Thanks. I am loving retirement!
doggio and metal mouse and yall might get a “kick” outta this
Even better advice! I was always so overwhelmed by what was happening at the moment that I never thought of questions I had until after the doctor rushed in and back out.
Retirement is magical. It’s wonderful. It’s like “me time” for the rest of your life!
From the article:
An official quickly ran over, picked the dog up and walked him off the pitch so the game could carry on. The dog didn’t seem bothered by that one bit, either, and was clearly very proud of himself.
He does look pleased. I got a laugh at all the guys standing around with their hands on their hips. “Now what?!?”
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Sounds like a band I’d love to hear
he might be a tad crazy, even for me. I hope the med changes helps him, though.
{{{{Ace and Hubs}}}} and apply for everything. And I’d second getting a third opinion of the surguries.
I was on the end of that for a while. Some neighbor’s cat, “Tex”, according to his collar, would come over to our apartment, beat up my roommate’s GSD, eat his food, and nap on our couch on a daily basis. He must have been part Maine Coon, because he was 20 something pounds
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and a little rainy with a predicted high of 71 and rain tnis mornin’ through the afternoon. We shall see. This evenin’ I shall head over to the church house around four-thirtyish to start cookin’ for the big St. Patrick’s feast tomorrow. Tonight will be cookin’ the corned beasts, parboilin’ chikin laigs and thighs, and other miscellaneous stuff The beasts will get wrapped in heavy duty foil once they are done and put in da fridge overnight. Tomorrow will be preppin’ and cookin’ veggies and other stuff in prep for the big feast which starts at five p.m. We shall get fish 'n chips from Long John Silver’s for N.O.L. which will be the main feed of the day. Until I head out there will also be major sloth to accomplish.
Nettie and Bob glad Buddy found his way back to his main digs.
{{{Ace}}} so sorry for all that is goin’ on with hubs and you. Definitely apply for unemployment and get COBRA. Get more opinions on the surgery if y’all feel you need to do so. Come in here and vent or whatever you need. We’ll always lend an ear.
sari hope the vet can figure out what’s goin’ on with Cerby and that uppin’ meds helps.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Good morning. Thank you for the tips, and the kind words.
I’m not sure what the day will hold, other than it’s supposed to get up to 43F, later. It’s a cool 36F, right now. The dog is farting, and it’s about ready to drive me out of the damned room. I can’t have coffee, because I’m having fasting bloodwork done at 11. I’m in a mood. A foul mood.
Hubs will be going to talk to the surgeon, next. So, that’ll be the third opinion. I wonder, though…Do these doctors/surgeons/etc., even give a rat’s ass about the patients? Do they really care? Do they care that their patients have family, and friends, that love them, and are worried about them, and what might happen to them? Or, do they only act like they care, because they’re able to string along their patients, so they can amass more money for themselves?
I told you I was foul.
Have a good day, folks.
Yeah, when I started the booking process and the sums started adding up, I realized it’s probably not going to happen. Unless someone drops $30K in my lap and says “Here - have fun!!” What really killed me was realizing that even just getting a room with a window would be super-stoopit expensive, let alone a balcony. And 35 days in an inside cabin just doesn’t appeal. Dammit. I really want to take that one. Maybe it’s time to get a lottery ticket or two…
Speaking of night skies - back about 1973-ish when I was in Memphis for my first Navy training, a classmate and I drove out to Shelby Forest one night and I was absolutely amazed by the number of stars! Having grown up in suburban Baltimore in a neighborhood with street lights and such, I’d only seen the biggest and brightest. But holy crap on a cracker, are there a lot of stars out there!!!
Ours are still in decent shape, but they’re cruddy. I mentioned to FCD earlier this week that one of the spring’s chores will be scrubbing screens. The hardest part of that is having to do them one or two at a time in order to get the correct ones back in the correct windows. I’m thinking the approach should be one of us cleans the windows while the other takes the screens to clean. So we have that to look forward to…
hippie - I am in awe of your work. I’m enough of a seamstress to recognize the skills you have. Looking forward to future photos.
Just hazarding a guess here - they probably work hard to keep a distance, lest they get to emotionally involved. I had a friend who worked as a nurse in an oncology unit and she had to change specialties because it tore her apart as her patients died. I can see surgeons facing a similar struggle since they’re the ones poking around their patients’ innards. Plus, some people just aren’t good talking about certain things with others.
