Glad my week with the kids is done. Tobias was really sleepy much of today - he actually napped starting around 11, which is early for him. And even after he woke, he just wanted to sit on my lap and cuddle. Tho when I got them home, he and his sister rassled and stuff.
Found a cruise we’re seriously considering. Best part is that it’s round trip out of Boston, so we don’t have to worry about airfare. We’d probably just take a train - if we decide to do this.
FCD also got the quote for installing bow and stern thrusters and having the bottom of the boat painted. We just need to figure out payment. Some will come from his mom as his share as executor, but we’ll need to tap our resources also. That’s the detail that needs to be resolved.
Nasty weather promised tomorrow and into Saturday, so I’m not sure what the plan is, apart from needing to do some laundry. It’s kinda nice not having fixed plans.
Evening all. Duct people did show up and collect their trash, but they just waltzed into my garage and started working (I had left it open) without knocking on my door or otherwise letting me know they were there! I usually tip workers, but this crew got nothing more from me. Just finished a large burger and Diet Pepsi, so I am both stuffed and watching my calories… More rain due tonight, however and it’s noticeable cooler outside.
FCM, just looked up that cruise, sounds great and if FCD doesn’t want to go, I’ll be your roomie…but I think one 5-figure cruise every 3-4 years will do for me and I’ve had mine.
DH of Nettie, Buddy probably will wander back home once the rain is gone.
Cat Glove, glad you got your pizza fix, and Hubs got his treatment.
OK, face has been amply fed and car is back in the garage where it belongs, so all is (mostly) right with the world. Everyone take care now.
Yeah, I took a sick day today because I couldn’t sleep much last night for breathing issues. I went in for an allergy shot this morning, then came home and read between naps. I’m feeling a little better, but will likely sleep sitting up again tonight. I hope that your itch goes away soonest.
doggio, The Secret Commonwealth (fan group are the Screaming Blue Woadies) play mostly Celtic pub music, but wander into some Americana for the eclectic part. Most of the members also perform solo / duo / other groups. You won’t see a bad show in any form from them.
Mooooom, I haven’t belonged to a wholesale club for quite a few years now. They’ve broken ground for a BJs behind Tar-jay. I’ll check them out when I need a big ticket item, which, living by myself, is the only way I really save money with them.
hippy, is that a Shoefly block? Whatever the name, you’ve done beautiful work on it.
Is it possible your homeowners insurance might help with replacing the fence since it is storm-related damage? Worth checking with your agent?
I went through storm damaged (wind and hail) roof this past spring~with some persistence on my part my homeowner’s policy paid for a lot of it, except for my deductible and some depreciation. It helped that I used a local roofing company with a track record and not a company that descended on the town after a storm. That company really went to bat for me. Sounds like you already have a fence company you have a good relationship with.
Then again maybe the insurance folks knew that if they weren’t fair and square with me I could sicc JtC on ‘em.
Here we go again.
Happy Thorsday!
I was exhausted yesterday and didn’t finish.
My son woke me at 12:45am to get him, and I didn’t get back to bed until 3:45.
Happy Hump Day!
No park today, Echo and Cerby are off at daycare.
I asked if Cerby could get a blood test including his thyroid.
My son called me at 12:45am to pick him up from irk. As I stood up, Cerby attacked Ripple again. I threw a quilt over Cerby in case he tried to attack me, then pinned him to the floor until I could grab his harness. I was stuck sitting bent over on the side of the bed for over a half hour, holding onto his harness to keep him away from Ripple. He was halfway under the bed where Ripple had gone to get away from him. Ripple fought back this time, and he was under the bed growling at Cerby.
Ripple finally went into the hallway; I said let’s go get ‘my son’ and he ran into the hall. I got Echo to go out, then I slid down to the foot of the bed holding onto Cerby until I was close to the door, ran out, and shut Cerby in the bedroom.
When we got home, my son went in before me and put a leash on Cerby and brought him outside. He ran right to me, all happy and excited to see me. After we came inside, he went to Ripple and started licking his face.
I have no idea what triggered the attack, other than the dogs got excited when we were going out the bedroom door. Usually, Ripple lazes in bed and takes his time.
When I went back to bed at 3:45, I took Ripple and Echo with me and closed the bedroom door.
I’m going to see what comes back with the blood work and go from there. Maybe his meds need adjusting.
I’ve always said there is something wrong with him. My son thinks he has PTSD from Niece2’s 4 boys. I think his brain is wired wrong.
The vet said to change up his Trazodone. I was giving him the minimum dosage; she suggested giving him the maximum.
The oncologist says Ripple should see the vet. I need to make an appointment for him.
I posted on FB to an Aussie board, and am getting all kinds of conflicting advice.
And some very nasty responses too.
Some people just make you sorry you asked for advice.
The vet forgot to refill the Trazodone. I’ll give him a Rimadyl which should make him sleepy. _________________________________________________________________________________
No dog park today. Too flippin cold and I am hurting from yesterday.
The vet is supposed to call me sometime today to give me all the test results. She threw in a couple additional tests, that I approved, to check out some other conditions that can cause aggression.
I’ve put out a few calls to behaviorists.
