Hi Dots! Our spring has yet to arrive. My consolation is that when it does show up, it will do it really quick, in a week’s time. My oh my, I would not like dust storms, as I am both asthmatic and allergic to dust, I don’t know how you do it. I’ll take my zero visibility due to fog or snow, thank you very much! Poor HRH, got bit by the snot monster, give her extra hugs from me. And that photo is the epitome of a Royal Look, so cute.
Yeah beebs, it’s very sad. My intuition must have been kicking in, as I looked in that thread just about the time that Tim said that David actually passed.
It’s so quiet here, with The Son and #3 gone, skiffman is watching television in another room, and here I am, in the darkened living room, listening to Jerry Jeff Walker. (I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight is playing right now, so mournful) The dogs and cats are curled up for the night, is this what it’s going to be like when the kids are all gone? I don’t know that I would like this on a long term basis.
While I was cleaning earlier I found my silver bear! He has been lost for a long time, I am very happy to have found him. He has a brother, a silver giraffe. I inherited a collection of giraffes from a beau in the autumn of 1995, and I have a bedtime story to tell before I say goodnight.
In 1995 skiffman and I were divorced, and had been estranged for a couple of years prior. I had been seeing a very sweet guy, more than a bit older than I, but we were beginning to make plans of making the relationship more serious. During the autumn he had begun to behave a bit erratically, and we had some talks in which he alluded to having some health issues, but he held back with regard to the details. To make a very long and complicated story shorter, he took his own life. He had already lost a lung to cancer, and it was back with a vengeance and he refused to go through the hospital rigmarole again. I was devastated by his death, I had never really experienced that depth of grief before. Time passed.
I went to the store many months later, and on the list was tea. I like to buy the Red Rose brand because my gramma always did, and gave me the little porcelain animals which came with every box. Well, when I got to the tea aisle and looked, Red Rose tea had stopped the little porcelain animal freebie, but I searched all the way to the back of the shelf, and there was one box with an animal in it. So I tossed it in my basket and finished shopping. Back at home, with the groceries put away, the kids fed and in bed, I decided to have a cup of tea and see which animal I got this time. I opened the box, and there was…
well, you know it was a little porcelain giraffe, don’tcha?
G’night.
Blech.
That dust sounds very unpleasant, Dotty. Hope HRH feels better soon. That picture of her is so cheerful!
Cool giraffe story, kai.
I’m not sure why I’m awake already. Doesn’t seem to be raining, so I think I may go out an garden for a bit.
Hugs for Pie, of course.
GT
CutiePie I hope that was just a general blech and not you pukin’ on your keyboard. Anyways, feel better.
kai there be girl bears and boy bears. I guess it’s just supposed to be that way.
Oh, and if it’s a special treasure in your heart, then it’s worth keepin’. Yeah, I know… that helped a lot.
rigs I expect that paper to get finished today, young lady! You have no reason not to buckle down and get it done. None. Now, march right in there and get busy! It won’t write itself you know. Oh, and garlic does to belong in baked beens. Rebo said so! So There!
Up and caffienatin’ here. It could rain today. Or not. We seem to be havin’ a lot of cloudy mornin’s as of late so it’s hard to tell. I wish it would.
beebs I saw that thread about David Simmons when I opened up MPSIMS. Sigh I’m gonna miss that man. He told some great stories and had some wonderful insights to share with us.
Ok, more caffiene is needed. Must go find.
Later Y’all!
I’m better now thanks. Almost needed a pukey smiley, but not quite.
However, remember how I said that I was coming to TVLand because of the hamfest? Now we’re not going. :smack:
Back to bed I was up way too early.
**kai ** - just a thought about the kids’ treasures - maybe they’d like them back? That way, you’d clear out your dustmagnets and they’d get a stroll down memory lane. Oh, and my house is only partly brick - around the front and the garage. The rest is icky white aluminum siding. It’s on the list to be replaced with something less icky. Someday…
**gt ** - I’ll take Monday the 28th. I’ll be in Orlando just starting my insane week so I should be able to toss something together and get the thread started.