Yeah, some are jerks, but I truly believe that many are just trying to do the best they can while maintain their sanity.
We’re going out to breakfast this morning at a place we haven’t been to in years. I figure it’ll be less crowded on a Firday than on the weekend. Then I’ll do some laundry because there’s always laundry. FCD was going to work on the boat, but he was complaining about his feet and legs hurting - I suggested he take to day off and I’ll go with him tomorrow. It’s going to be rainy and miserable for the next couple of weeks but the work has to get done, and at least we can be inside the boat. The stuff on the outside will wait for milder weather.
What do any of you know about cash gifts and taxes? I know the limit for 2023 is $17,000 per person and the giver is supposed to pay the taxes. But how does the IRS know? Is it merely up to the honor of the giver to report it?
I’m thinking back over the years when our parents made us some pretty substantial loans. We always paid them back, so the gift tax wasn’t an issue, but neither party was ever asked to explain why such sums were passed from one to the other.
I seem to recall that banks are required to report transactions of $10K or more, since they could indicate nefarious activities. But even tho we’ve had loans larger than that, no one has ever contacted us or asked about them. I don’t want any problems in case any of you decide to give me a bunch of cash, because I’m nice, dammit.
OK, FCD is awake and I need a shower and breakfast. Happy Firday!!
Thanks
Morning all. Rain has departed, but so has the 70F temperatures, high today is only getting to 58F. Need to get back to exercising at the gym after two days hanging around the house. Other than that, not much on the schedule.
{{{{{ace}}}}}. Can’t offer anything but hugs, I think the Mumpers above have made excellent suggestions, we’re here if you need us. And being frustrated with the Drs. is normal; but like FCM says, if they got to close to all their patients (like the TV docs do), it would eat them up; plus, these days, they probably have so many patients that it would be overwhelming to know any of them well–just life in the 21st century. Take care.
FCM, don’t know about bank transactions, nobody has ever given me a pile of cash (outside of my Dad’s estate when he passed away).
JtC, ah, someone else with the joys of home ownership… My screens went in with the new windows a few years back, so they should still be OK (and don’t have cats leaning against them…)
swampy, enjoy the preparations for the feasting.
shady, thanks for the clip, as a youth soccer referee I have to watch out for dogs and toddlers invading the field (usually with an adult chasing them). If the Philadelphia team was smart they’d adopt him and bring him back to Philly.
You and me both!
{{{Sari}}}, true, there are a lot of sick people in the world; but then there is you and our jolly crew of Mumpers, trying our best to balance it out.
BBBoo, I probably could try to claim it, but since I can’t prove when it fell or that the storm caused it, probably not worth the time. Still haven’t heard back from the fence folks, I’ll give them until Moanday then try again.
OK, have broken fast and taken the BP pill, so the morning necessities are done. Take care all and I’ll report in later.
sari, I hope that adjusting Cerby’s meds does the trick. As far as a microwave (or any other oven) over the stove, that’s just setting someone up for serious burns when taking a hot vessel from it.
ace, what FMLA does is gives your hubby continued employment for 26 weeks id he (or another family member) need to take time out for medical issues and no pay involved. Depending upon the company, they may continue to subsidize their share of the medical insurance, but he would be eligible for COBRA if they don’t. If he has short / long term disability insurance, you need to get signed up for that pronto. It won’t cover 100% of his paycheck, but it will provide some income. Not sure about Indiana’s unemployment requirements, but if he’s drawing disability insurance, he may not be eligible (the DI will likely be bigger than UI anyway). If his company has an employee assistance line, now would be the time to start talking to them. They can sherpa you through their end of the process. Hugs to you both.
That dog video was funny shady.
The next time you’re around Nashville (or Knoxville, since they play there every couple of months), I’ll meet up with you at the pub, festival or coffeehouse where TSC is playing doggio. Shoot, I’d even introduce you to the band members.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of jeans in the dryer and other clothes in the wash. I’ve decided to give myself a by week for houseirk other than laundry, grocery shopping and KP today, even though I’m feeling quite a bit better. Even though I slept a bunch yesterday, I still slept last night. The shot is beginning to kick in, so I should be OK for the festival tomorrow.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Breakfast was yum! Laundry is in the washer.
Brace yourselves - I’m about to < gasp > dust…
Happy Friday!
We were late to the park, and it was snowing lightly. It won’t last though; it’s supposed to get up into the 40s today.