Once again today, Cerby is all kissy face with Ripple.
I don’t think the problem is Ripple having cancer. I know sometimes dogs will attack sick dogs, but if that were the case, it should have shown up a while back, and I think Cerby wouldn’t be getting kissy face with Ripple.
Thank y’all for listening, and your support.
It seems like it does happen to some dogs, for no apparent reason. I’ve known it to happen with cats too.
I had a Doberman I rescued a long time ago. Every six months he would attack me. I was a lot younger, and stronger, and had very quick reflexes, no big deal for me. I think he had to challenge my authority once in a while. He was also very friendly with visitors, until at some point he challenged them too. If you held your ground, he’d never do it again, if you let him get to you, he’d challenge you every time he saw you. Fortunately, all my friends were brave enough to ignore him. They also found out all you had to do was pull out a lighter and he’d leave you alone. I know he had been abused, he had burn marks from cigarettes all over his body when I got him. You didn’t even have to light the lighter, if you pulled it out, he was gone.
A lot of sick people in the world.
He hated pregnant women though, and I had to send him to stay with a friend when I got pregnant. He died shortly after my son was born, which was a relief for me. He was old and one day just laid down and died in his sleep. It was a blessing, because I knew I couldn’t keep him once my son started crawling.
My son has tomorrow off, so I ordered groceries to pick up today.
He may get laid off starting the 21st. I hope so, life is easier when he is around. Especially when it’s feeding/pill time.
I’m preparing a list of what needs to be done around the house.
He is not going to be happy.
And the vet never called, so I will call tomorrow.
I am so tired, but I need to stay up until 8 to give everybody their pills.
{{{Butters and Terri}}}
When I lived in the country, it was so dark I walked into my truck because I didn’t see it. Unless there was a full moon, then it was almost like daylight outside. One night my son’s father came in all excited and told me I had to go outside. I said why? He said you have to see this. I go out and he tells me to look up. I said yeah? And he said look, look at that.
Poor guy, it was the first time in his life that he had been outside in the country at night and he had no idea there were so many stars up there. I’m sad for people who never get to see it.
I’m glad Lager is doing well, and I hope all goes well for hubby too.
I’d know if I was missing part of my fence MetalMouse, I have three dogs who would yell FREEDOM as they ran out the door.
Poor Nandi Although I know it is very simple to neuter a cat. The operation itself takes about a minute. There was a vet at the barn where I kept my house and he would neuter all the barn cats on the tail gate of his truck. Catching the cat and waiting for the anesthesia to take effect was the longest part of the procedure.
Very nice work, Hippie.
I’m sorry you are all itchy again Nellie
I, too, am vertically challenged. My microwave is mounted over the stove and I have to stand on tip toe to get anything out of it. My son has to clean the inside of it because I can’t reach inside too far. I also have trouble reaching clothes in the bottom of the washing machine.
When my mother was looking into a senior place to live, one of the rules was that maintenance changes all light bulbs. I personally would love that. The hall light is at the top of the stairs, and I always worry when my son has to change that one. Standing on a ladder at the top of the stairs, I don’t want to watch. but I have to hold the ladder. Just in case, because I am big and strong enough to keep it from falling.
I’m sorry about your uncle Oooopsie
You wouldn’t want a crazy Aussie would you, Doggio?
Very scary story JtC Giant breeds are not usually vicious. Years ago, when I had a mastiff, I joined a group on AOL. One of the girls who posted there had a vicious mastiff, and everybody was telling her she needed to have him put down. That is a lot of dog to fight off. Great Pyrenees should be gentle giants too. My mastiff was very protective, but all he’d do was get between me and whatever threat he perceived.
The last time Cerby and Echo got into a squabble, my son and I decided that Cerby would never be left alone with anybody. Adam usually gives Cerby space, but we know now that when Adam is around to keep a closer eye on him and Cerby together. I’ve started leaving Ripple and Echo home when I take my son to irk. Three dogs are too much for me to handle. I’d love to leave Cerby home too, but that won’t happen.
He’s not too bad when I have only him, and I know for sure nobody will try anything with him around.
I’d eat green butter. Depending. If it were a light green yes, a dark green maybe not.
Good evening…Do I sound like Dracula?
I’ve read all, but things are just not stickin’ with me, currently.
I wish you all the best with this! Hopefully, a simple med change will help.
Thank you, all, for the kind words. So, there have been some changes. Deity help us all.
The cardio in Indy called, and said that the surgeon would do the open heart. Double bypass. As far as we know, anyway. It’s absolutely freaking me out, because his local cardio said that, nope, no open heart, because they’d never get his heart restarted. So, fuck. This one wants to do it. Said the experimental procedure isn’t all that good. This is his only option, I guess. So, that’s the first bit of news. Now, for the second bit of news…
I was talking to my husband on the phone (We’re both hands-free, by the way. No worries!), when he said for me to look up a number. He didn’t know who it was, so, he didn’t answer it. I looked it up. I knew it had to be bad news, as soon as I saw who it was.
It was the Safety Dept., for the company he works for. I told him, and we hung up, and called them back.
