When I saw this on the news, I immediately thought of you. Hope they’re able to reopen
It was playing in my head as I wrote that…
You and me both! The same half-dozen hateful commercials play over and over again during the evening news, and they’re not even for people I can vote against, since they’re candidates in Virginia! Merrylande is pretty much conceded to stay blue, but I know this county will be blood red. Still, early voting starts today, and I think we’ll go do it.
Hey!! I remember you!!! Where ya been hiding??
No babby today. I’m going to work in the yard, starting with the remains of the veggie patch and the disaster that my greenhouse has become. If I can still move, I’ll do some weeding and/or weed-shacking. It’s supposed to be a pretty, sun-filled day. FCD wants to futz in his shop - he needs a day away from his folks. His dad is really getting bad.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78 and N.O.S. for the day. Today’s plan is for a whole lot of nuttin’, which is fine by me. We shall sloth, accomplish nappage, day drink, and other assorted overall uselessness. Sup shall be chili/cheese/slaw/onion dawgs and oven fries. Fartfest to follow.
Oopsie yikes on the fire! Hope they are up and goin’ again soonest.
Sari glad you had a good day. You deserve a break. That does not mean you have to go to McDonald’s.
{{{StickyBuns}}} :: tacklehug :: good to see ya! Come back and play and let us know what you’re up to. I do see you over on the book of faces.
I, too, will be glad when this election is over. Stoopid commercials!
I do not like Barry Manilow. One of my favorite all time curses is “May you spend eternity at a Barry Manilow concert.”
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
We’re supposed to get winds and an atmospheric river (Pineapple Express) starting at some point today. Fall is coming in with a bang! We have snow in the mountains too. Certainly not enough for ski season, but enough that they’ve closed Chinook Pass for the season, and enough to make me reconsider a planned trip to two offices east of the Cascades. I can’t go anywhere at this point anyway, but I need to get over to each of them sometime this quarter.
Lots of crisis management at work the last couple of days; none of them of my making, but up to me both fix and/or provide info.
I also remember the McDonald’s jingle.
Finally, count me among those who will be glad when this stupid election is over too. I’m sick of the commercials, all of it.
Well, time to find some more Kleenex. I hope you all have a terrific day!
I avoided getting that one stuck in my head, but Nellie’s meanderings around town triggered another one (shakes fist )… “OPEN EVERY DAY — IN FEDERAL WAY!” Gah, I can’t even remember what that commercial was about, but it followed me when I moved away from Seattle.
It’s only for tough and rugged individuals. Sometimes I have to walk all the way across the RV to change the thermostat! Horrors!
As to the MMP-ing… I went to the orange-lumber-place yesterday and discovered an ingenious solution to tailgaters. Turns out, when driving in rush-hour traffic with 16’ boards hanging waaaay out the back of your pickup – Terry the tailgater loses interest in hovering 6 inches from your bumper to hurry you along. No, really! It works great! Not a single tailgater the entire 16 miles. I guess there are a few minor problems parking, but I’ll work on that.
Seriously, finally got around to starting some repairs on an old boat-shed (repurposed as wood and lawnmower shed). I’ll try to get more done on that today, but may end up abandoning due to rain.
Also, disassembled my (failed) underwater video camera, and discovered the battery could be removed after a little digging around. Found a replacement at the battery store, and put it all together and… nothing. Still no lights or signs of life. I eventually tried Percussive Maintenance, and it fixed it! It’s now sending pictures and even the underwater lights are working. Can’t wait to begin using it again.
I remember that one. And the Big Mac one. And Burger King’s ‘Have it your way’ one, plus their It takes two hands to handle a Whopper. The burgers are bigger at Burger King!. And Get a bucket of chicken…
Morning all. Supposed to get N.O.S. and 70F today, so I’ll probably end up doing…nothing much. Should be going shopping but I can wait until tomorrow for that and may decide to. Will try to get to the gym this morning so I can watch soccer all afternoon.
yankers, glad Percussive Maintenance (love that term) worked for you.
In my case, it’s Neil Sedaka…
Howdy StickyBuns!! Don’t be a stranger.
nellie, you done raised that kid right, as might be said here in N. Ali-bama.
Sari, one good day at a time. You’ve earned them.
OK, looks like BLT’s are on the menu for First Meal, may go over to the gym first and work up an appetite. All y’all take care.
Just back from early voting - got a sticker and everything!! I loved the sign in the parking lot “Pain at the pump? Vote Republican!” Yeah. I’m convinced. I did vote to legalize the devil weed in Merrylande.
I’ve got an appointment in half an hour or so to get a haircut. I was going to go to Hair Cuttery but they’re now a Sports Cuts, so I’m trying a local place. We shall see how that goes. There’s a salon right across the street from our neighborhood, but they’re way too proud of their services. I get a simple haircut - it ain’t worth what they think it’s worth.
After that, I may or may not get something done. Onward!!
I early voted on Tuesday. I had my tire repaired and found another problem for which I am taking it today to the dealership under warranty. I had an appt for yesterday but overslept.
I did go to a “special” Dr.yesterday and got me a medical marijuana card. I stocked up on edibles mostly. I have terrible sleep habits so shooting for something to help me sleep. The stoned doctor said that’s what about 90% of patients come in for. I told him he looked like he needed a nap. Dude was wasted.
