I wouldn’t be too hasty. News is just now breaking that the Illinois ballots will be invalidated. Apparently some guy named Steve Bartman tried to vote and totally fucked-up the polling systems. Weird.
I thought that the whole “south to North Dakota” thing was handing that to you on a silver platter.
He means run
The rollercoaster begins
Breaking news from CNN.
CNN projects Bush wins in Indiana, Kentucky and Georgia, Kerry wins in Vermont.
I highly doubt that he would. The only President with two, non-consecutive terms was Grover Cleveland in the 19th century. The last President who lost his first bid and then won later was Nixon, who lost to Kennedy in 1960 and then won in 1968. As has been said for quite some time now, Bush is a polarizing figure. If Bush loses, I expect the Republicans to run someone more moderate for 2008, though you can never tell what party heads think.
If he loses as close an election as it seems it will be, it’s very likely. He’ll only be 62, and he’ll still have tremendous amounts of appeal to his base.
He’ll be seen as a loser, weak and unfit to live. The many issues that have been postponed until after the election will catch up with him. He will be eaten by his own.
Not necessarily…you know option #3 above.
-Joe, likes two of the three possiblities
That’s an optimistic thought, but I don’t buy it. He’s been successfull (or his team has) so far at deflecting blame onto someone else, or something else, or into thin air; I see no reason that couldn’t continue.
Is it just me, or has SimonX started channeling Hunter Thompson?
Sorry, we say ‘stand’ at this side of the pond for ‘run’. (is there a story behind that?)
Didn’t Nixon have two non-consecutive terms?
No. Nixon lost in 1960, then won his two terms in 1968 and 1972,
What, you think asterion was lying when he said only Cleveland was the only person ever to have two non-consecutive terms?
Anyway, no. Nixon was elected in 1968, and again in 1972, although he resigned before his second term was over.
I am not accusing another doper of lying in this case. Only of lack of knowledge. However, as I am in the wrong the accusation is withdrawn.
I had a vague reccolection that someone well-know had had two non-consecutive terms and that it was nixon.
Teddy Roosevelt took a good shot at a non consecutive third term but failed. (In 1916) Him, maybe? Does anybody outside the states even remember Teddy anymore?
As of right now (that that means anything), Bush has a 39-3 electoral vote lead.
Thirteen times the votes as Kerry! Just think of it!
Stay tuned for more meaningless mathmatics!
There’re some DOJ investigations involving the FBI and at least one or two grand juries that have yet to wrap up. (One has reportedly had the brakes applied by Mr Ashcroft.) There’s at least one Senate Select committe report that’s already been completed about Team Bush’s use of the pre-war intel re Iraq that’s being intentionally witheld until after the election season.
Anyway, Bush is DOOMED.
It’s the sound of Truth Beyond the Facts.
I, for one, welcome our new Canadian overlords.
That’s because he has the power of the entire executive branch to obfuscate for him now. Once he’s out of office, the power of the entire executive branch will be bent on investigating exactly what went on the last four years, Og willing.
Good points. Ok, I’ll buy it now.
