My thread is loaded with letters that are at least as steamy as yours, and some that are fairly explicit. Just keep saying “First Amendment” and spit in their eye.

Now, this is just a few threads with sexually explicit material, and two of them made threadspotting. Now, I don’t mind you asking Anth to tone it down, but let’s try to be a lil bit even, shall we? Una’s story is tasteful, and very well done. The last thing the other thread’s can be considered is tasteful.
Before anybody jumps on my ass with “It’s their house, they make the rules”, well, I understand that. I just wanted to point out other threads that should be “toned down” a bit.

This was a thread where a poster was asking about various terms in the newspaper. This is a question that has a factual answer - which is what the Straight Dope is all about.

This one is people making up sexual practices. I will grant that some of them are outside the bounds of good taste, but the sheer outrageousness makes them unbelievable. Also it’s in the BBQ pit which has a little more leeway than other fora.

That thread was clinically descriptive, and again I don’t remember seeing anything as explicit as in the OP here. The reason the thread was moved to MPSIMS was not because the posts contravened board guidelines, but because there was no debate or opinions being asked.

That again was more of a “debate” or an “asking your opinion” thread, which in my mind is appropriate to the SDMB.

Compare a post in any of those threads to the following lines from the original post in this thread: the paragraph starting with “Holly’s hand began to rub higher along Amy’s thighs…”

I’ve read many posts in my day at the SDMB, and in my opinion this thread is in a different vein than all the others you’ve mentioned. It is deliberately meant to arouse the reader. None of the other threads you mention had that purpose. One could argue that because it is erotic it doesn’t deserve to be censured, but the problem is, if this thread is allowed to go without comment, at what point will a comment be justified? For better or for worse, the USA is a society in which pornography is deemed not appropriate for all audiences, and something that the government is justified in censoring.

I’m not “warning the thread.” I’m asking the group as a whole; it just happenes to be this thread that I’m asking it in. I don’t think I have to post it in every single thread that makes us a bit worried. Note that I haven’t either closed this thread or deleted it completely. But there is a line that we know we’re going to have to draw. We haven’t gotten there yet. I’m just asking nicely, please don’t let us get to that point.

Thank you very much for the polite warning. I understand and agree with you. This board is not meant to turn into alt.sex.stories, and although most stories that members might post may be relatively tasteful and harmless, allowing widespread posting of erotica could lead to a situation where the moderators must actively act as both reviewers and censors - thus adding even more work to your already busy jobs. That was not my intent at all, and I did not think my story was good enough it would attract so much attention. In fact I thought it might open me to several flames about my silliness.

I also thank you for giving the story a little chance and not closing it or deleting it yet.

I do, however, agree with pepperlandgirl’s comments, and also respectfully contend that there are also some seriously sick and disgusting topics which are allowed to be openly discussed here regularly. “Munging” comes to mind as one which - well, better not to even think about it. But I do understand the difference also between a board which has occasional disturbing posts, and a sex story board. This board is not the latter one.

But that is not important, as it’s entirely the board administration’s call, and I respect and obey. But one thing did disappoint me about both yours and Arnold’s posts: you didn’t say whether you liked the story or not! :slight_smile:
