Well, since Shayna asked where all the LA dopers are, I am a (very new vintage) doper, and I live in the beach cities area. (About, oh, 5-10 miles from Redondo, where in fact my mother used to live before she went behind the Orange Curtain.)
But parties make me nauseous. Literally.
Still, I felt I ought to stand up and be counted. Put me on the list of ‘LA Dopers Who Rarely Stir from Their Homes.’
(I do wanna be on the email list, though. Perhaps sometime I will want to cruise by a Dopefest in stealth mode and find out what everyone looks like.)

Oh, and Shayna, keep in mind that my best friend (Psycho Kitten on the boards, though she rarely posts) and her boyfriend will be there, since they’re providing me and my brother with a means of transportation.
Those of you saying Redondo Beach is too far: Yeah right! I’m driving all the way from Monterey. While I wont be driving the full way I will be driving down to Santa Barbara, and I’ll be driving the rest of the way with Pat.
In fact the farthest i’ve driven for a dopefest is from Monterey to Santa Rosa, which took me about 4 hrs (including slowdowns north of Marin). Realistically it would have been three. So unless Redondo Beach is that far from you, you have NO excuse :D.

Sounds like this could be really fun and interesting. I’ve read the “bios.” on those that show one. Quite a mixed group.
I’m afraid to respond to this, since I’ve had so many misfortunes trying to get to recent Dopefests. I will try every way I can to be there, though!
OK, fine, twist my arm…
I do have to check the dates Strainger said he’d be in San Diego (I believe it was around that time), 'cause he wanted to see if any Dopers wanted to get together, but I seem to recall he’d be in during the week, so I’m sure Saturday won’t be a problem. Plus one of my best friends lives in Redondo Beach, so I can crash and visit with him as well.
Gay pride weekend? Bleh. Haven’t done one of those in years - they bore me, and I guess I’m just getting old. I have been, however, suckered into helping with the costumes on the Long Yang Club’s float at San Diego pride. I mean, really - what would I know about getting clothes off and onto Asian boys?
And, Doob, maybe this’ll alleviate some of the pain I feel at the possibility of missing the NoCal/SoCal fest.

Done and done - Strainger will only be in town for two days earlier that week, so it looks like I’ll be attending two Dopefests in one week. If any other San Diego Dopers read this, get in touch with me if you’re interested in hanging out.

Look it up on http://www.mapquest.com and you can get both a map and a color aerial photo. You can zoom in on the photo to the point where you can see cars and people. (They look like ants!)
First off, as for the time, I was thinking of early evening, say, around 7:00, if that’s ok with everyone. If anyone wants to get together earlier and hang out at Chillers for a few drinks, that’d be cool. It’s just a short walk from there to the pier for dinner (and Chillers is usually a hoppin’ “after-the-beach” hang out, sometimes with live music on the deck outside - not good for dinner though. Might require ID, I’d have to check.)

As for directions, I hate the convoluted way that mapquest tells you to get here. If you’re coming south on the 405 fwy, I’d exit Rosecrans and turn right. Go through one or two lights (can’t remember off the top of my head, but it’s not far) and turn left on Aviation. Take that until it dead ends at Pacific Coast Highway (you’ll see the Rocky Cola Cafe right in front of you) and turn left on PCH. Go a couple of miles to Torrance Blvd., turn right and you’re at the pier. So basically…
405 South
to Rosecrans, turn right
to Aviation, turn left
to PCH, turn left
to Torrance Blvd, turn right.
If you’re coming north on the 405, exit the 110 fwy South to Torrance Blvd. Then just stay on Torrance for about 6 miles (??) until it dead ends at the pier.
It’s really very easy to find (I think).
I’m so excited that so many people can make it. Wish some of the others could, too, but maybe next time!

I think 7:00 pm is just peachy. I don’t exactly mind where we meet up, I’m easy. 
El Torito seems fine to me. 7 o’clock is great too.