My son took a vacation day and was home last night. I left my bedroom door open. Cerby usually stays downstairs when my son is home, and my room gets awfully hot with the door closed.
First time ever, in the four months Cerby has been here, Cerby and Ripple were sleeping side by side on the bed, and Cerby had his nose touching Ripple.
Two days ago, he wanted to kill him. Now they are cozied up together.
Cerby ain’t right in the head.
My son caught Adam trying to get into the sink last night. I emptied the dog food pot and put it in the sink and ran water in it. Adam wanted to lick the pot. He loves homemade dog food.
He’s so cute when he begs for some.
I have so much to do today. Same as every day.
I want to take a nap.
I think it is disgusting that the IRS imposes a gift tax. People should be able to give gifts without the government getting involved.
We should be able to do a lot of things without the government getting involved.
Ace, I think some doctors are very caring, as much as they can be. There is no doubt though that some are in it for the money. I love my cardiologist and if he is in it for the money, he does a good job of hiding it. One of my previous doctors, I know for sure, was in it for the money. I think most doctors care about keeping you alive and healthy, even if they don’t care about you personally.
I’m sorry you are going through this. It’s too much information all at once. My nerves would be frayed.
I need some breakfast. I’m so sore though, that I don’t even want to stand up.
For cheap cruises (and other tours on linked sites), try vacationstogo.com. We have booked a number of trips with them and haven’t found any disadvantages. For fun, try the 90-day ticker for very cheap cruises.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 3c.37f with no predicted changed today, and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Fucking clouds” as if that somehow makes a difference. This morning it was snowing heavily and work was panicking about how many people might be able to get in and open offices. Now it’s bright sunshine, and all the snow’s melting so we don’t have to worry about people not being able to get home.
Ace so sorry to hear about everything that’s going on with you and Hubs. I agree with the advice about keeping notes and taking that book to every appointment. You have so much going on at the moment, it’s little wonder you can’t keep it all in your head. I don’t know much about your benefits/social security system but I would apply for everything possible in the hope that you’ll qualify for at least some of it.
Moooom the cruise looks amazing, I must go and buy a lottery ticket!
sari I hope you can get to the bottom of what’s going on with Cerby, he definitely doesn’t sound “right” but you need to know why it’s happening.
Nettie and Bob I’m glad the Ginger Ninja made it home safely! My pair have not strayed far from home due to the nasty weather. I did send a message to Kevin’s owner the other day to let her know that he was in our house in case she was worried about him getting caught out in the snow. He thinks he lives here, so at least if he’s not with her, she knows he’s probably over here stuffing his face with leftover food that ours don’t want.
I have read much and retained little, as you might expect on a Friday afternoon!
I did Smalls, then I worked in Iregs for a bit. No weird smells or spills today. Although it did rain. I stopped and bought some rye on the way home, because hitting the Likker So at 10:00 in the morning on a Lenten Friday is delightfully sinful.
The should name him “Striker”, and make him the mascot.
Gordie once ripped one so foul, he fled the room.

I’ve used Vacations To Go and I’ll be watching them to see if this particular cruise goes down in price the closer to departure. But for now, our efforts and resources are going into our boat in the hopes that we can do some cruising on our own - with luck, to Maine next summer.
Haven’t dusted, but I did clean both bathrooms, including scrubbing the tub - there was a ring left from when I let the kids play in it. No one uses that tub when we don’t have guests, so I didn’t sweat it, but since I was scrubbing already… I also did the kitchen floor - it was more disgusting than I’d thought. The tiles are shades of gray - kinda simulating marble - so dirt isn’t really obvious. Yet once it’s clean, it’s apparent! As soon as I throw the clothes into the dryer, I’ll grab a dust rag and some Pledge. So if you feel a disturbance in The Force…
I am not a Happy Homemaker. But there is satisfaction in cleanliness.
Wassamatter - white bread not good enough for you?
I crack me up!
Mrs. L.A. said she’d like to go to Shawn O’Donnell’s Farmhouse Restaurant in Mount Vernon for breakfast tomorrow. It’s about 52 miles away from here. She said we can take our Discover Pass in case we wanted to continue on out/down to Coupeville to the Admiralty Head lighthouse.
All righty then. I dusted, I vacuumed, I changed the filters in the vacuum, did a load of laundry, loaded the dishwasher, cleaned both bathrooms upstairs, cleaned the kitchen floor. Still gotta clean the cat box, but I think I’ve earned a break. Whew!
wow! a break and a treat!
