I’m in! ![]()
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and bellied up to the hog trough Chinese buffet place. I went back twice for noodles. Obviously I had some kind of noodle defeciency goin’ on today. The rest of the day was spent in sloth, nappage, etc. We did day drink out beside the cee-mint pond as it was lovely low humidity mid-seventies this afternoon.
Taters sorry you did not get the job. I just know there’s a better one out there, however.
This campin’ you all speak of, do you mean stayin’ in a hotel with no room service? That is positively primitive!
Home, exhausted. I got us some fried chicken from a grocery deli (it was meh) and some sour cream and onion chips. Not much of a supper, so I’ve got a blueberry crisp in the oven right now, plus poke in the slow cooker to be pulled eventually. Tomorrow, I’ll rotiss the third chicken and freeze its parts.
For now, tho, chillage and reading.
It took my first and second breaks today to catch up on reading this thread (while quoting everything I wanna reply to)…now I’m done working for the day, and hoping to finally post! ![]()
The DC jazz venue I went to last week – the beloved, historic Blues Alley, where I have tickets to three upcoming shows in Nov/Dec – had an attic fire yesterday evening.
Luckily, only a few people were inside at the time and everyone was safely evacuated. There is some fire and water damage, but the owner posted on FB and Instagram this afternoon that they will definitely reopen (eventually). No cause has been determined yet. It feels like they just started having live performances again…what a blow to that place/staff.
Bailey’s adoptiversary/gotcha day was yesterday! 14 years ago, my ex and I walked into a rescue’s adoption event at a PetSmart to check out the 3-month-old puppy we’d seen on PetFinder, and I filled out an adoption application on the spot. My ex worked from home, which was a big thing in our favor, but the other person interested in the puppy was going to be able to take her into work. Because both applications were just as good, the rescue drew a name from a hat…and the other person won.
BUT, when she called her boss with the good news, she learned that the office policy was about to change and dogs wouldn’t be allowed anymore! So the ex and I left with the puppy!!
Flyboy’s howling dog skeleton reminds me of something that happened the other week. Every now and then, in the evening, Bailey will do some barking in the living room while playing with/before eating a Milk Bone. She’s just entertaining herself (and me), it usually only lasts 5-10 min, and I don’t mind muting the TV (since I can’t hear it anyway) and waiting her out. Well the other night she was standing there barking, and she must have found the perfect combo of location – in terms of acoustics – and bark pitch/timbre because suddenly the old music box in my curio cabinet started tinkling!
The cabinet was behind her, and for a few seconds every time she barked the music box would respond (and I hadn’t touched it in probably at least a year)! Intellectually I knew it was just some kind of resonance thing, but after a little while I made her move because it was starting to creep me out. Heh.
I will be going to my best friends’ place this weekend for our traditional pumpkin-carving extravagaaaaaanza. I need to figure out what I want to carve this year!
I’m on the fence about whether to hand out candy this year. It’s my first post-op Halloween: eating the leftovers is no longer an option, and since I hardly ever go to the office (and neither does anyone else) I don’t have that as way to get rid of any. Last year there was a local school (or something?) collecting leftover candy, but I don’t think I’m up for looking into that. There are lots of kids in my neighborhood, and I enjoy trick-or-treaters (last year was fun), but there’s an excellent chance I’ll just hide inside with the lights off.
It’s a weird time of year for me, anyway: I like Halloween, but the anniversary of my mom’s death is 11/2. She was admitted to the hospital a week earlier (seven years ago today), so this time of year is all tied up with memories of that last week. She never regained consciousness. I never got to say goodbye, and my brother and I had to decide whether to remove her from life support. I went from “please don’t leave me” to “your work is done, it’s ok for you to go” in a matter of days. It can still be hard to watch TV/movie scenes where families have to decide whether to pull the plug!
Once I started being able to afford to pay the movers to pack me, I never went back. It gets factored into my moving costs now. I don’t pay for unpacking help*, because I actually love that part, but I will never not pay for packing again!
*I might be willing to pay someone to remove the empty boxes, though!
Nice!!
I’ve been an election officer since 2020.
*waves* For this election they have more available officers than needed, so I don’t have an assignment yet. I agreed to be on “standby,” which means I could get an assignment as late as election day itself. I would really prefer some kind of notice, but I’ve already taken the day off work – the whole week, actually! staycation! – and we’ll see what happens.
