Keeping track in the MMP

I belong to BJs, but only because their website is often the sole place where I can find my preferred protein shakes. Otherwise, clubs like that aren’t useful to me; I can’t even find anything else I want at BJs (that I can’t get locally).

I am so glad it’s Friday. I’m mildly grumpy about having to work today. It’s overcast and chilly and rainy, and I just want to go build some LEGOs or play some piano or do some reading/watch TV with Bailey on the couch next to me. But, alas, it isn’t even 2pm yet. Woe is me…woe, I say!

In happy news, I get to see my BFFs tomorrow! We text regularly (the wife BFF and I text daily), but I haven’t seen them since Christmas Eve. Unfortunately their son is in Texas for spring break, visiting his girlfriend, so I won’t get to see him. But the three of us finally synced our calendars, and my “in person” activities finally slowed enough (WBFF is immunocompromised so they’re still being super careful). I’ll meet them at their place for an early-ish lunch, then we’ll all head to Alexandria: WBFF has a jewelry repair ready for pickup at a terrific independent store that happens to be having an anniversary sale, and we figure we’ll get there early enough that it shouldn’t be very busy. It’s been a while since I’ve been to this store, which has a great mix of fine jewelry and costume pieces. I really don’t need to spending any significant chunks of money at the moment, but I also really have trouble denying myself…

Too bad this won’t work out; it looks amazing!

I totally get it, though: a few months ago a friend and I were toying with the idea of doing either Blue Note At Sea or The Jazz Cruise in 2024, but then I looked up the price of a single room with a balcony (which is what I know I’d need). Hard pass!

Gentle :people_hugging:

What rocking_chair said…I got tired just reading that!

Howdy Y’all! Sloth has been high on the agenda. We did (well OYKW did) go pick up some fish ‘n chips from LJS for N.O.L. Nappage has also been accomplished. After readin’ what all MOOOOOOM has been doin’, however, I feel tahrd and in need of more nappage! In a little while I shall don appropriate attire and head on over to the church house to get stuff started. I want to clean the sink I’ll be usin’ before preppin’ the beasts. Of course this means I’ll have to clean the sink after preppin’ as well. Glad we have plenty of disposable gloves as I detest touchin’ raw meat. ICK!

{{{Ace}}} I believe most docs and other health care pros do genuinely care about their patients. However, they can’t get too emotionally involved lest they get overwhelmed. Of course there are some just in it for the money, but I believe they are few and far between.

I have read all but retention is next to nil right now, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

Afternoon all. Did make it to the gym for swimming and sauna and had a Diet Pepsi once home. Bright and shiny outside, but only 62F and about the same is on tap for tomorrow. Big Bowl O’Sallit is on the menu for tonight, so might sneak a snack in there.

Must…Restrain…Self…

Oopsie, enjoy the date tomorrow. And spending on yourself once and awhile is not a bad thing.

FCM, I may do one of those jobs today…may.

Flyboy, looked up the menu for that place, now need a towel to clean up the drool…enjoy.

Sari, sounds like Cerby has multiple personality disorder (canine version). Take care.

red, enjoy the music.

OK, need to get back to serious internettin’, so all y’all take care.

Howdy, y’all! The white crap started falling around 2, not supposed to stop til 10 tomorrow morning. Right now it’s about 33 ferret height, so it was a fun slippy drive back around the lake. I didn’t quite as much done at the shop today as I wanted, so may go in tomorrow, depending on the roads. Sunday is load-in day for the musical, so a short-to non-existent weekend for me.

{{{Ace}}}

Happy Firday! I decided to try the nuclear option and took 10 mg. of the devil’s drug (prednisone). I think the itching is somewhat better, but now I’m really nauseated, so much so that I put off going to the gym. I think I’ll force myself to go anyway, though, and hope I don’t puke. Hopefully I’ll still be able to sleep tonight. I hate this stuff.

ace, most of my surgeons have been really nice, and a few have been extremely kind. I think they’re well aware of what families go through and how important their patients are to their loved ones. After all, they’ve had to go talk to the family after the surgery and have seen the responses first-hand. During the surgery they’re detached, which is exactly what you want. I mean, I wouldn’t want a surgeon who hesitates and starts weeping because he likes me and starts what-iffing, would you?

Our lab had digestion issues. One February night she stunk up the place so much, we had to open all the windows. I often wanted to hang a car-freshener on her tail.I’ve heard seals and sea lions have the worst-smelling gas, so I’ve vowed I’ll never get one as a pet.

sari, glad Cerby is acting all Dr. Jeckyll today. It worries me that he goes into Mr. Hyde mode so fast, though.

Ursala Kitteh just horked up a hair ball on the carpet. She was about 2 inches from the tile, but noooooooo, the carpet is better.

