When I lived with my ex (over a decade ago), we would go to Outback every Sunday. It was also a favorite of my mom’s. I don’t really miss eating there – though I’d happily go if someone else wanted to – but I have nostalgic feelings about that chain.
I am super unmotivated to work today: one of my direct reports keeps screwing up, plus yesterday I sent some instructions to the “all staff” distro and sooooo many people cannot read for comprehension (as a career tech writer/editor and communicator I know how to write instructions, and I even had another manager review the draft for clarity!). I have little natural patience with these kinds of things, and faking it – with both my employee and “reading isn’t fundamental” colleagues – is exhausting.
At least I have y’all.
Time for some lunch. It’s only 11:30-ish, which is early for me, but the cleaners come today: I never know exactly what time they’ll arrive but it’s usually around now, and I’d like to eat sooner rather than later.
JtC I really was happy that you explained your mumper handle and enjoyed the story very much!!! I can relate to Hubs card issue and am very glad that he got it back. Good advice to Nona. You generally give very good advice; that’s the wisdom gained through many years around the sun.
Thank you to Swampy, MetalMouse & doggio; we’re hanging in there.
Haven’t been able to catch up on all the posts but have to get ready to take Hubs to chemo now, I’ll go to the Fitness Center to work out while he’s there, it’s close. See you later.
As I remember being told, he had bumped his head on a Friday, had a fairly busy weekend, not thinking anything was wrong; they went to Los Angeles on a Monday, and later that evening, he suddenly fell very ill, and was rushed to the hospital where he fell into a coma from which he never recovered. Apparently, a blood vessel had ruptured in his brain, and had been bleeding the whole weekend, slowing crushing his brain to make way for the growing hematoma. By the time he got to the hospital, it was too late to do anything for him.
True; But since I’m not a Klingon, it shouldn’t be an issue…
Oopsie, Godbod, Outback used to be on my Sunday dining list, but their booths are so tight for a …large…gentleman like me plus I thought they were a bit over-priced, so I’ve dropped them for a time. Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse take care of my steak cravings. And yeah, comprehension is hard (see me and trying to get a fancy camera to operate right), but even I can follow clear and step-by-step directions…
Well, the HVAC guys showed up on-time and various thumps and knocking have been going on overhead. The guy in charge says they should be finished sometime today, we’ll see how that goes. It is motivating me to look into a new attic ladder, the one I have is wood and has been here since the house was built, so it’s a bit creaky, Home Depot and Loew’s both offer Aluminum ladders at pretty reasonable cost, just have to see what removal and installation would run me. Got my State refund today (wasn’t expecting it until April), so have a little extra cash.
Heading for the afternoon now…maybe do some more stuff around the house. We’ll see.
Got out of Costco just in time. The snow was just starting up as we walked out the door. Man that place exhausts me for some reason, but at least it’s only every few months that we feel we need to go there.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and achieved nappage so far today. Shrimpies were reasonable in price so shrimpies 'n grits and bacon wrapped sapre guts will comprise sup after all. YUM! It is a lot cooler today than yestiddy and breezy out, but ‘tis N.O.S. and the pollen is a little less today. I see day drinkin’ on the back porch in the near future.
MetalMouse we have discussed replacin’ the attic ladder with a metal one. Need to check into the cost of that.
GodBod glad sis and you had a good time and good food at Outback. We haven’t eaten there in a while ourselves. Might need to keep that in mind for one of these days.
Oopsie Instructions? We don’t need no stinkin’ instructions!
Hello, everyone. I’ve been busy with stuff too boring for even the MMP.
This morning the maintenance guy came to replace lightbulbs. It still seems weird that we’re supposed to call maintenance for such things, but we have 10’ ceilings, and even with my little stepladder, I can’t reach. I’m guessing there are people who’d try to balance on a chair on another chair and then sue. Anyway, while he was here, he reversed the dryer door, which I hadn’t complained about and didn’t even know was possible. Yay!
Yesterday I walked downtown and came upon a a sea of flashing lights: at least 4 fire engines, 2 ambulances, and 5 cop cars. Apparently one car had been weaving and speeding, and it hit another car, trapping the driver. Traffic was backed up for blocks in all directions. We got thunder and lightning, which is rare out here, so decided not to get zapped or do any rubbernecking and went home.
I’m heading out for a hair trim in a minute and then will head to the gym and the store.
Nona, I hope you get some reassuring news about the procedure. What you’re going through is understandable–Who wouldn’t feel anxious and apprehensive?–but sounds hellish. The Army of Mumperdom stands behind you, armed with…with…well, hugs and support, I guess. But we’re here.
sari, many years ago, my now-ex and I had a dog that turned on a dime like that. He’d snarl and snap without warning or noticeable cause. We kept giving him more chances, but after he went after a guest who merely walked past him, we re-homed him with a rancher. We probably should have had him put down. A vet tech later told me it sounded pathological. Cerby’s been lucky to have you, but you don’t need any more worries, and his behavior is worrisome.
