That was 1912, against his former VP, Taft, the Republican incumbant, and Wilson, the Democrat challenger (and winner of the election).
I suspect that this is a distorted recollection of the facts that 1)there was a president (Grover Cleveland) with two non-consecutive terms and 2)Nixon ran for president in 1960 and then came back to run again (winning this time) in 1968.

Really Not All That Bright:
Since most votes are already cast, perhaps I should say he already has.
It’s pretty obvious now that this election will set a record for turnout. High turnouts generally favor two candidates: a) the challenger- like Tucker Carlson (!) said, people don’t vote in record numbers for more of the same; and b) the Democratic candidate. (Old and wealthy people always have the time to vote; young and poor people only vote when they really care).
Plus, all the polls rely on “likely voters”; it doesn’t take into account the majority of likely anti-Bush voters- youngsters who will vote for the first time to get Bush out of office.
That’s my take, do with it as you please.
I’d say you’re a tad off base.
Man, is the OP’s name looking ironic under the thread title.

I voted for Kerry, and this *still *made me laugh.
Besides, all the exit polls show that Thomas Dewey is clearly going to win.