Laundry, KP and grocery shopping is finished, as well as filling up the gas tank.

Just got finished with a bunch of texts with SIL. Her knee and hip are bothering her (she walks with a cane) a lot today. Coupled with my allergy issues, we made the executive decision to do something that’s indoors and mostly seated. The nephew is still making the Italian wedding soup though.

Howdy Y’all! Home from cookin’ corned beasts and parboiling the chikin that will be grilled tomorrow. I posted a couple pics of the corned beasts on my book of faces page should anyone desire to go take a look. It was taste tested for quality assurance purposes and pronounced good by the taste testers. They are ex-Marines, so I dub them experts.

I’m making corned beast & cababbage for St. Pat’s, of course. But I wonder if there isn’t another way of cooking corned beef?

Thanks Wordy, I appreciate it. Just by coincidence my friend texted me from Costco asking if I needed anything. Unfortunately, I was using the facility. When I saw her text an hour later, she was on her way home. But once she was home we spoke and she said she’ll be going back within the next week and so I’ll have a new bottle by next weekend. We both buy the same thing: Ground Saigon Cinnamon 10.7 oz.

Is Grumpy worse than a Karen? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thank you so much Nona. Remembering you and your husband in my prayers

AMEN; great advice.

lily I’ve bookmarked the cruises website; thanks for the link.

It started snowing about 1am and continued for about 13 hours. But the flakes were very small and somewhat wet. There was accumulation however I was only able to shovel a narrow path to the car before we had to leave for chemo this morning. First I washed dishes then made Hubs breakfast. Originally I took a book to read while waiting at the hospital but the snow covered tree branches were so pretty that I decided to walk the asphalt path through the woods behind the college across from the hospital. Great decision, it was so beautiful and amazingly the County Parks department had plowed the snow off the asphalt and bridge over the river. I took about 1/2 dozen pictures, so beautiful, so peaceful. Well except for the 2 geese standing on fallen trees in the middle of the river who kept honking at the 2 ducks that were trying to pass through to the other side of the trees. When we came back, the sidewalk in front of the house was shoveled. Thank you to the neighbor who did so. So, I grabbed my grocery list and the $6 off a purchase of $60 coupon and headed to Kroger. Got everything on the list except for the dark chocolate Lindt Easter bunnies, they only had white chocolate and we wanted dark chocolate.

Completed shoveling the front porch and the driveway then settled down to watch Big Ten basketball. Unfortunately my Spartans came out lackluster and lost to the Buckeyes. Oh well, hopefully they can get motivated for The Dance aka NCAA Tournament aka March Madness. I’m on the 4th game now Indiana vs Maryland. Should be the best game today.

Oh, and Hubs finally made contact to get his ultrasound scheduled for the leg issue for next week at the downtown hospital. I say ‘finally’ because his PCP said it could be done at the hospital, or I guess I should say Medical Center, in our city. For some reason when he called, he connected with a hospital in a city south of us who said it could be done at the hospital in our city so they transferred him but they said they don’t have the equipment to do that type of ultrasound. Finally he was able to talk to someone at the hospital downtown and they scheduled him for 3pm next Wednesday. This likely means that we’ll hit rush hour on the way home on the I94 expressway. Oh well, as long as they can diagnose what is causing the pain, I’m ok with it.

I got the workout in, and I’m glad I did. People seemed especially friendly and cheerful today. My stomach is starting to feel better now that the prednisone is wearing off. I definitely won’t take any tomorrow.I may bump up the already high antihistamine doses back to Crisis mode.

After the gym, I decided to mosey to the grocery store to get the tea I forgot last time. The WPTB said we had only a 30% chance of rain, but it was raining when I left, so I got drenched. I really want to work at the NWS. They must party a lot.

CatGlove, that sounds like a soothing, soul-satisfying walk.

See, this is why geese are considered the hoodlums of the bird world (by me, anyway). I hope you get answers on hub’s leg and don’t get stuck in traffic.

I’ve tried baking it with ice cubes in foil and thought it was less tender, so I stick to the old simmering method and then try to figure out what to do with the greasy water. Maybe I should haul the pan to the compacter (sans the corned beef, of course).

Geese are evil nasty jerks, in my experience.

Cabbage, of course!

I bought cabbage today but I’m going to use it to make golumbki.

My best fiend’s mom was half Polish. I liked her golumpki.

Even if everything else in your life was all unicorn farts and rainbows, this would still be enough to put anyone in a foul mood!!!

No coffee. You poor thing.

I agree with everyone saying apply for everything and see what happens. Food stamps and state health insurance doesn’t usually look at assets, they go by monthly income. I think you can apply for them online in your state, so it will give you something annoying to do while you are waiting for more scary things to happen.

