I’ll match this guess with the just-as-likely guess that plenty of Trump voters became disgusted with his antics and won’t vote for him again.
That and $3… will that even get you a McCafé?
How many more times do we need to be shocked, surprised and deeply saddened by the large proportion of deplorables among us?
If Dems win the WH in 2020, it will be by an uncomfortably slim margin. Turning over control in the Senate is a pipe dream.
But hey, I want to be wrong. I like surprises.
For the 85th time, I believe this will make it: yes, Trump is worse. What is your point?
Some people are very far to the left*. Those people exist. Aren’t we all about electability here? People don’t vote based on “daylight.” “There’s not literally no difference” is not a good sales pitch. You just quoted me making this point, but I’ll make it again if you like: insisting that you’re far enough left, when people are saying you’re not, becomes more your problem, and less their problem, the more of them there are. And there are lots of them.
- And some people are far enough left to make someone like you, a conservative who has embraced the fact that Democrats have slid far enough to the right to embrace you, call them “very very far to the left.”
It’s all guessing! We’ll find out in Nov.
I have several answers to this.
I do not generally insult democrats or democratic supporters of particular candidates routinely. The insults I’ve thrown around in this thread are at people who perceive themselves to be more adult or more practical because they support a non-Bernie candidate. Like wanting Joe Fucking Biden to run as a moderate republican is a position of moral superiority. Most of my insults are retaliating in nature to people who already attacked me, rather than me proactively trying to insult a group like is often directed against Bernie supporters.
I am not a democrat, I do not like the Democratic Party, and I do not want any candidate outside of Sanders or Warren to be president. So I don’t feel that I have to convince people of the merits of the Democratic Party, given that I do not like them.
I don’t know that such a thing as a “moderate democrat” exists. What would that mean? Someone who wants to support the Democratic Party but doesn’t want any leftist policies? I feel like those people would better be called establishment democrats or conservative democrats.
If you’re an establishment democrat, then I don’t need to convince you to vote for a democratic establishment candidate. You’re the democrat, I’m not, it doesn’t make much sense to hold me to the obligation of the sales pitch.
But that doesn’t apply to the reverse. Since I am not a democrat, do not generally like the Democratic Party or the candidates they nominate, but the Democratic Party and their supporters want my vote, it’s on them to make the sales pitch to me as to why voting for their candidate makes sense.
And so if I’m in a position where I really don’t want to vote for Joe Biden, you should probably appeal to me by helping me see the merits of that decision, not saying “oh boo how you dumb shit Bernie Bro, eat your shit sandwich or you want to suck Trump’s dick” - having the people who should be convincing me why I should vote for their candidate instead treating me like shit makes it harder for me to swallow that pill. Not easier.
And most relevantly, if Bernie were the nominee, and I saw someone who was struggling or uncomfortable with voting for him, my reaction would not be to insult them and make the decision less appealing to them. I would try to make the decision more appealing. This seems obvious, and yet you have countless democratic supporters who want to convince people to vote democrat insulting and alienating them for no fucking reason.
I’ve said it before. I don’t like ex-Republican oligarch Bloomberg, at ALL. I like Bernie but NOT his “bro bots” (but I do like Bernie). I like Warren. I like some of what Klobuchar says.
However I will vote for ANYone that gets nominated. Why? To stop TRUMP. Even Bloomberg if it comes to that.
That is the only campaign “issue” this year. You all need to get your shit together this time.

That bears repeating!
You’ll do what to them?
Do you see now why you were wrong to treat moderates the way you do?
Did you read post 502? Your attempt at a gotcha is pathetic
It’s ideological self righteousness.
Are you kidding? You think the Democratic party has slid to the right? What time frame are you using? The Democrats haven’t clutched the loony left so tightly to their breast since the 1980s, maybe 1970s.
You can chase the votes that will stay home and pout if Bernie loses (possibly at a brokered convention) or you can chase moderates. It will be hard to fully satisfy both.
Which voting block do you think is more important in the swing states? The moderates like me who are liberal in almost every way except one or two (guns and affirmative action in my case), or the Justice Party folks?
Yes. Every time she excuses herself for her loss, she is wrong.
Romney might as well blame the guy that took the video of him calling 47% of Americans moochers.
Wow. You don’t think the democrats have moved right in the last 30 or 40 years? Do you think today’s democrats touch the new deal or the great society with a 10 foot pole?
I’m kind of stunned that you think the democrats haven’t moved rightward. In the 1930s through 1970s was an actually left wing party. I don’t know enough about pre 1930 to say any further than that. They’re a center right party for at least 20 years now.
I’m a sane country they’d make an adequate right wing party.
The crazy looney left you’re talking about wouldve been mainstream Democrat 40-90 years ago. The fact that you dismiss policies that every other rich country in the world has as looney left shows how conservative you are.
“Moderates” like you will either vote Trump or stay home regardless of who the Dems nominate.
You know a lot of moderates like me swing both ways (not this election because we also tend to be mature rational adults). So why should the establishment Democrats pander to you rather than to me?
This may come down to a brokered convention and I am pretty sure that Bernie does not win a brokered convention. Why should the establishment bend over backwards to appease people like you when they can just go with someone like biden and appease people like me?
Tell you what. If Bernie is the nominee, I will 99% vote for him but maybe I won’t. It depends on whether or not my feelings are hurt. Now the threat is equalized.
Your posting history precedes post 502 of this thread.
Blue Dogs and Boll Weevils are merely fever dream memories I insist on having.
CMC fnord!
FDR was not 30-40 years ago. Clinton the triangulator was 28 years ago. You think we are significantly to the right of that?
So it has been a center right party for 20 years but it was a leftist party 30 years ago? Perhaps getting absolutely crushed by Reagan made the Democrats re-evaluate listening to the left wing of their party.
Sure if you define sane country as any country where the politics are so far left that the US Democratic party is to the left of their right wing party.
Let’s try this. You name a country where the conservative party is to the left of the Democratic party and I will name a country with a conservative party to the right of the Democrats and let’s see who runs out of countries first.
You talking about the Democratic party that voted against bussing in the 1970s?
Or the party that had MLK Jr. tailed by the FBI?
Or the party that got us into Vietnam?
Which policies do you think I dismiss?