MetalMouse, I always wake early when the alarm is set. I hate getting startled awake, so I think that’s why my brain rouses itself early.
My friend I went on the cruise with, Terri, who was my high school BFF, has lymphoma, in remission, but has been having internal bleeding. It’s been touch and go for weeks plus, she is the now on top of all that. She reported today that her nails are pinkish and she feels the internal bleeding is stopped or slowing enough that her tummy is no longer hurting and she was able to eat decent food. I have been virtually holding her hand through this. Her husband just died six months ago so she thinks she may have an ulcer. Please keep good vibes and prayers for Terri.
Ace Heart shit is scary but they can work wonders these days. Please be positive and I shall pray for both of youse.
Sari. You are an experienced doggie mom and you will do what’s best for everyone. Including Cerby. Hugs for you.
I went to the periodontist for a checkup this morning. He said the crown on my implant is a little loose. I have a sneaking suspicion that’s what was causing the inflammation/infection, and not my non-erupted wisdom tooth. Too late now. The feeling is slowly returning to my lip after the extraction in mid-December. Aside from the implant crown needing to be re-glued (or replaced with one set with a screw), a molar still needs a crown. My current dentists, and the dentist they’d bought the practice from, have been after me to get a crown for years. Also, I have a receding gum on one of my lower front incisors, and the periodontist says I need a graft. I’ve been told that for like 30 years. It’s ‘always’ been like that. I suppose I should get to it sometime. And finally, he wants me to have my teeth cleaned every three months. All my life I’ve been told that my mouth chemistry requires having my teeth cleaned at least three times per year. So little time, though!
sari, I hope things work out well with Cerby - how scary!
Today has been overwhelming. Work is lobbing yet more my way. Which is fine…well, fine-ish. Kind of. Also, I’m friendly with some people in a different org who told me things I have no business knowing, and keeping my mouth shut sucks.
In other, unrelated news, there are a LOT of downsides to having constant access to your kid’s grades. Overlyboy is in an honor’s class that occasionally has him miss school for offistes. The absences are excused, but the gradebook is updated as though he just didn’t bother to take a test. Kid’s got a big, fat F right now that will probably be corrected, but it still gives me the heebs when I get that push notification. I still have to ask him about it, but I’ve gotta turn those off. Thank the powers that be that the hubs doesn’t get those - he’d go ballistic.
I called the orthotist this morning to make sure they had what they needed for overlygirl’s brace. They said they should be good and had received a call almost immediately after the doctor’s office talked to me yesterday. I have used my Karen Powers for the good. I think so, anyway - I’m supposed to hear back from them once they put in the order, which should be the next day or two.
Not sure what’s for dinner tonight…I need to think that through. I chugged down a large green smoothie for lunch because I didn’t have time to eat between meetings. Maybe some zoodles and chili. Doesn’t sound particularly delicious, but I sure the heck don’t wanna cook.
We started 3 hours late this morning and most were dismissed at noon. I had work available, but was given the option. I decided to stick out the day.
Saturday, my SIL and I are going to a Highland festival in her county. My favorite local Celto-eclectic band is playing late in the afternoon, so we’ll get to see friends. My nephew has promised homemade Italian wedding soup for lunch.
Howdy Y’all! We have supped and cleanded up the kitchen. We had not eaten shrimpies 'n grits in a while, so it was like a treat. Sloth now continues.
Nellie yay for new lightbulbs and reversed dryer door. I assume reversin’ the door will make usin’ the dryer easier. Hope nobody was hurt too bad in the accident.
Butters Teri is in my prayers. Hope she keeps gettin’ better.
FlyBoy sounds like some fun dentist stuff in your possible near future. ICK!
talky hope the grade situation is resolved soonest. Yay for goin’ all Karen on the docs workin’ out for ya! Pizza is always an option. Just sayin’.
The trees have begun their annual orgy. I began to get a scratchy throat last evening and today was full blown itchy eyes, runny nose and sore throat. As much as I love living among a lot of trees, they do make for some issues in the spring and fall.
Hair is 1" shorter, workout has been worked out, and shopping is complete. Total of 8 miles walked. I am tired.
I did the math, and in the last year, I’ve walked about the same number of miles as from here to Belize. That counts treadmill miles, though. Here’s a trivia question for you: What famous 1960s folk rock tenor has walked across the US? Art Garfunkel. He did it in segments over time, though.
flyboy, do you really need the gum graft, then? It sounds painful and pricey.
red, hope you feel better soon. Stoopit allergies!
swampy, I tried to find out if anyone was injured in yesterday’s wreck, but no word. Also, yep, it’ll make it easier to move clothes from the washer to the dryer. Woo-hoo! 6.5 years, and it never occurred to me to ask.
wordy, the way it worked where I taught was that if a student didn’t make up a test/assignment within 48 hours of an excused absence, the system automatically converted it to a zero. It was a pain because I had to remember to manually override so athletes, for instance, wouldn’t get benched if the actually had more time to make up a test. It also panicked kids at the beginning of a term because missing one quiz out of three grades torpedoed their average. Computers are supposed to be our servants but are really our masters, it seems.
