You mean triple chocolate fudge ice cream is an aphrodisiac??? Ah Sweet Jebus! My prayers have been answered!!!
Just for you Swampy:
There is a prospect of a thrilling time ahead of you.
AND –
Don’t let others stop you from doing what you know is right.
Although I did get one once that read:
Embarrasing pictures will surface on the internet.
BTW, the beer-butt chicken was pretty good, if a bit dry. I relied on an old meat thermometer to tell me when it was done. I shoulda gone on instinct. The meshuggina thermometer is verplunkt.
The danish turned out, but I think I put a little too much glaze on it, and the bottom’s soggy. I’m taking most of it in to work so as to get more worship from co-workers. Attacks Husband and I had a cake battle last weekend. He did double fudge and I did chocolate gingerbread. My manager is thinking about putting ‘pastry chef’ into the list of hiring requirements.
I’m going to ask the aforesaid manager if it’s okay with him if I work all Sunday. I used to work thirteen hour Saturdays when I was working two jobs.
Todays crappy-ness is slightly more bearable than yesterdays real crappy-ness so I am better. I don’t think I even need ice cream.
Anyone remember the car accident I was in waaaaaaaay back in September? I know you all keep up with my thrilling life :D. Well the dumb f&*(#$ who hit me his insurance is now denying it was his fault and refusing to pay out. They also feel I received “unnessessary treatement”. I hate hate hate insurance companies with a burning passion
Anyways as I have had no sleep for 2 days being on call and the place being crazy go-nuts there was someone in who could cover for me this afternoon so I (being the boss) took myself off home for a 2 hour nap at lunch. I feel…refreshed!
Well, I guess you’re officially hooked, eh, Dotster? Bummer about the fainting. Last time I got all woozy and stuff at work, I wound up having my gallbladder removed. Here’s hoping it’s not your gallbladder.
I have no Chinese fortunes to share because the last time we went to the Chinese buffet, we didn’t get cookies. I don’t have much of anything to share, come to think of it. Work was boring again. Weather was sunny but chilly. FCD took me out to dinner and the service sucked swampwater. And that’s pretty much all I have.
Yay, Dot is staying!!! Sorry about the fainting thing… (Is everyone fainting this week? Wasn’t that the problem with Drae’s roomie? This is really not a desirable trend.)
Petunia pic was funny. Grandma called me Punkin forever. Also not anything like my name. I was in my late 30s when she died and she called me that to the end…
Nice to see that the normal level of juvenility has been attained today (I’m looking at you, mr. swampington bear) The ice cream with nuts one made me laugh.
I have a whole collection of fortunes somewhere. I’m going to put them into a document and turn them into something decorative. Someday. Haven’t been to the Chinese buffet lately, so I don’t have any recent ones.
ems, that’s really sucky. I hate it when insurance companies try to weasel out of their responsibilities.
Still deciding what to have for dinner. But I need to get the library first.
I’d be willing to be real money that only people that took the no-longer-offered hard hat tour of Hoover Dam would have any idea what Monel is. Well, them and people that also have 316SS bolts…
**You Made Me Scare My Kitty!!! ** :D:D:D:D:D:D (and it’s a good thing I’d put the water bottle down a few minutes before or you’d owe me a new keyboard
Back from the library. The walk back was extra nice because the moon was full and just in the perfect spot and surrounded by a little haze. You could just about see the man in the moon…
Now I’m home and watching Bye, Bye Birdie. Local best friend and I have an inside joke that everything connects to Ohio. I’d completely forgotten that the little town in the story is, of course, in Ohio. I’d never seen this (1963) version of the movie. Pretty sure I saw the 1995 version when it first aired. Cute movie.
No wonder this week seems so long. It started a day early. Or something.
Monday was a rough day at work. It was time to close the shop down, but there were two more appointments to see. And one of them needed an x-ray. (Actually a “radiograph”, but everyone calls them “x-rays”, even though those’re just the invisible beams that makes the image on the film.) And to take an x-ray we have to actually, you know, set up the machine. (Not like put it together, because it just sits there in the x-ray room when we’re not using it. We don’t strip it down and put it away in a box somewhere.) But we took that x-ray and it showed what was wrong with the dog.
See, a dog’s leg bone should go rather smoothly from their hip to their knee. Sort of from 11 o’clock to 4:30. Not start at 11 o’clock and then head down toward 7, then stop abruptly, only to start up again somehwere else and then continue down to the knee. Technically a leg bone, to do its job nicely, should be continuous, not have a big gap in the length. Gaps in bones are bad.
Tuesday morning we shipped the dog off to another vet to get fixed up. It was for the best.
Yesterday just went on and on. Just people wanting to come in and have us fix whatever the heck was wrong with their pet. It was draining.
But it was Cake Day. So that was nice. And “Cake Day” is just a day where someone brings a cake to work and we eat it. Cake Day is good.
More stuff happened this week. But mostly I forget what it all was. I think it’s a coping mechanism rather than I just don’t pay attention to what goes on around me.
But it could be that whole “not paying attention” thing goin’ on.
