Good group and none of the usual play money "all in " types. Bragging rights are very important here.

MentalGuy, Somehow the time between Blind Increases changed from 5 minutes to 8 minutes for tonights game. The game lasted well after 11 pm CT.

I checked next weeks game and it is back at 5 minutes, which thankfully should get us done before Dec 21, the Mayan Doomsday.

Just wondering if you did something to the game that might have changed the blind time intervals.

(I didn’t even know 8 minutes was an option)

It seemed like the blinds were on schedule at the beginning of the game, but I couldn’t swear to it.

That was a lot of fun last night. Looking forward to next week.

Root has a commanding lead, but the Meeker may challenge with a win in the last week of this quarter.

I would like to point out that two weeks ago, when I appeared in the standings, some of you said “oh, now you’re just going to sit out the rest of the quarter and not risk losing first place”, or words to that effect. But I didn’t do that; I’ve continued to play ever since.

Sounds like I’ll need to play next week, you know, just to maintain world peace.

Anyone want to here about Mensa’s Xmas Poker Big Adventure at Tunica? Tough I am going to tell you anyways, because I want to brag!

Left home Friday Morning at 10:30 am for the three hour trip to Tunica. Checked in Bally’s Hotel for ~$30 a night. I could have stayed Horseshoe or Harrahs for $60 with poker rate, but since all I was doing was sleeping, all I needed was a bed and a bathroom. And trust me, $30 was all it was worth. Definitely no Frills Hotel.

Go to Gold Strike to play the 2 pm Satellite for $80 + + ($100 total) to get into $750 Main Event of the Winter Poker Classic. Blinds a 25/50 and I am the BB. Action folds to SM and he overbets pot $450. I looked at my cards and see pocket deuces. I fold.

I got sh** for cards on the 1st orbit and fold every time. Next hand, I am BB again at 25/50 and one guy calls, and again the SB bets 450. This time I get AKs and I reraise to $1100, and he shoves All-in. After some thought, I call. He has pocket kings and Big Bang Boom, there goes my $100 buy in and my shot to play in a $750 poker tournament.

On to Horseshoe. They got a Friday tournament for $100 at 6 pm. I sit down at a 4/8 game to pass the time. I am basically treading water for about the first hour or so on a $100 buy-in. Then I start to bleed a little bit. I am trying to stick around until 5 pm because they are having a promotional drawing (I had a couple of tickets because of flushes I had).

About 4:30, I am down to $25 in chips and I put an extra $20 behind my stack. I get dealt KK and I raise on every street. And fortunately I win (while betting on every street) on a pretty dry board. (other guy had top pair and inside straight draw). Ok, I am back up to $80. Next hand, I get dealt QJ clubs. Limped pot, with 5 players. Flop is AQ3, two clubs. One guys raises, another guy calls, I re-raise, original raiser calls, and the other guy folds. King clubs on the turn. I got the nut flush. He bets, I raise, he raises back, I raise back, he raises again, I can’t raise back. I am thinking he has trip Kings (or possibly Aces).

River does not pair, and with the nut flush. He bets again, I raise, He raises back, I raise, and at this point he is All-in. I show the nut flush and he mucks. All of sudden I have about $200 chips and $80 ahead. We play a few more hands until 5 pm for the drawing and I am winning $100. I quit playing after the drawing and buy in into tournament and get a comp for the snack bar for a sandwich, drive back to hotel and take shuttle back to Horseshoe (because I am probably going to be drinking)

Nothing eventful in the 6 pm tournament. 30 players entered. I am absolutely card dead and when I finally get a decent hand (A/K again, unsuited) I go all in under the gun (with about 10 BB), get two callers and lose to a pair of Tens.

I go play some table games (paigow, blackjack) and then some cash game poker, until midnight. Drinking beer and finishing up with some Crown. Take Shuttle back to Hotel

Another tournament at 11 am at Harrahs. $160 buy in. 20000 chips. Doing my best Phil Hellmuth impression, I arrive fashionably late (on purpose) and get a seat, I got to wait until I am the BB and the button just went by my seat. Watching the table, it is extremely aggressive. I plan to play tight, and my cards are forcing me play tight. I am getting CRAP. I have never seen so many 8/3 9/4 J/2 offsuits. I fold about 30 hands in a row.