I think most medical folks do it because they want to help people. I’ve worked in medical offices and have heard the doctors and nurses talking about their patients between themselves. For the most part, they really do care and want to do what they can to help.

I’m vertically challenged and hubs can’t lift his arms over his shoulders anymore so we can’t take our screens off by ourselves anymore. It sucks. Last year, our housekeeper took the screens down for me to wash while she did the windows and that’s probably what’s going to happen in years to come cause we ain’t gettin any younger.

If it wasn’t for the cats, we could wait another year or so if we had to, but they will only get more costly, so best to do it now. We probably only need to rescreen one of the windows on the north side of the place because they don’t get direct sunlight, but hubs thinks we should do them all at once, so that is what we will do.

I’m really looking forward to the screen doors, they will make spring and fall much more enjoyable.

Excellent explanation, it’s so good that us Mumpers are so smart and have such a variety of experiences that we can help in many ways.

Your homemade dog food sounds very acceptable for cats, so Adam should probably always get his own bowl. He still needs his kibbles so he gets enough taurine, but I can sure understand why he wants some. (You can buy taurine at health food stores if Adam starts refusing kibble, it isn’t that costly and you can’t OD him by adding too much to his bowl of homemade fud.)

Thank you. I was afraid I was the only one who almost took the bait.

Yeah. That’s my worry as well. I don’t know dogs, but from the little bit I do know, Cerby isn’t normal and I worry too.

Puking is hard work and cats need to be able to brace themselves while horking. They can hook their claws into the carpet and hold on while their bodies are violently expelling the offending substance. If they hork on tile, they can’t brace themselves so keep moving backwards leaving a stream of puke and bile instead of a pile.

/glares at our snarf and barf kitty/ I shouldn’t know that much about cats’ puking habits.

Good soup always makes my hip feel better cause good soup always makes everything better!

Oh you sweet summer child. Marines eat anything and everything and call it good as long as it isn’t burnt to coal or raw and cold…and some Marines would call that good too! Just don’t try to pass salads off as food, cause that’s not food, that’s what food eats.

You just don’t feed them right. I love geese. I want some pet geese, but that is a hill hubs will die on. His grandmother told him to not kick her geese, but he did it anyhow and hasn’t gotten over it in 65 years.

Something about the way you said this got me laughing. Thanks.

Amazingly, considering grooming himself is Buddy’s #2 way to spend time (#1 is of course sleeping, since he is a cat), I’ve never known him to hairball. Allie does occasionally (she doesn’t groom as much, but her fur is thicker). Felix (RB), who was a longhair we thought might be part Maine Coon, could hurl hairballs an impressive distance, and once greeted me when I came home by upchucking. Then there was the time I was awakened by those unmistakable noises, to find Felix perched on the headboard in “Snoopy playing vulture” pose right above DH’s face. That may be the only time I’ve ever seen him levitate.

The crew of Breaking Cat News actually offered their own explanation for why carpet is better than hard floor to urp up on.

If I ever open a restaurant for cats, I’m going to call it The Snarf and Barf Cafe.

From what I’ve read, the issue is that geese are extremely territorial and will attack any other creature in whatever they’ve decided is their territory, including humans. Everyone’s a threat. It’s kind of like the NRA finding out their picnic spot is the site of a Rainbow Gathering.

See how it is. Nobody understands the answer to this. You just have to feed them into submission. Fat geese are happy geese.

I used to have a friend who had geese and once he told me how to deal with geese, we have always gotten along. Geese are so soft and such loving parents.

Of course, I can remember the time I showed a work friend a picture of Steve (the best cat in the world) while he was an under the porch cat. She was surprised that Steve didn’t look skinny and mangy and someone else walking by started laughing and said that of course my porch cat looked good because This is Jane, of course her stray cats look well fed, the local kinglets probably have trouble getting to the top of the fence because they are too fat to fly through the fence slats.

Hubby wanted a normal dark chocolate bunny. Store has white, white with strawberry, glamour milk chocolate, normal milk chocolate, hazelnut chocolate and 70% dark chocolate (black ribbon). But no normal dark chocolate (which I believe is 60%) with the brown ribbon. Not sure where the normal dark chocolate bunnies are hiding.

They might be hiding underneath the snow we got overnight. It’s still snowing and it’s very wet. The hyacinths are not impressed at all. Hope they recover.

Because the weather forecasters told us to expect snow, we did the necessary grocery shopping yesterday and will be staying in today. Tomorrow’s supposed to be a lot warmer, so this snow won’t last long.

Today is doing some freezer sorting. I want to make sure there’s nothing from 2021 (or older) still lurking in a corner, and also make sure that 2022 is used up before mid 2023. So today I’m making cranberry sauce to use up one of the bags of cranberries. I know there’s egg whites in there as well, but I think the angel food cake will wait until Tuesday.

Enjoy the Saturday!
