Let's Get Froggy! A Beachy MMP.

I just put the arthritic fingers handles on the coffee mugs. They look pretty cool. Next will be clay band-aids. Then my sister wants me to write some things on each mug - in black and blue! Yes, I’ll post pics when they’re done.

**FCD ** had chili for supper, and I had an apple and some bread-n-butter. After messing with clay for 2 hours, I didn’t want to mess with cooking.

Speaking of **FCD ** - he may be able to telecommute while he’s recovering. Turns out he’s got a design project (just assigned today) that’s ideal for working from home. He can sit with his laptop in his lap and draw pretty pixtures! And get his real pay, instead of short-term disability. That’s a big relief for me, since the disability pay isn’t even close to his regular salary. Hurray for good bosses!

I’m feeling a serious ice cream deficiency - I need to do something about that before I go into shock or something.

Want some toffee caramel ice cream? :: holds out a spoon ::

I tried hooking up my new record player to the TV, but for some reason the sound is tiny. I guess I’ll have to buy a seperate speaker system. Nuts.

On the other hand, I got a collection of Simon and Garfunkel music (3 CDs) for $6. Using nothing but my feminine wiles. I love S&G. Too bad they didn’t have any vinyl records.

I’m partial to orange sherbet, esepecially with a little bit of vanilla mixed in… mmmmm…

Our benefits people or more specifically the advisor assigned to my letter of the alphabet is worthless has been the entire 4 years I have been here in the states. She had no concept that I was not from here and that I needed help with medical insurance, 401K, how did the vision plan work yadda yadda yadda when I had never come across these things before.

But my boss is awesome and overall (even with the occasional crappy period) the company has been very good to me so I stick around. And you wanna know the even better thing? When my bosses boss called me about the telecommuter thing we chatted for a few moments and he asked if I knew I had been invited to Interchange (Annual Corporate event/workshop with CEO, VPs etc etc). I knew I had but as I was going to be gone for a month leaving again a week after I get back doesn’t feel right to go. I was told that I HAD to go and that I had a lot of good ideas that I have done at my district that could be implemented in the specific project group I was assigned to. I said OK then I will go.

Wanna know where it is this year? Cancun baby!

It seems like every day this week I’ve had to clean up dog pee or crap. Now, I do pick it up outside pretty much every day, but for some reason lots of dogs have decided that the floor indoors is a good place for it this week. “It comes in streaks,” my aunt tells me when I mention that it’s been happening every day this week. “Literally,” I told her, as I cleaned up dog poo streaks off the floor earlier today. ARRRRGH. Either hold it or let us know somehow that you need to go out, dammit, stupid dogs!

Hugs and whatnot to all who need them!

For some reason I’ve been just wiped out this week. Maybe the weather changing? It snowed up in the mountains a couple of days ago, even though if it did here I missed it. It will, though. Apparently the weather people are saying there’s going to be a lot of it this year. Bring it on, I say. Bring it on. What the hell.

Hey y’all! I feel so behind, this is the first time in I don’t know how long I’ve even gotten to read the MMP! Hugs and sympathies and congrats all around as appropriate and needed.

Nothing too new or exciting to report 'round these parts. Work and more work. Quickly approaching my 1-year wedding anniversary, in just over two weeks! We’ll probably just go have a nice dinner somewhere. Tomorrow I’ll be meeting a friend for lunch and getting some Chinese food - yum. Been looking forward to that all week.

Next week is my company picnic complete with bake-off, and I’ve been contemplating making an applesauce cake to enter. There are three prizes for the winners, not that I care or expect to win but at least I can contribute something that way. I just made some chocolate chip cookies earlier this week for at home and they’ve been going fast. Before that I was on a pepperoni bread baking spree, I think three loaves in as many weeks. So maybe I can handle a cake for work.

I am so looking forward to the weekend - I have absolutely nothing going on. Well, I have to take my car in Saturday to have the muffler looked at, but I can walk back home from the repair shop and please Og it won’t be too expensive. I plan on doing a lot of sleeping. I’ve been a little under the weather this week and have been bemoaning the notable lack of naptime scheduled into my afternoons at work. Not such a bad idea, no?

Good evening everyone!

**ems,**it sounds like you have a really awesome boss. I’m glad he stepped up to the plate to help you out like that.

rosie, I’m glad the knee thing turned out to be minor.

**gt ** and haze, thanks for sharing the pictures with us. That pizza looked huge! Good grief! I don’t think I could make it through even one slice! It looks like you folks had a very nice time.

