sections! Blokie dropped it on the floor last night, fortunately it was empty, and since then it’s been welded together. We had to finish making cocktails in the blender, oh the hardship!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until almost seven a.m. ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 59 and N.O.S. for the day. I am over feelin’ puny but my left arm is still sore. This too, shall pass. No big plans for the day at all. I have no want, need, or desire to go anywhere. Any need to feed will be via forage as there’s stuff in fridge that needs to get et up. I have taken some boneless chikin boobs outta da freezer to make Chikin Divan AKA Couch Chikin tomorrow. I may get it assembled at some point today so it can be popped in the oven to bake tomorrow. Or not.

MOOOOOOM happy second jab day!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

In late 2014, my mom and I took a cruise that circled the British Isles before crossing to NYC. From one port, we took a side trip to Stirling, and she and I stopped in a little restaurant for lunch. We didn’t bother changing any money, figuring cards were good everywhere.

At the time, I’d never heard of the chip cards, and the card I was using was not chipped, tho it had a shiny sticker where the chip would normally reside. When I went to pay, the clerk slid it in the device, but naturally, it didn’t work. He had no concept of swiping the card and I had to reach over and do it for him. It’s fortunate that option was available, since, like I said, we had no cash.

The point of this tale is that it appears we in the US are behind our cousins across the pond with respect to spending technologies. This tap to pay is new to me, and I’ll now be on the lookout for the little symbol for machines that accept it. I tried to download an app to my phone, but being a cheapie, it’s not compatible, so I shall try to find another.

BooFae - my youngest sister (she’ll be 56 in May) lives with our mother (they both have health issues/limitations, so it’s mutually helpful) and one would think she’d be able to help out with the technology. One would be wrong. She’s mostly as clueless as Mom. But, to be fair, most of her working years were spent as a bartender, so she didn’t spend much, if any, time with a computer at work, which is how I learned as much as I have. When I go visit, I end up doing various little chores for her, whether fixing bookmarks or finding lost shortcuts or doing basic maintenance. I’m trusted more than my computer-geek BIL who always goes too far trying to “help” - he ends up doing things that he’s used to using but that totally confuse my mother. So she never asks him any more.

Big scare with FIL last night. I’m going to spare you all of the details because it’d just be bitching on my part. You can’t fight the stubborn with them - even FCD is at a loss and it’s is parents. Awful as it sounds, at this point, I just hope my FIL passes quietly in his sleep really soon. Otherwise, I fear it could be an ugly situation where MIL would be helpless to assist and reluctant to summon help. It’s pretty close to impossible to deal with this with them.

Swampy - I think the best part of jab day is after I get home - Roxy et. al. are coming to visit, and we’re having pizza for supper. Huzzah!! Plus we’re supposed to have a sunshiny day, if barely above freezing, so maybe we’ll get some melting and drying.

My exciting plans include laundry and trying to help FCD get his pellet stove working again. I may push the vacuum around, too. Good times!

Happy Saturday!!

I’m up WAY too early, especially for the sleep deficit I’ve had this week. Ugh.

Morning all. Up at 7am, which wouldn’t be so bad if I hadn’t gone to bed about 12:30am… And no nappage, soccer from 10am-4pm today, so should be an early night tonight.

Glad so many of you are getting your shots. This being Ali-bama and we having to be 48th or 50th in so many things… Like nettie, I’ll try to keep my hopes up that they get their act together.

2bob, hoping Bump becomes Baby soon.

nellie, there’s still hope in the world and your reporting of random acts of kindness during your walks helps keep mine up.

red, that’s the report, nothing has happened yet, but we’ve gotten most of the ‘name’ places down here in the past few years, so it wouldn’t surprise me. Liked thier stuff the few times I’ve had it.

OK, need to do a few things around and about the house, then off to soccer. All y’all take care.

Yesterday was Friday, which means Mexican food. Only, Mrs. L.A. is tired of it so we went down the beach for cheeseburgers and beer. She had thick spiral-cut fries (think of one of those rotary apple slicers) and a bowl of clam chowder, and I had a salad with blue cheese dressing. She couldn’t get through her burger, so I helped her out by eating the rest of the meat. She brought half her soup and half her fries home.

Not looking like a great day here. There is water dripping from the ceiling, so I must have ice dams, but where it’s dripping from makes no sense. Essentially from under my bedroom. So I think the dam is on top of the little front porch roof. And it’s snowing. Again.

nellie I’m in the same boat as you. There was a look up when you are eligible to get the shot thingy (on CNN?) a few weeks ago. I came in at somewhere around 260 million.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you when you get back-maybe when you get a chance to pour yourself a mug of tea or coffee, grab a coaster (:upside_down_face:) and sit down in your spiffy new recliner. Hug Roxy for me while you’re at it. I’m so sorry about the FIL and MIL-I’ve been in the midst of that so many times as a home health nurse. I think you’ve figured it out exactly right about what will most likely happen. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:, FWIW. Remember though, we are here for you to blow how steam with about it, as much as you need to.