I finally get A/J in the BB, and I call a 3x BB raiser pre flop (with one other caller). I ended up rivering a Jack to win a small pot which gets back to my original stack at the first break at 1 pm which is the latest time for late entries and rebuys.

I get more crap after the break. I haven’t seen one pair, or a premium ace or even two face cards. Fold another 25 or so hands in a row. Finally get A/J and I raise 3x BB UTG, and everyone folds. another small pot. I am behind my original stack but still have about 23 BB as the blinds were 50/300/600 going into the next break.

There were 126 entries (including rebuys) and $16000 in the tournament pool.

More crap and more crap. I am slowing getting getting anted and blinded. Finally I get dealt pocket nines and (flopping a Nine) win a pretty decent pot to get to 20K. And then more crap and then more crap. I am small blind and chip bully raise 5x BB, I reraise all in with ATs and he calls with pockets Queens (sigh). I spike an ace on the flop and win the pot. I got some chips! a few hands later I flopped a set of fives and win a decent pot.

My table breaks (finally) and we are down to 70 players and I am above chip average after only playing about 5 hands in 4 hours.

I start getting some cards on a table that is playing much tighter. I start getting some cards and I loosen up my game, and I am chipping up with some small pots. I am at 120K in chips by the time this table breaks at 40 players. About 2x avg chip stack.

Antes/Blinds are 500/2000/4000 at this time and I realize that it is shit or get off the pot time for the smaller stacks. A lot of players at the 40k-50k are going to have to do something. One of those guys went all in with me in the BB and I have AQ. I call, and he has pocket kings. Ouch. Now I am down to average stack.

I am starting to bleed chips again and then I double up two times in a row!! I am back up to 160k!! Table breaks again as we are down to 30. Twice the chip average. I am moved to the guy that has the chip lead (to his left fortunately). Blinds are 1k/4k/8k. and he is chip bully. He is raising just about every pot. I decide to make a stand with pocket tens after he raised my BB to 40K. I go Shove Allin. He doesn’t call.

I tread water for awhile. Blinds are up to 2k/10k/20k Players are dropping like flies and another table breaks. We are down to 20 players (tournament pays 13 places). I bust a very small stacked player when I wake up with pocket aces (and I end up making Quad Aces!) and then another small stack player with A/J. Then I double another small stack player. Its bubble time.

I make the bubble easily because I am getting no cards to play. Antes and blinds are really starting to get big. We get to the final table (9 players) and I am at 200k, shorter than avg stack but in 6th place. There is some chop talk but the big stacks are not wanting to chop (don’t blame them). Te guy in 7th place of the shorter stacks gets on a heater and doubles up plus two times in a row. He busts the shortest stack and makes a dent in two of the bigger stacks. I got pockets eights in the BB one of those hands after he goes all in and the short stack calls and big stack calls. (Best Fold I made all game!)

I am 7th out 8 players at this time. The guy in last place now gets on a heater and doubles up two times in a row and then wins a huge pot. I win the blinds/antes when I raise all in and no one calls. I am still in last place and out last players in 5th, 6th, 7th bust out.

Blinds are 5k/15k/30k and I got 200k. Severely short stack, and the other players each have over 2 million chips. More chop talk based on chips. I tell them I am not interested in that. There is about $11,300 in the pool. Chip leader offers to take $2500 (~equivalent to 2nd place) and the rest of split the rest. Everyone agees. I get $2200 and happy as a clam!

Its about 7 pm at this time. I tip the dealers $50 (like everyone else did), I pocket the two grand and take the rest to the crap table to go big or go home. I ended up making $150 extra at the crap table and then go home!

Mensa’s XMAS Poker Big Adventure!

Excellent news, nfm, and congrats. Beats any of my IRL poker stories hands down.

Congrats. No way I would remember all those details.

Thanks guys, I was taking notes while I was folding nearly every hand.:dubious: When you only about 8 hands in the first 2.5 hr, you have to find something to do.

Does anyone have information on this? How far out is the US app?

Suffice to say having this would help me a lot.