They told him that the cardio that saw on Monday (Who didn’t tell him a word about this, when he was there, face to face with him, leading to a great big pain in the ass today!), that he said that my husband is too ‘sick’ to drive a semi. So, they told him to pull over at the nearest fucking truckstop. So, he did. He’s somewhere in Pennsylvania, and under a load that has to be delivered,
I guess they’re sending someone to take over, and deliver the load. Then, the truck has to go to the terminal, where he can unload it. He’s got a shitload of stuff in there. TV, laptop, tablet, appliances of all sorts, clothes, bedclothes, canned goods, assorted frozen meals from home, etc., etc. I’ll be having to drive to the terminal to help him get everything unloaded. Of course, I have no idea when he’ll be getting back there.
I don’t know what we’ll do. He’s going to ask for his last remaining week of vacation to be paid to him, and he’s going to see if he can get the FMLA, and then, I guess we’ll see if he can get disability, or something. Maybe we can get foodstamps, and even Medicaid.
My former IT Guy (my ex) came to visit shortly after I moved to western Mitten State. He lives in the Dallas metroplex.
His reaction to all those STARS the first night … yeah, you don’t see the Milky Way when you live in a big city.
There was a meteor shower that night, and we drove out from even my lil’ town, out to the middle of nowhere, and lay together watching the sky. He was almost overwhelmed.
It is indeed yummy, specially when I use fresh chives. Seeing as how the only way to get really fresh chives is to grow them, there is a mess of them growing in the hobby room window.
I will happily make herb butter (and I make some pretty tasty stuff IMHO), I’m more than willing to mix chives in cream cheese. I will even make her red butter for Halloween. Green dairy products are just wrong and and I won’t do them. (I won’t even buy green cheese wax. Cheese wax is red. It always has been red and if I have my way, it always will be red.)
I hope Nandi has found a comfy place to sleep everything off by now. You did a Very Good Thing!
Beautiful work, your corners are amazing. Quality materials make all the difference in the world! I’m so glad you are enjoying your retirement so much!
There will be much whining and complaining if he just stays in from now on, but they get over it. All of ours have been strays until GG, so we did battle with them over going outside, but once they get used to it, they don’t even try to sneak out.
I have bad words for them too. Some people’s children just weren’t brought up right.
He also needs to apply for unemployment. He is “too sick” to drive a semi, but he is not too sick to work at a C-store, so he will be eligible for unemployment. (You can’t collect it if you are unable to work any job, but he just can’t drive professionally at this point. I’m not saying he needs to start looking for a job flipping hamburgers, just saying that he has paid into the system for a very long time, he deserves anything he can get now without cheating.)
FMLA won’t bring in any money, it basically protects his job while he isn’t able to work due to health issues. Unless his employer provides for short-term disability, you are kinda screwed on that end.
Get a piece of paper and a pen and start writing things down. Your mind is spinning around like a top right now because there is so much going on that you can’t settle on one issue long enough to think it through.
Also, get a third opinion if possible.
I get that reaction from folks who live in Phx. It is very sad
One of the many things hubs and I bump heads over is outside lights. I’m firmly in the camp of not making it easier for burglars to see to get to the windows and hubs wants the outside of the house as bright as the inside.
We have “compromised” and he gets to have the back porch light on at nights. At least it is under the porch roof.
Our window screens were starting to look a little shabby so we were already thinking about having them replaced when one started fraying. That means we must do something NOW because spring is upon us and we can’t trust the screens to hold cats in. Not that the cats would scratch them, but they do like to snooze on the windowsills and will lean into the screens if the windows are open. Fraying window screens won’t hold 18-20 lbs of cat.
The mobile screen guy was here with an estimate today. Ouch. It wouldn’t be so ouchie, but we want sliding screen doors to allow us to open the french doors when the weather is nice and doing that more than doubled the price. Getting old is expensive too, we had to replace the screens at our last place and we just took them off ourselves and took them to Ace. Now we are paying someone to climb the ladder and not bend the frames.
St. Pat’s day production starts tomorrow. Butter shamrocks, cream cheese and chive balls, mint yogurt (Not really cheese and not something I’m proud of. I also make pumpkin spice yogurt on demand. None of which count as cheese. They are more Chez-ish IMHO.) and herbed feta cubes in spiced olive oil.
By now, it’s clear that @Seanette and I are his main humans, but I do not think that we are his only humans. I have little doubt that when he’s not here with us, he’s visiting other people in other apartments, any of which would be as warm and dry as ours.
The timing of his outing today is rather unusual. He usually goes out in late evening or early morning, and he’s usually not gone nearly as long as he was today.
Excellent advice~all of it! Get a big notebook and write down what you remember. Dr’s name, dates he went to the dr, dates and locations of tests. Then take it with you to all future appts. Write down questions you have for the dr, write down their answers.
And whatever you do, sign up for the COBRA health insurance to continue. It’s expensive because you’ll have to pay all of it, but it’s still cheaper then paying for open heart surgery out of pocket and the last thing you want is for coverage to lapse and then the heart surgery won’t be covered because it is a pre-existing condition.
I’m so sorry it’s happening but I’m glad he has you and that you have us.
