Two weeks left of summer - has Cousin, a teacher, quite freaked. around this time of year, she starts talking about time machines and going back to late June.
Summer was always too short when I was in school - now it seems too long - I cannot wait for the crisp Autumn breezes. I think my cat has had it with this heat & humidity, too.
My favorite season has always been Autumn - maybe because I was born in Autumn - maybe because, most years, I actually looked forward to the start of school. Maybe because it’s so colorful.
Spring comes in a close second - Winter and Summer tie for last place.
Most of my teen summers were spent working for the park district - on the plus side - I was outside, getting sun. On the minus side, I was outside in the humidity. One of my park district jobs was sweeping the leaves and branches off the paths and trails. It’s a park, fercryinoutloud. It’s supposed to have leaves and branches everywhere. A few summers I was a kiddie pool “life guard”. No specialized training involved - we could walk into the 18" deep pool and lift a struggling kid out the water - there were experienced first aid folk on hand - but mostly we watched to make sure the kids didn’t leave us any “presents”
For this, I was paid only slightly more than minimum - and all I could think about was tossing the Park T-Shirt in the laundry for the last time that season and putting on real clothes.
Guess What? I’ve bnen drknini’. Gasp you say! Not you of all people swampy!
Well, it’s true! And, plus also, since for reasons unknown to everybody in the universe everywhere, rumor has it I was supposed to start the MMP even though I have no idea where that came from, I feel guiltily obligated to do so, here it is.
Have I mentioned I’ve bnen drknn’? Well, I have. Bite my big ol’ bear hiney! So There!
That ain’t good enough? Ok. Wanna know what’s on my 'puter desk? Really? Y’all do? Well…
There’s two staplers, a tape dispenser, a little jar thingy that holds pens and pencils, a memo note thingy with ducks on it that has a little ducky paperweight, a magnyfing glass in the shape of a turtle that is one of my prize possesions cause my sis bought it for me from the gift shop at the aquarium in Etlanner (it was the tackiest thing she found in the gift shop, so natch she thought of me I love my sissie!) a tv remote, a threepack of “c” batteries (no, I don’t exactly know why, ‘cept the flashlight I keep in the study uses "c"batteries, so maybe I do know why), my fancy new modem that I’m told from the att person who finally did show up to fix my modem problem from a few weeks back is the same kind they give to offices so is supposed to be super duper (it works, that’s all I care), an ATT prepaid calling card that has 120 prepaid minutes of which there are still 95 minutes of callin’ time on that came from a previous job and is good apparently forever, a phone book, a church directory, some coupons from Ryan’s Steakhouse, DQ, and the local all you can eat hog trough buffet, a 2009 desk calendar that has Norman Rockwell productions on it, a piece of peppermint candy, a landline phone, an ashtray which is now and has always been used as a coaster, cause even before I gave up smokin’ I never smoked in da cave, but it’s cool cause it’s crystal, two cds of bluegrass music a cousin sent me which for reasons unknown reside on top of my desk instead of in the place inside said desk other cds reside, a rolodex, oh and another calendar from “Better Homes and Gardens” magazine which for some inexplicable reason the BHaG folks felt the need to send to me even though I have never, ever even considered subscribin’ to their magazine. Plus, other stuff I don’t feel like listin’.
Ok, here’s the MMP. Hijack away Y’all!
Just cause I can… FIRST! HEE!
ETA: Interestin’ OP BioRosie. My first job with real wages out side of cuttin’ grass was at a Hardee’s fast food restaurant. I hated it. That is all.
Oh and since yours is first, I asked that mine be closed.
Second!
I always prefered Autum, anyways. Hockey, Football, Christmas.
Summer job memory: Spending the day alternating between stocking the frozen food freezer(-5 degrees) and collecting carts in the parking lot(105 degrees).
Firsat! I’ve had a few, myself.
I’ve just asked the mods to combine the two - should be done by daylight
Ummmmmmmmm… doggio I may be dkrun, but even I know Christmas is a Winter holiday.
Heh! I asked the mods to close mine. Should be fun!
but your post needs to be read by all those still asleep - tell the mods you changed your mind
And may I be the first to say I am shocked, shocked I say to learn doggio is known to imbibe!
I have Chrsitmas stuff up im y store, therefore it is a Winter/Fall/summer holiday.
Heck, I’m drkun… how convincin’ could I be!
Well heck, if you’re going by that - Christmas is a June holiday - yeah, I said it.
I forget, y’all celebrate Hallowe’en in March.
So this is tag-team MMP? it’ll be interesting to see what developes
how many MMPs can we juggle at once?
Right now I have pool toys, Halloween, back to school, Thanksgiving and Christmas displayed. No wonder I drink.
AT least two, wouldn’t you say?
ETA: Now to go bump the other one.
Nooooo!! ::banging fist on table::
More summer!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE summer. I would love to have summer all year 'round. I love the heat. I love the longer days. I love the sun. And I LOVE the beautiful summer fruits. . . .juicy, ripe peaches with sweet nectar that runs down your chin. . . sweet strawberries, soft and wonderful. . .sweet summer corn. Summer is what makes life worth living.
I’m already dreading any form of winter.
::chanting::
More summer, more summer!!
I like Autumn because I prefer the cool, and there’s fewer bugs (or so it seems).
Velociraptor goes to school soon, he’s all excited for that and I’m hoping that keeps up.
Tonight I’m sore and tired, too much walking (shopping) and gardening today. We moved in here at the end of June and I haven’t really touched the garden area yet as whoever lived here last let it go (horribly). I just weeded out the front area and pulled out the huge, ugly, half dead leafy things with no flowers and then hit the back a little also.
So here’s a couple questions for anyone who might know stuff about gardens as a result of my adventures today.
First, what is this (sorry for the blurry picture). BFF says it has huge flowers on it when it blooms, kinda like mums (I’m guessing in fall because it’s still not blooming). I probably should have taken a bigger picture. They’re about two and a half to three feet tall and have large leaves on them. I’ll see about getting a pic of the leaves tomorrow from the ones I dug out if that will help identification. Second question also pertains to this… it had bugs on it. Tiny little black bugs that looked akin to spiders but only had 6 legs, not 8 (and thus aren’t spiders). I tried to take a picture but it turned out even worse than this one, it looked like loads of black specks/seeds in the picture. Any clue?
Third question is, anyone know what this pretty flower is? This is growing along the back fence in a shady area, and there’s several of them. I’m quite taken with them and would like to know what they are.
I also have raspberry bushes starting to grow back (last people who rented tried to get rid of them) and I want to keep them but there are some sprouting up in the middle of the lawn where I do not want them. What should I do about those?
Heffa the corn hasn’t hit our farmer’s markets yet. It’s late this year, because of the crazy weather we’ve been having but I want some nummy Taber peaches and cream corn so bad…