My county just increased the pay for election officers, starting with the upcoming election, but I might start doin’ it for free: I’ve always accepted pay in the past, because I’d kennel my dog for two nights and so I put the money toward that cost. For the June election, though, I decided to try leaving Bailey at home. 15-16 hours is a long time to leave a doggy alone, but I thought it might actually be less stressful for her than two nights in the kennel…and the older she gets, the easier I want to make things for her. It seemed to work well enough, and is what I’ll do again if assigned in November. So, I will likely start waiving the pay.
FWIW I think this is an excellent approach!
“So get up and get away…”? ![]()
(Anyone else remember that old McDonald’s jingle? No? Just me? Ok then…)
(I mostly know it from Barry Manilow’s Live album, which my mom used to play often; she, my brother, and I would sing along. He wrote that jingle, and performed it – and others – during the live recording.)
metal mouse, Nelson doesn’t so much eat the ice cubes as play with them.
doggio, Gordie is easily entertained, isn’t he? ![]()
taters, I’ve noticed that about da Jungle too. Sorry you didn’t get the job that you interviewed for.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I’ve done laundry and am getting myself psyched to go to the gym and the pharmacy. I have to pick up my new epi pen. I could’ve done it yesterday, but I had a question for my insurance. Nobody likes paying full price for epi pens, but it’ll be good to knock down my Part D deductible.
I just got a call from the infusion center. I guess insurance approved my getting the shots every 2 weeks, so I’m scheduled for that through February. No word yet on the eye surgery.
Boo, good on you for doing the poll work. My sister’s done that for years. I planned to do it when I retired, but I live in a state with mail-in voting only. I thought about volunteering for the ballot-counting end of things, but the buses quit running at 7 PM, and I don’t want to walk that route in the dark. This place is harshing my voting buzz: no stickers, no getting that wonderful excitement I get at polling places…hmph.
I used to urge people to vote. Then I urged people to get informed and then vote. Now I only urge people who aren’t brainwashed by certain biased news stations and propagandistic websites to vote.
shoe, glad you’re alive.
sari, yay for Cerby adapting to daycare. And that desire to please is priceless!
Entire staff:
He’s a magic man. He’s got magic hands.
Sorry to hear that. I wonder if that’s the same Blues Alley where Eva Cassidy used to perform. ![]()
I paid $100 for a 2 pack plus a practice epi pen last year. How does that compare to what you pay? If I’m being too nosy you can just ignore me. Everyone else does.
I’ll sure be glad when this election season is over. If in a moment of weakness you happen to donate to someone’s campaign and they get ahold of your email address, ho boy! You will be snowed under. Over 50 emails begging for money just this morning alone.

Went to the implant clinic to have my sore implant checked out. Turns out I have some swelling (abscess?) and I need to have the wisdom tooth I thought I didn’t have, taken out. About three weeks, I guess.
Stopped by the store on my way home. There is meatloaf in the oven, along with potatoes all-rotten. I left the skins on the potatoes this time, just to see how they are.
{{{{{{ misnomer }}}}}}
Yippee! Hope blessed reliable relief ensues.
This is now my preferred method also.
I’m glad too! Hope you get to come home with a slab of orphaned ribs again.
Sorry about the attic fire oopsie. I hope that they can reopen soonest.
bumba, my last epipen refill was $40 co-pay for a pair. According to Cigna’s statement, the full sticker would have been $368.92.
I hope that that’s one that comes under price controls when insulin does.
Evening all. Life is good, swimmin’-n-sauna were done and I’m getting close to the 270lb mark, hope by next week I’ll be below it and can start working on the 260’s. Tomorrow will be banking and shopping day, the Great November Shopping List list is already prepared.
flyboy, yeah, sometimes those wisdom teeth are pretty clever, hiding back there (had something of the same, but the dentist did get them all). Hope it works out fine.
Never been an election official, might be something to look at. Thanks BBBoo and Oopsie for the info.
And Oopsie, sorry to hear about the fire at the club; hope their insurance covers the repairs. And Happy Anniversary to Bailey, the psychic dog…
Sari, sounds like things may be settling down for you–I hope.
doggio, I also subscribe to the Jeremy Clarkson (one-time BBC announcer) whose entire auto repair skills was “hit it with a hammer”.
