Roo, I think the delivery thing is a combination of two factors - inherent laziness and cheap labour. The delivery guys (predominantly South Asian) get paid maybe US$300/month (sometimes only half that much). That’s why I always tip the delivery guy generously. The cheap wages are also why so many people have live-in housemaids. There have been a lot of angry letters to the editor in the newspapers lately about the Philippines imposing a US$400/month minimum wage for expat housemaids and plans by the Indian government to follow a similar path. Lots of indignant, “we only earn $800/month, how can we afford to pay our housemaid so much” letters - D’oh! Try cleaning your own damn house!!!
LiLi, tough breaks being awake at 3:30am, but you should probably get used to it! Believe me, I have on occasion entertained thoughts that simply aren’t maternal - sleep deprivation will do that to you!
I would way rather be peed on by a baby than a cat. Cat pee takes forever to get out of things. And it was my damn pillows he sprayed!
Idiot animal. And I’ve just thrown up, too. Sigh. I think the laundromat opens at 5:30. I’ll probably take the wash out then.
I’ve already had a year’s training in chronic insomnia. I think I’ll probably be grateful for the experience after the baby arrives. I have a reasonable understanding of what it feels like not to sleep for a week. And what I can and cannot manage to do (i.e. housework) on one hour a night.
Mornin’/Whatever Y’all! I’m up and caffienatin’. I also called off work so’s I can go take the P&G test. Did I mention I found out it’s not the same test I already took in June? Apparently this one is more technical aptitude stuff which should be no sweat. What? I got me some technical aptitudes and stuff!
Ok, off to purtify. Since I’m slackin’ off work today, I’m meetin’ ol’ y’all know who for breakfast at that fine dining establishment known as Waffle House. Nuttin’ but the classy places for us!
Later Y’all!
Oh, and even though you won’t see this… have a safe trip BioTigs!
Roo, this one is for you, sent by me in my capacity as substitute night-watchman/Nooner’s proxy:
[Brotherhood of Man]Though it hurts to go away
It’s impossible to stay
But there’s one thing I must say
Before I go
I love you (I love you) you know
I’ll be thinking of you
In most everything I do
Now the time is moving on
And I really should be gone
But you keep me hanging on
For one more smile
I love you (I love you) all the while
With your cute little ways
Will you promise that you’ll save
Your kisses for me
Save all your kisses for me
Bye bye baby bye bye
Don’t cry honey don’t cry
Gonna walk out the door
But I’ll soon be back for more …[/Brotherhood of Man].
why? she asked because she couldn’t think of anything else to post and wanted to check in before heading off to the surgeon to make sure it’s only patella tendonitis and that there’s no permanent damage
It was truly lots and lots of fun. I was so sorry **rigs ** couldn’t make it.
Sorry about Bailey acting up. Not really what you needed, I’m sure.
I’m up and trying to caffeinate and get motivated for work. That’s been hard this week. I think I enjoyed my vacation far too much. Anyone want to support me in the style to which I’ve become accustomed so that I can retire now…?
Hope everything goes well in that surgery for the hubby, FCM. plunks head back on couch and has a quick little 10 minute nap before he has to go shower and get ready for work
Flight landed; mother is in the local hospital (where her long-term case physician works); landed here in not the best of shape, we’re hoping mostly due to the long schlepp, but there are certainly plenty of other issues – it’s not like she’s going home in a few days…
I have popped in to work for a few hours, going to the hospital soon… I’ll see you all later in the evening (N. American late morning/noon)
SpecialOne, glad to hear that your Mom is back home; I know that’s a relief to all of your family.
GT, what a beautiful slide show of Chicago! Thanks so much for sharing. And I really enjoyed seeing pics of fellow Mumpers, most of whom looked somewhat as I had pictured them. Yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Dotty I love reading your stories about life in the desert–all that heat would definitely challenge my sanity, let me tell you! I also appreciated your descriptions of Ramadan!
Well, time to caffeinate a bit more. Good luck with the test today, Swampy, and enjoy your breakfast waffle too.