Every 15 seconds, I hear what sounds like The Hammer of Doom upstairs. I’m intrigued.
Evening all. HVAC’ers have left, the bill was higher than I thought (and had been written) but they had added a filter element I had agreed too, but they didn’t add it to the estimated costs, so I was a bit grumpy about that. Anyway, they have a couple minor things tomorrow afternoon to finish up and then empty out my garage of all the stuff that got pulled out, so if I’m going to get out it’ll be in the morning (have list for Wal-Mart already prepared).
Butters, sending nothing but positive waves Terri’s way.
Nellie, hope nobody was hurt in that accident. And do you have a top-n-bottom washer/ dryer, or side-by-side? Don’t think changing my doors would help any.
talkie, glad you got the Drs. office to perform for overlygirl.
flyboy, that sounds like some major work, might be worth consulting someone else?
Cookie, haven’t been in a Costco (or Sam’s Club) in many years, don’t need that much stuff to justify a membership.
OK, house is warming up again and dinner is just about all inside me, so some internettin’ and sloth are on the schedule. All y’all take care now.
Wordy I hear a lot of things in confidence and there are times when it is really hard to feign ignorance and/or keep quiet. Sometimes you just want to share or think someone else needs to know but it’s important to keep it zipped soas not to jeopardize trust. Great job on standing up for overlygirl! The most important thing on earth are your loved ones and your loved ones health.
We don’t have a Costco membership either. The only thing that we regularly get from Costco is a 3 lb bag of walnuts. So, either my friend or Hubs bud get it for us. Although we’re pretty low on cinnamon and the last one I bought was when I went to Costco with a different friend. I’m going to have to ask one of them to get a bottle for us.
Since it was a decent day, meaning very sunny/no clouds and low 40’s, I decided to go for a walk instead of the Fitness Center. There is a college and a university across from the hospital so after I dropped Hubs off, I parked at the uni and walked on the trail at the back of both that winds through the woods. It was good to get some fresh air and exercise; very peaceful. Am watching the first of the 13 Big Ten basketball games that comprise the Tourney. So, for the next 4 days, I’ll be glued to the tv. Wish I could have gone to the United Center but I don’t feel like can leave Hubs at this time. There’s always next year.
That is very scary, Sari. I know you will do what is best for everyone, but is there a way for you to keep Adam away from Cerby until things have been resolved. Oddly enough, this story popped up in the Pit about the same time you were posting your scary story.
Ace, can I suggest that you continue to cook like you did before life shit on you? Cooking can be very therapeutic, plus you were cooking meals ahead. I’m thinking that if you have something semi-good for you already cooked, you might eat that instead of whatever crap you just happen to come upon. Just one good meal a day will make a world of difference in your mental attitude. (I’m speaking from experience here.)
More positive thoughts heading your way.
Money good. Booze/weed better. What’s you gonna get?
I’m totally blushing now. Thank you, but it’s wisdom gained through making many mistakes.
I hope the chemo continues to go well, that is such a tricky balancing act.
NICE!
We didn’t know to think about which way the washer and dryer doors opened until the time we bought a dryer with a right handed door when we really needed a left handed one. Lesson learned, LOL!
That makes a whole bunch of sense because I also wake early when the alarm is set.
Will do, I hope she keeps improving!
Today was a surplus produce day. Last week it was snowing and the volunteers were so cold and I felt so bad for them that I went home and ordered a bunch of chemical handwarmers. I made a point to get handwarmers to both community centers in advance of the box handouts so the volunteers would have them at the beginning of the event.
It was lovely today. The only volunteer wearing gloves was the one who wears tight gloves year around. No scarves, no coats, no snowboots. Oh well, winter will come again, the handwarmers won’t go bad in the mean time.
We got apples, potatoes, small zucchinis, eggs and big bags of grated gouda cheese, so I think the eggs and grated cheese will become another crust less quiche, hubs likes having the leftovers for breakfast. We got a bunch of generic soda and a very rare box of baking soda. LWT gave us her box because she doesn’t have time to bake these days. They always get our sodas which is good because we don’t drink them.
MWT’s social security disability has finally kicked in so their financial situation isn’t nearly as dire. The twins will each get small checks every month and LWT will as long as she doesn’t work too much. (She has already shared that when MWT has a leg, she wants to go back to work full time and let him be the stay at home parent. He has shared that when he gets his leg, he’s going back to work full time so she can stay home with the twins. I have shared none of this with anyone but you guys because I don’t trust hubs to not forget he’s not supposed to say something about going back to work.)
Annnnnddd, I just watched a fireball strike across the sky. Way cool. We live out in the middle of nowhere for the dark skies, I just love being able to see that sort of thing on a regular basis.