**Dotty ** - that’s one of the cutest pics you’ve posted yet.
**rigs ** - the scarf running down her arm is just too, um, bizarro. Who stretches a scarf down the arm??
**tarra ** - I see some lilacs around here that are absolutely massive and gorgeous! I am so envious. Of course, they’re probably older than I am, but still, they’re beautimous.
Everybody else, I’m not ignoring you, I’m just getting dizzy scrolling back and forth.
We got our thunderstorm last night, and it’s continued to rain on and off, so yay! I hope my plants are doing their rooty happy dance!
I slept well, despite an extremely strange dream which I won’t share because it’d require too much explanation. Just trust that it was mega-weird.
I need to empty the dishwasher, have some breakfast, then start mixing meatballs. Wait - I should probably double check that I have all the components before I start assembling, just in case I need to run to McKay’s. And right off the top, I see I need evaporated milk and more brown sugar, since I’m almost out. And I see it’ll take less time to bake than the recipe shows, because it calls for 1 1/2" balls, and I’m making maybe half that size.
I also know I need pineapple for the teriyaki chickie chunks. And while I’m at the store, I probably need something chocolate.
It’s gonna be a fun, busy day, not quite as painful as yesterday was. I may even toss some clothes into the washer. Oh yes, I may…
Admit it, you wish you had my life.
Poor HRH. Hope she’s better soon. And poor Pie.
Haze, I really like the top, and I don’t like pink either.
Congratulations to everyone who worked hard yesterday!
up and off to work again.
Poor doggio…
You need a SugarMama so you don’t have to work so much.
Back up from my nap. The next door neighbors are installing a fence for their doggies because one of them got loose the other day. So they’re out there with the loud booming music and a chainsaw. It’s ok, though, I may bug out early because my local best friend is having an open house and she would be really, really surprised if I showed up.* Actually, she’d be even more surprised if I showed up with my Baked Potato Salad and I just happen to have about 1/2 gallon left at my shop. It’s one of her favorite foods. As a matter of fact, she had me serve it at her wedding reception.
Oh, and {{{beebs}}} just because.
*Note: This is a PartyLite open house so I’m not actually required to show up. I’ve got candles coming out of my ears.
Yep–that author is the Late 80s incarnate. Ugh. I truly wouldn’t mind the scarf if it were a silk one (not my style, but at least it’s a style)–this one looks like wool and it’s designed for cold days…
I am up after a night of incredible and vivid dreams, but good ones. I always figure if the dreams were memorable, it must have been a good workout for the brain. I have gardening to do today and the Paper which I will finish. Tomorrow is the MMP and the grocery store for me. Rapture.
I’m sorry to hear of David Simmon’s passing.
Kai-nice story. Isn’t Rose Red the tea with the fortunes on the tags?
**FCM **and other lilac lovers: I have 4 lilac bushes in my front and side yards–each a different shade (one of them is white). I love May for the lilacs alone. I believe there is a Korean lilac on the market that is low growing and doesn’t get sprawly. I’m not sure of the growing zone, but it might be worth a looksee. I think it’s called Korean lilac.
Morning all. The weather is threatening, grey, and gloomy, so I’ve put on a violently pink t-shirt (not the same shade as Haze’s, plus not the same cute style, plus I’m old and flabby as opposed to her young and adorable) in an attempt to bring some cheer into my life. Hasn’t worked thus far, but YNK.
I really need to get my behind in gear; I stayed in bed too late this morning, and then spent a while futzing around with the printer, first installing it on the laptop and then helping Papa Tigs try to figure out why it’s not printing even though it’s on the network, and by the time I finished all that my coffee was nearly cold. So I need some hot coffee to open the ol’ eyes, and then I’ll read and see what you all had to say. So in/appropriate greetings to all, and I’m off to be constructive for a bit.
Good morning all; I was up earlier, but went back to sleep–I’m caffeinating now.