I wish more of you mumpers lived out my way. It would be awesome to meet you in real life. My list of met MMPers and dopers isn’t very long; although, every one of them has been a real pleasure to meet.

I’m hungry, for pete’s sake! I should cook some dinner, but nothing sounds appetizing.

Continued good wishes for Special One’s mom. I’m glad she made it home.

I found out not too long ago, that we’re having a sort of unofficial 25th year high school reunion this weekend. The plan is to meet up at a tavern in downtown Tacoma, I guess. I don’t plan on attending.

Well, I should figure out what to cook for dinner.

Glad Mom is back in Israel, SO. I’m sure that will make it easier for the whole family, if anything about a time like this can be easier. :frowning: Hugs.

I’m hoping to get back to Chicago really soon. There are a bunch of places I didn’t get to see and now that I know how to get around easily, I’ll probably just look for a long weekend when I can get a cheap flight.

And yes, the pizza was yummy. I only ate one slice, but…yummmmmm.

I’m hoping to make it to your neck of the woods sometime, Taters. I have a cousin studying at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (he just started this semester) and am hoping to make it up there while he’s there. If that works out, I’ll try to set up the trip so that we can meet up…

Glad the knee is OK, rosie.

Hi, scout!

Wow! There’s a plethora of good bosses in this thread. And boss’s bosses. I have a really good boss too, although he’s not as much of a fighter as I’d like. He’s kind and supportive and smart. Also, we’ve known each other for more than 15 years and have worked together a lot, so I don’t have to explain much to him. (Are we invited to Cancun, too???)

Rebo, will you move to Ohio and cook dinner for me, please?

Wow, Fearless, it’s been a year already? Congratulations!

One of the reasons I don’t have pets is that I couldn’t deal with clean-up. Also, they’d be alone most of the time since I’m hardly ever home.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures…

I’ve been writing this for hours now. Perhaps I should post?

It’s almost Friday!!!

GT

Hey, I’m back. I sorta skimmed. Back to the normal grind tomorrow, which is kind of a good thing.

doggyservant it’s really not a management thing, the program is aimed at kids, I’ll be training teachers, drivers and other staff in it.

haze cool pictures. I almost feel like I was there!

Night all.

Am exhausted. Work, then parent night at HS. Feet hurt. No articles, no pronouns.

night.

I am going to push Stupid Whiny Self-Absorbed Co-Worker down the stairs next time he suggests that he’s more tired and less flexible than the six-months pregnant lady who’s been up since three. And that she should do the heavy lifting, because his 21 year old ancient body is too weak and pitiful.

On the bright side, I got a raise. Now I’m making quite decent money for a retail person. Especially on Sundays, which are time and a half. I just got a couple weeks’ back pay, too. Awesome.

No, officer, he fell. Honest. I saw him. He tripped over his own ego.

It’s true. And his sense of entitlement.

Pity about the concrete at the bottom of the steps.

Lili, thanks for the fuse info.

pale bunny, thanks for sending out the hugs, but it sounds like you need one too. Here’s one sent straight to you. Hug!! Cleaning up streaks of dog poo doesn’t even sound fun.

Hey Fleader, welcome back to the MMP.

Good bosses abound in this thread. How awesome!
A few nights ago, I was looking at some fabrics online and found some bamboo fabric. I hadn’t heard of bamboo fabric before, so I googled it and found this article on bamboo fabric in general. Then the next day I happened to be talking to a woman that I didn’t know who happened to be a textile artist and she said that she has some bamboo fiber to weave (she’s a weaver). And I think she also mentioned about bamboo yarn. Do any of you fiber artists know anything about bamboo fabric? The article says it’s smooth to the touch. The woman I spoke with said it’s similar to tencel but lighter. Can anyone confirm this? That particular swatch I linked has some lycra in it, so if the fiber is smooth, that could be a fun fabric to play with.

Dotty, my song for tonight. This one cracked me up when I looked up the lyrics. The beginning and end sounds kinda. . . er, not nice. I don’t even know what it means, but I’m just copying from here: Mr. Sandman lyrics.

[Chordettes](scat “bung, bung, bung, bung…)

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I’ve ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I’m so alone
Don’t have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream.

(scat “bung, bung, bung, bung.….)[/Chordetes]

And Mr. Sandman could bring me some sleep too. Thankyouverymuch.

Good night and good morning everyone!

Lunch, you’re on duty again tonight, assuming your mom’s OK. And I hope she is.

Perfect song, Roo. I would like a dream. Or at least sleep. I’ve been very awake for an hour or so. (I was sure it was time to get up when I woke up.)

