One of those posters happens to be Liberal who begins one and participates in two threads, posting with civility and without commotion or fanfare.
Some jerk decides to use a sock to call attention to Liberal’s presence on the SDMB, posting several explicit lies that portray **Liberal **as having posted insults that he never actually posted on the spin-off boards.

I don’t have access to the sock post, but I do remember two of the charges the sock made.

The “Tubby-Diva and Lynn Baloney” thing (because it’s just such a fucking bizarre insult) stuck in my mind and a 10 second search later: POOF

I can remember TubbyDiva, the sweet lady who always gently guided users in the ways of the board. I can fondly recall how she signed each post with “Thanks so much for your business! Your loving TubbyDiva.”

And then there was that Lynn lady. What was her name? Lynn Baloney? If I remember correctly, she was the welcome lady in the rant forum. What was it? The Gas Grill? I vaguely remember her encouraging everyone with “Ha ha ha! That was a funny OP! I’m gonna make it a sticky!” Stuff like that.

Can any of you remember Ned Shoddy?

(he dribbles on from there for another couple of paragraphs and takes a backhanded swipe at the intelligence of Dopers in general)

And the other charge was that he called mods/admins “Cunts”, right?

and I’m pretty sure he called Ed a "cnt” as well, but I can’t find it.

So what other “lies” did this sock make? From what I remember of it, the sock was dead-on.

I hate to disagree with you on board policy, but I have an e-mail from Ed that I’d forward to you if you like (or, with Ed’s permission share here) that explicitly states that making fun of other boards (and presumably the posters on them) is 100% permitted.

He point-blank states that the rule is to prevent people here from organizing campaigns to go to another board and start trouble there (like the Left Behind thing).

Again, I’ll be more than happy to forward it to you.

I don’t care if everyone has some visceral need to beat up on Liberal; I just find it funny that his mere appearance, here, is enough to get people posting lies about him and lots more piling on. There ought to be enough posts by Liberal that anger enough people to fill a thread without making stuff up.

Don’t make it sound like people care. I don’t think anyone feels a “visceral need” and I don’t think anyone is “beating up on” Liberal. Entertainment purposes only, must be 18 or older. Nobody is throwing stones at him, only rotten tomatoes.

It is like running the bulls on Pamplona. It is part of the tradition. Never mind that it is not that much fun or that there is no real danger. It is done because it has been done.

And I don’t care if He with Hurt on his Butt will get on his high horse and claim this is tantamount to child abuse. It is not. It is all fun and games (until someone gets banned).

1. I’m allowed to request posters to do or not do things. That’s what I did.

Me too, and I couldn’t be happier. I think Liberal’s an idiot, but other than that, this is the kind of bullshit I was thrilled to see disappear into the ether. I didn’t even realize how much of this stuff we haven’t seen recently until this thread got it started back up.

At the height of a period of great angst and commotion on the SDMB, numerous posters exit the board, some with more drama than others.
As is his wont,** Liberal**, choosing to exit, also chooses to make his exit dramatic.
Time passes.
Several posters on the three boards involved in the kerfluffle observe that the situation on the SDMB has undergone some changes, resulting in far less angst.
A few posters who had declared their intention to exit the SDMB for the spin-off boards edge back into the SDMB without making any great deal about it.

It’s not quite that simple. If Liberal had just left- or even said, “oh, by the way, I’m leaving”, and come back, nobody would give a shit.

But he didn’t- he made a huge scene, with a ridiculous giant metaphor that I’m sure he thought was very clever, and burned his bridges. Now he wants to cross back, without an apology or even so much as an acknowledgment that maybe he acted like a giant douche.

tomndeb – are you really unable to discern a difference between hyperbole and lies? The socky OP gave a fairly hyperbolic version of Lib’s departure, but it wasn’t untrue to the tone, if not the actual words, of what the latter said when he gave his (not-so-) final performance here.

Me too. It’s been so fun the past couple of months, where we could, you know, answer questions and debate things, maybe chat about things going on in our lives or a book we’ve read, without everything turning into a stupid drama. I’ve been pleased that the other boards seemed to siphon off that stuff.

He’s been to Domebo and he’s quit there at least 3 or 4 times, been to Giraffeboard and quit once or twice and to Fathom (when he lied to them, telling them that he’d been banned here, when, well…he wasn’t), each time insulting the board he’d left behind with more hyperbole than a million billion exploding suns could generate, stuff like (close paraphrases) “Their words cut me like a knife-wound to the gut” or “Sent me into such a downward spiral that I stopped posting for nearly a week, almost forever!” and crap like that.

This guy goes through bridges like Sherman goes through Atlanta or prunes go through my grandma.