Thanks again for the continued good thoughts for my brother. He’ll need them, I suspect. Kai, you do understand! I have some of those little figures too, btw, including one of the giraffes.
I am soooo envious of you, FCM for being able to enjoy those blooming lilacs, even if they aren’t yours. Definitely my favorite flowering shrub. And Rigs, I love em in all shades, so am even more envious of you!
I’m getting ready to fix a little brunch (it’s a bit late for brekkie, so brunch it is!); the potatoes are finished cooking now I gotta cook the sausage links. YUM!
Whew - making meatballs is a challenge, especially when your biggest mixing bowl is not quite big enough. Everything fit, but it didn’t leave a lot of space for mixing. But I did it, and I rolled somewhere around 175 or more. I felt like I’d have liked more of the sauce, but I can mix another batch to dump over them when we serve it, so that’s not a big issue. They’re in the oven now, and the house is starting to smell yum.
I’ve got a load in the washer and I’m taking a break before taking on the chicken. In fact, I won’t even start the chicken till the meatballs are done and packaged (bagged) and in the freezer. Which means I need to make space in the garage freezer by moving stuff into the kitchen freezer. I need to make sure all the wedding food is in one place so when I pack the cooler on Saturday morning, I’ll know I have it all.
I should probably make a couple of checklists…
Whew.
Well, that was unexpected. One of the pans in the oven warped just enough to spill sauce on the lower element. Nothing like stinky burnt BBQ sauce in a closed house. Stoopit pan.
weird dream - can’t remember most of it - part of it was cousin and I were upgraded to a better hotel room on one of our trips and the room was this amazing place with couches and a wet bar and computer terminals and big comfy pillows all over the place and a sound system and one tiny bathroom with no actual seat, just a hole to stand over…
my “gotta go to the bathroom” dreams are getting weirder and weirder.
Guess I’m not going to the open house. But somehow I got roped into buying $10 worth of stuff over the phone.
I have a headache and feel like puking. I guess I’m just waiting for TVMan to quit playing with Works Bombs in the backyard and maybe we’ll go get lunch and go grocery shopping.
We’re getting ready to go out to brekkie. We’re going to try a new place that is supposed to be “Da Bomb”. We shall see.
Other plans for today call for grocery shopping and some cleaning up around the house.
Yesterday’s workout was three hours long. The workout results were wrecked because we stopped at Jamba Juice on the way home. I had one of their “low-cal” drinks, but all the same, I felt really guilty.
I was a good girl though and cooked dinner utilizing one of the weight watcher’s recipes.
Hugs to **tarra ** and her brother.
Haze, the shirt is cute, but I don’t think I could wear coral. I like the cut.
It was snowing gangbusters here yesterday morning. It snowed for about four hours and the ground was actually starting to turn white. It finally quit and melted away.
Ya know, usually by now I’ve worn shorts and a tank top with sandals. I haven’t put on sandals yet. I’m really, really sick of the cold and wish extended sun and warmth would arrive.
Wow, my tummy just rumbled. I guess I’m hungrier than I thought.
I had a lilac bush at my first home. The problem was that the previous dummy owners had planted it right next to the house, right up under the eaves. I finally had to tear the bush out because it was just getting too big. It was shame because I did enjoy the blooms and the scent.
Off to breakfast now!
Well, crap. If you might have been thinking of making the meatballs from the recipe I linked to, I offer some advice - first, bake them plain, not covered in sauce. Second, cut the time in half, then check them - I ended up with a pan and a half stuck in the sauce and burnt. Crap. Finally, while the meat is baking, put the sauce in a crockpot to start warming up, then add the meatballs, mix, and let it finish cooking up like that.
I managed to salvage most of the burnt ones, but they’re smaller with a flat spot. Any my house stinks, although it’s mild enough still that I was able to open some windows.
Second load in the washer. I need to clean the kitchen mess before I do the chicken. I foresee a day of pruny fingers.