I have bamboo sheets (from Target, even). They’re very soft; not sure exactly how to describe them.

Oooooh…a yawn.

Off to look for sleep. I know it’s here somewhere…

GT

gt, sweet dreams!

Fly-by…

Assorted yays boos and awws to everybody.

Any other Jews out there – Gmar Hatima Tova (loosely – “may your name be sealed [in the Book of Life for the coming year]” – the traditional blessing before Yom Kippur)

Mom’s answer: “what, putting up with ONE man wasn’t bad enough? I’m not crazy!”

Lovely pics, GT and Haze. My brother, who is trying to improve his English, could use a link to the Dope, but I have two problems: first, I don’t want him to come after me with his copy of Arwen’s sword for talking about some of the things I do, and second, I don’t want to have to mop him off the floor when he gets hit by Hazey pics.

Hi, Nooner! Good thoughts sent to your Mom and Dad and sister and you and wife and the twins and the Special Teen - and to all the sick people hereabouts and their Mumpers.
gotti, your recipe for disaster seems quite good, I’m sure it would work very well. Maybe it wouldn’t make a good disaster movie, but a good long-lasting thread in an office sitcom oh yes.

Normally I’ve been working Tuesday-Thursday. This week I was told to skip Thursday and come in today, that’s why I barely came in yesterday. Spent all morning and part of the afternoon running errands linked to leaving la Suisse. Today I got a letter from the Swiss police saying that I’m not working here any more in October (don’t ask me why, but I needed my employer’s letter for the police, and then the police’s letter for the insurance company) and then was able to cancel my insurance.

Next week I’m supposed to come in M-Th, but I have a small leak in the bathroom and the guy from the insurance company is coming on Monday. So I’ve left a note on my boss’ desk (he’s in but not at his desk right now and he’s bad with email), we’ll see if he answers. Sometimes he’s been on meetings all afternoon. No water damage yet, but having to remember to open and close the main line is a drag, specially at 3am yawn And doing laundry means two whole-body towels completely soaked from the leak.

I’m up and caffeinated. It’s truck day today, they are bringing Christmas stuff. :dubious: Hockey tonight. [sup]3[/sup]

Lunch, glad mom made it back.

Congrats, Fearless!

So I promised myself that I would not let the week slip by without posting again. It’s been a busy week, and I have just skimmed through quickly, so first the yays, boos, sympathy etc. as needed.

mmmms and special one my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. picu much empathy with the situation with your fil. My grandfather behaved in much the same fashion, and currently my fil is becoming increasingly difficult to deal with between the dementia and his need to be The Boss. Hugs to you and your DH. My best thoughts and prayers for FCD, and also VunderWife. For those whom I have forgotten right now, much of the same.

Thanks you guys for the thoughts and prayers concerning my mom. I hate lupus, I hate what it has done to mom, and for what it is doing to me. I hate being so far away from her. I am OCD and I hate not being in control of the situation. sigh

The good stuff this week has centered on my daughter and granddaughter arriving Thursday night. They came over after they arrived and spent a couple of hours, and then came this morning for a bit before my daughter went to run her mil’s daycare while she had doctor appointments. I got to keep Tea all afternoon, and after they went to the other grandma’s for a bit they came back to spend the evening. My kid had some home made chicken noodle soup (two helpings, it was always one of her favorites) and then she and I had a few shots of Patron while grandpa played with Tea. (So I suppose that makes this an obligatory drunken post :stuck_out_tongue: ) Some good conversation before she and Tea headed back to other grandma’s for the night. They will be back tomorrow (today) for another visit, and I will keep Tea again while she watches the daycare, and then they will head out to catch a plane back to Anchorage. Mt two younger kids spent time becoming acquainted with their niece, and I have photos of both of them, and grandpa with Tea. She is such a good baby, only fusses when she need feeding, burping or changing, and of course she is currently the most beautiful baby in the (my) world!

I received the strangest email today, from a former best friend who really went out with a bang several years ago after a 20+ year friendship. She popped in out of the blue a year ago August requesting my recipe for pickled
salmon, and I sent her a straightforward recipe, no chat, and then heard nothing back. Which I was fine with. Today she wrote that she just got back online, and that I am still her best friend (???) and that she loves and misses me. I am still looking at it and thinking “Whaaaat???” There was no ambiguity about the break up of the friendship, and to quote Lewis Black “I am confused”! I have no idea how to react, not to mention I haven’t the vaguest idea how to respond, except by not responding. Crazy!

Well the clock is closing in on 3:00 am and I need to put my backside into bed. Happy Friday everyone!