OK, need to fetch some sustenance from the kitchen and do some other things before bedtime approaches. All y’all take care.
Where I am it’s $106 for a generic 2 pack (Good Rx).
Auvi-Q is $289/pair regardless of dosage. Also Good Rx. My grandson has to always have 2 epi-pens with him (egg allergy) and since he is only 20lbs or so, has to have the pediatric dosage which around here is only available from Auvi-Q. Let’s hope he grows out of it before he ever needs to use one.
Mrs. L.A. was pleasantly surprised that dinner was cooking when she got home. I made two potatoes in a 5x7 Pyrex baking dish. She ate half! She must’ve been hungry. I had a quarter. The meatloaf turned out very well. Goo got her tribute from both of us.
Picked up the dogs and got my son to irk.
I think Ripple enjoyed having a mommy and me day. He brought me toys and we played tug-o-war, something we haven’t done in a long time.
Cerby was so happy to get home. He got loose from me, but he ran straight for the gate and stood there waiting for me to open it. He came right into the house too, without making me have to call him a zillion times.
I think daycare may have worn his chubby ass out.
Adam is in the house with the dogs, and isn’t hiding from them. I thought he wanted out, but instead he curled up in a chair and went to sleep. We’ve been worried he might run off because of Cerby. He was so happy to spend some time with me that he let me hold him, then he slept on my bed most of the day.
Finally got ahold of my friend. I’ve been trying to call her for over a week. Every time I called it went straight to voicemail. Her cable box was unplugged and her phone is tied to that.
It probably won’t last, but right now, everything feels right with the world.
Oh, I have SUCH a sweet daughter! I got a package in the mail from her today: Peeps ghosts and a little stuffed Snoopy dressed like a pumpkin. Her note said she wanted to surprise ME with a care package for a change! The Peeps have special significance. When I was a wee thing in preschool, a little girl passed out Peeps for her birthday, but when she got to me, she said, “YOU don’t get any!” I have no idea why. She did the same to my friend, Anne, who wasn’t even in our class. I cried, of course, and later, when my mom offered to get me some, I didn’t know what they were called and only knew they were marshmallowy, so she got me marshmallow cookies. (I appreciated the thought.) When my daughter was a teen, she remembered the story and bought me Peeps for Easter. ![]()
The epi pen costs me $318, but again, that’s because it goes toward the deductible. With that and what I spent on the other Rx’s, I’ve met my deductible. This is why I don’t do Good Rx: I have to meet the deductible anyway, either in dribs and drabs or one fell swoop. I’d rather get it over with, which I can do now that I have more time to save up for Italy. After the deductible is met, my cost is usually lower or the same as Good Rx. I wish I could have an HSA without paying an excise tax. Explain THAT rule to me, Uncle Sam.
Oh, once the deductible is met, it’ll be $109 for a two-pack.
Sari, sound like ol’ Cerbs had a good day, and now you can have a better night.
Taters, forgot to say I’m sorry TPTB didn’t have thr foresight to give you the job. Next time, feel free to use me as a reference. That’s Queen Nellie, Castle Anthrax. I’m sure that’ll impress 'em. ![]()
When does this better week start? This week has been beating up myself and my aides all week. My text to them earlier: My return to running will be as I run screaming from this building. ![]()
Fortunately it’s an in-service day Monday so we get a bit of a break.
And, HI Everybody!!
Had cheese tortellini with meatballs and homemade sauce for dinner.
Sticky!
: tacklehug :
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
You deserve it.
Me! And for the same reason. Barry Manilow Live, Cleo Lane, John Denver, Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand and Man of La Mancha were the soundtracks of my childhood.
Followed by the soundtracks to The Muppet Movie and Star Wars.
I actually listened to Moving Right Along earlier this week.
Guess I’ll be listening to Barry Manilow, especially because I have the State Farm Insurance jingle in my head.
this just happened to me … my aunt orders a certain mixer for her local watering hole and she gets credit for it …Well she ran out and I ordered some Saturday… now usually I get it the next day but I ordered at 6 pm and was supposed to get it Monday it took 2 extra days because of a warehouse error