I remember something similar a few days ago. I think I bookmarked it-next time it pops up I’ll try to remember to post it here. I’m trying to track “how to get the vaccine where I am” for my sister in Iowa since I have approximately one scintilla more computing/website skills than she does. She is in Iowa, which sounds as half assed and ass backwards as where you and nellie are. Again, I’m keeping my fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:for you all.

nellie, I’m in a similar boat to you. I’m slated as 1C in Tennessee and we’re just now entering 1B. I’m thinking April or May.

Congrats on the upcoming baby 2bob! Is this your first grandchild?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, laundry in the dryer, KP done and waiting for the AT&T guy to get here to upgrade my service before going to grocery shop.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I’ll be dumping instead of heaving today.

{{{{Nellie}}}}

Not sure why that didn’t post…
So we were shorthanded. And way too many of the bags had too many boxes jammed in them, so when I dumped them, instead of just falling out so I could kick the living shit out of gently foot them don the slide, the whole 30lbs. bag went crashing to the catwalk, almost taking my rotator cuff with it. And of course The Powers That Be waited to the end of sort to realize it might be wise to spend payroll to get the Saturday delivery stuff on the package cars before Monday. Then for Second Sort, the boxline train broke. Right when the table was filling up. :grimacing: At least I squeezed in some OT.

{{{{FairyChat family}}}}

I’ve been shot… again! So far, no reaction - well, maybe an itsy bitsy touch of a headache.

And now I’m home awaiting the arrival of Roxy and her parents. In about 90 minutes, I’ll order pizza. But now, chillage.

moooomm, below I copied the text I got from my son Thomas Thursday when I got home from getting my jab. He’s the doctor kid working in a huge hospital system near Detroit so I figure his advice is trustworthy. I haven’t had any need (knock on wood) but it is nice to know there’s something that’s ok to use if needed to be more comfortable.

Take some Tylenol if you start feeling a malaise. The Pfizer shot is really good at being seen by your immune system and some people really feel it

I think a headache qualifies. Hope Roxy is as much Grandma fun as ever.

Ice dam(n)s indeed on the roof of the front porch. Snow melt coming off the main roof onto the porch roof started getting stuck on the porch roof, then, instead of flowing to the ground was going towards the house.

Two things, carrying a ladder through 2 foot deep snow is difficult, and standing on a roof in snow is treacherous. But, I did hack a few channels through the dam, so hopefully that will help.

Off to start soup. Stay safe, all.

You stay safe too, please! Carrying ladders in snow…climbing up on icy roofs…

I went for a little chat with the manager this morning about Mr. and Mrs. Loud downstairs. He said Mr. was in yesterday on an unrelated matter and brought up my note asking them to keep it down. (I’d brought a copy with me so manager could see it was a nice note.) Mr. said there’s nothing he can do about the loud talking, but the manager asked him to just be conscious and keep his voice down–also that I’m a nice lady who’s never complained before. Mr. and Mrs. are shouting as I type this. As I suspected, these folks have never lived in an apartment before.

I also asked about the very loud diesel trucks. Manager said there’s nothing he can do. I said well, now you’ve got something that’s bothering a number of tenants to the point some may not renew leases. He said he’d talk with the owners.

I need to live in a Cone of Silence.

Oh, and we got a notice saying if we signed leases now, the (increased) rents, effective after the eviction moratorium is over, would be locked in; otherwise, they’re going up even more. I went ahead and signed, as they said the rents would go up even higher if we waited. Turns out that’s illegal. I asked if that nullified the lease I signed, but the manager didn’t know. Yeesh. The owner will call me Monday.

I’m postponing cleaning out the refrigerator. I don’t know why I hate it so. It’s also laundry day, and I’m going to wash the bedding, as well. I won’t start that until after my walk.

Thanks for being so very kind about my jab jabber. I appreciate it. And Boo, if you happen upon that site, I’d love to see it. I’m not lonely, as I talk with family and friends often, but I need to be with family and kids. I know others are in the same boat, so extra hugs to VanGo and Red and everyone else farther back in line. And here’s one for {{{{nettie}}}} because insomnia sucks.

doggio, I hope you have a happy, frustration-free evening, perhaps with the aid of some Potent Potables.

Confused I am. Tap to Pay has been here in the US for at least a few years. Some credit card companies were a little slow to initiate it. I think it’ll be old school soon, though, as we’ll all be using our phones for that. I mean, we can use Google Pay or Apple Pay now, but within a few years, CC companies will be using that technology, and most of us won’t carry credit cards at all. Brave New World, here we come!

Did some digging into the sites I’d sent my sister, hoping she in Iowa could get jabbed so I could drive there late Spring and hug her non-stop. She’s 68 and my long-lost bio sister. Let me know if this doesn’t work and I’ll try even harder to find the right site. You can type in your state of residence. Your is Oregon? Washington state?

I’ll be waiting to hear if my ham handed copy and paste worked.