Rigs wishes she could have made it, too! Pictures are gorgeous and it looks like a lot of fun. And I see you had Chicago style pizza-my favorite. <sigh>
This just means that you have to come back for more vacation!
Off to work very soon. Lots of work today, and then parent night at the HS. I’ll be one tired rigs tonight. (but must stay up for TDS-Bill Clinton is on).
Glad to see that Mom got there, ok, SpecialOne. And where is **MamaT **going, again? I’m losing track of everyone!
Lisslar–all cats are stupid. They just vary in their degrees of stupidity. I like the metal box. Better yet-make is a mesh one, so that he can see everything he’s missing… <evil laugh>
Sending hugs and prayers and good wishes to all who need them. Glad to hear your mom is home, Special One.
I haven’t been talking about food lately! In the past few days I’ve made shrimp stir-fry and fried rice, fried catfish with baked NOT wedges, tuna casserole, (wow - that’s a lot of fish!), and um - steaks Sunday night. Tonight will be tacos, refried beans and guacamole.
Let me add to my list of annoyance calls. First and second are out of control alcoholics and recreational drug users. Today, I’m adding suicidal patients.
I vaguely recall hearing the page for a guy with cut arms around 0300. There was a full crew, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. Loki got me up around 0330 for his midnight poop run, and I just got back into bed from that when a page went out for a second crew to transport a guy who was having complications from the removal of a burst appendix. It was close to home, but I had to go get the ambulance from the station which is a few miles in the wrong direction. The run itself was uneventful.
I got home just about the time I normally get to work, and I had to fight to stay awake while I drove. Mr. Suicide, I hope you heal and get the help you need, so I can properly kick your butt in the manner deserved ( *0.5).
If Mr. Suicide had not tried to slash his wrists, then the scheduled crew would have been available to take Mr. Appendix-less, and I could have finished my ugly sleep.
The post was meant to be read in a spirit of sarcasm and “Why me?” fun…
Mornin’ Mumpers! It’s Friday’s practice run. Woohoo! It’s also MindWife’s birthday (thanks, Roo!, I’ll pass the wishes along) so tonight I will be baking her birthday … cupcakes. Yes, cupcakes. It’s a sort of tradition. French vanilla cupcakes with milk chocolate icing (though I’m adding cream cheese icing to the mix as an alternate this year) and a candle in each one. I still have to pick up the eggs and milk, though, and the bottle of her favourite perfume on my way home. (I never buy her gifts early if I can help it because they’re freakin’ impossible to hide from her when she knows I’ve already bought something. Nose like a bloodhound with two sniffers, that one. :D)
Rosie - Sorry, that wasn’t bad enough for a B-L. Maybe BoyoJim can help you [del]improve[/del] worsen your prose – I’ve never met a sentence that can’t be made Bulworthy by referencing bodily functions out of context.
Hank - Great pictures – looks like you guys had an awesome time. Looked like fun, anyway. And may I just say, that is just about the deepest Ogdamn dish pizza I have ever seen in my freakin’ life. I mean I know Chitown is the birthplace of the deep dish, but Jebus’ fetlocks, how the hell does that thing stay cohesive? There’s so much sauce in there that it looks like bringing a slice to your plate would involve irrigation.
Dotty - Cheez Whiz on nachos?? Such unmitigated blaspheme! I know they do (did?) it in the commercials, but I console myself with the possibility that they were going for the Ozark demographic. Granted, I have been known to have nachos with bottled Salsa con Queso, but that’s quite a bit different, and I only do it when I’m too lazy to make real nachos. With aged cheddar, mind.
Cheeze Whiz indeed. As they used to say, it “adds personality.” Fred Phelps has personality. He’d better stay the hell away from my nachos, too.
I hate work. Programs still not working. Going up and down all day. Frustrated customers that I get to deal with. Too many freaking reminder notes I have to send to people just to do what I was freaking hired to do. Is it Friday yet?
FCM, you and **FCD ** are in my thoughts and prayers.