It seems like I have been out of the house everyday this week. I don’t have plans tomorrow so it’s my day. I have house work and yard work to do. I want everything nice so I can watch football in peace this weekend.
Nice drive yesterday with the fall colors and all. Today is going to be a relaxing day for us. I’m going to make the mulligatawny stew that I’ve been threatening to make for two weeks now, so we’ll get a bit of aroma therapy along with some good eats. Plus, we have pies for desert. Maybe I’ll go get some vanilla ice cream to go with.
Life at Fawlty Towers goes on at a reasonable pace. Things run pretty smoothly, I must say, without a whole lot of drama. I’ve only identified one person to avoid like the plague, which is remarkable in any large group. Long before we moved in, we determined that we would not participate in the usual negative group dynamics of character assassination and gossip, and have been able to avoid any of that so far.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 18c/64f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Mild weather is perfect for pansy fucking asses”, and I agree that it’s quite mild today. It was nasty and wet this morning but we’ve had some sun and it’s reasonably decent out there now. I am contemplating taking myself off to the gym shortly for a change.
metalmouse the railway trespassers were probably would-be thieves. There’s a lot of copper in the lineside equipment, and it’s fairly common for it to be targeted as copper is quite a lucrative commodity. Also, the rail workers tend to leave stuff beside the tracks when they’re working on it, so there’s often a lot of material around although it’s meant to be secured but where there’s a will, right?
sticky!! Good to see you back again!!
Cookie my mum was the same when she moved into sheltered accommodation, there were a group of gossips living there that she never wanted anything to do with. Communal living can be very toxic if you are of a mind to be drawn into it.
Taters I’m sorry you didn’t get the job, sounds like they had already made a decision though so perhaps you should not feel too bad about it. It’s still annoying when you’ve been through the whole process and still don’t get the result you want. There’s something better out there!
Right…off to get some exercise, I’ve been sitting down for far too long today.
I have finally conceded and have an appointment to see a doc this afternoon. Jesus, this crud is terrible. I tested myself this morning and I am still negative for COVID, so I probably have some garden variety sinus infection or something.
Husband-and-wife patients of Wifey, RN offered to cat-sit while we are on vacation. They’re retired, and lost their own cat not long ago. The husband said they’d love to watch Goo and Abbey… as long as we bring them in the MGB. (He has an Aston-Healy.) I don’t know if both carriers will fit on the back shelf!
In any case, Mrs. L.A. and I talked about it a little bit this morning. I offered that the cats would have a lot of attention and space to move, and the patients are closer that Cat Country Resort. On the other hand, God forbid anything happened, such as one or both cats escaping, they would feel terrible. Cat Country has a large ‘airlock’ to keep cats from escaping. They’re veterinary-approved. They have playtime with their guests, and have always taken excellent care of our cats. This will be the first time we will have been away from Goo and Abbey, so we think it might be better to have the professionals look after them. We reserved a large suite months ago.
Happy Thursday! My plans include worrying, getting my hair trimmed, worrying, and going to the gym, followed by more worrying. The worrying is for my daughter, who’s been having serious stomach issues for about 8 months. It took months to be able to get in to her GP. The GP tried meds–more time–then referred her to a G-E doc. Of course, that meant more months. The G-E was alarmed by my daughter’s weight loss (a direct result of days when she can’t keep down food) and put a “rush” on orders for a colonoscopy and endoscopy. It still took 8 weeks. She had both this morning and says they took several biopsies.
So here’s my question and why I’m worried: Do they take biopsies of normal-looking tissue, or just of tissue that looks dubious? I want them to find out what’s going on. I just don’t want it to be something awful. Also, how long does it take to get the biopsy results?
Taters, good luck at your appointment. I hope you can get some meds that will clear up whatever is going on. Is your husband still under the weather, too?
Huh. How does one find these docs? Weed is legal where I live, and I don’t do well on it, so I’m just curious.
I think I remember every commercial jingle I’ve ever heard. Doesn’t it seem like jingles have gone out of style?
Today was surplus produce day and they gave us two watermelons and a honeydew. I took one of the watermelons and the honeydew (along with all of the other food we couldn’t use)to the lady with the hurt husband. She had three toddlers in the living room who all knew what a watermelon was and were very vocal about wanting some NOW! It was very cute.
I’m feeling kinda out of it today, Hubs had a bad night and doesn’t suffer quietly so I was awake all night too. I suggest that having someone who knew what they were doing wrap his ribs might lesson the pain and he poo-pooed me. I did see him asking Dr. Google, so maybe he might consider it.
Hurray, sometimes you just gotta know where to smack it!
Taters, I’m sorry you didn’t get the job and even more sorry that you are still feeling icky. I hope you can get some relief soon.
You did say that he was a smart dog who wanted to please. Good for him for figuring out what you wanted so quickly!
I’m glad everything is going well for you.
If it is anything like here in Arizona, they advertise and have store fronts on main roads. I had one for a couple of years before I retired for the added protections they offered, but now that it is legal I haven’t renewed my card.
It’s not particularly cold outside (about 54º Ferret Height); but as dad would say, ‘It’s blowin’ up a storm.’ So I put on sweatpants and a hoodie. Lots of drag, so it was a hard walk down the beach. I only went 2.6 miles today… and it took 55 minutes, which is almost as long as it takes for my 3.1 mile walks.