Yer pal,
-Rue.
Dorothy that made my day. I was successful earlier in getting cables, but not in getting the TV to act like a big monitor for my computer. Apparently I need a serial cable, or something, I don’t know anymore. I’m going to ask the computer people when I get back up to school, because they should know better than Radio Shack what my computer can do.
Unless y’all terribly smart people have any suggestions.
Yay for Cake Day! Just wait until you all see tomorrow’s Baked Good of the Day … oh man. It’s gonna be awesome. Captain Spacey, signing off for now.
Just got back from work. Manager thinks 11 and a half hours is fine. Woo-hoo! Attacks Husband will owe me big!
I am a hopeless fangirl. I ordered Finding Serenity for myself, and talked the manager into getting a copy for the store. (“It’s about this cult hit tv show called Firefly! Everyone will want it!”). That remeinds me, tomorrow we’re going to forcibly convert another person.
He left December 28th to go out west to fish for cod. He’s been gone 77 days, and we are very happy to see him! Life is bright again!
He was gone for a very long time this fishery. It’s hard sometimes, being married to a fisherman, too often the sea comes first. But you should have seen the jubilant reaction when he walked through the door! The kids went hyper and the dogs followed, it was great to see a whole lot of happy faces where just yesterday there was tension.
kaiwick, that’s fantastic! Did you know in advance when he would be home, or was it a surprise?
spats I’m looking forward to it. Did I miss today’s baked good? I looked for it and couldn’t find it, but I’m on the stupid end of the Doper spectrum, so it’s probably my own fault.
Rue, I love hearing your vet stories. I hope that dog ends up healing well- it must be so hard to see all those animals in pain. I don’t know how you do it, but I’m glad you do.
gardentraveler walks by moonlight are so nice. Did you get anything interesting from the library? Amok does have very interesting etymology- I an’t help but wonder what possible reason anyone could have for going out into the street and killing people. Do they just wake up in the morning and say, “hmm. should i do laundry first, work out, or go on a killing spree?”
rose give that kitty lots of kisses from me to make up for scaring him.
FCM I doubt it’s my gallbladder. A friend of mine has gallbladder issues and I haven’t got any of the symptoms she has, so I’m pretty sure I’m in the clear there.
I actually have my own theory on what’s wrong with me, and it’s nothing bad. I just have to take care not to scare people/get sent home sick when I’m not. I also have to take care to keep up appearances in front of my director. I want to get roles in future plays, too, and I don’t want him to think of me as a liability of any sort.
Hey, Dot, make sure your doc agrees that it’s nothing bad. You don’t want to have something that gets worth when you could have done something early on. [/Mom mode]
I went to pick up Network, which I reserved the other day after reading a thread about it in CS. Realized I had never seen it either and it sounded interesting.
kaiwik, glad he’s home! I remember you talked about him a few weeks back. How long will he be home? Hope you all have a wonderful time together!
rifty - not a clue about the cables, but I’ll bet there’s an answer in GQ. (Of course someone else in here might also know…) Just about every question I’ve had about stuff like that I’ve been able to do a search and find an answer quickly.
Paging taxi…did you see this? Thought about it too late last week. When I looked then, it didn’t look like you’d come across it. Thought it was a good idea…
Why isn’t it Friday yet? I mean, Thursday is close, but it’s not Friday (or, even better, Saturday).[/whine]
Morning all. I am on my way BACK to work for a stoopid inservice re pt safety.
Did you know that pts are more safe if the items they need are within reach? No shit, Sherlock…oy.
And I must be sinking into further mental illness, because this struck me as funny:
All I could think of was the Amoco people of old (located in Chicago), running about the streets of Chi-town, screaming and beating people over the head with gas pump hoses.
Yep-I need meds.
Triple fudge ice cream and cherry pie? An abomination unto God! All it “needs” besides a spoon is a willing mouth. (and nuts–there is nothing nuts don’t make better–go ahead, <snerk> away!).
Work was so awful it defies description, but I have one more shift and 2 more meetings before we depart for our holiday on the Continent. <Snoopy dance here>
Is there such a thing as store made Yorkshire pudding here in the States? Who’d athunk it? Recipe later, if I remember. It’s a hit and miss one–sometimes it’s fantastic and sometimes, meh.
How long did you cook the chicken? It’s been my experience that one hour is usually long enough on the grill. I tend to use low heat and my grill is propane. That way it gets all done and the skin gets crispy. Also, I don’t know if’n I ever mentioned this before or not, a sprig of rosemary or two stuck down in the beer can gives the yard bird a nice flavor. You could also smoosh up some garlic and put it in the can. Lemon or orange slices are also good. Them cookin’ folks on The Food Network ain’t got nuttin’ on me! HAH!
Rue good to hear from ya! No stuff poppin’ out of animal stories? You know how I look forward to those.
kaiwik YAY! Hope he’s there for a while this time.
In other news:
I have to make Irish (well it’s really beef, but we call it Irish, so it is to Irish!) stew for 150 - 175 people tomorrow. See, my church is having its official groundbreaking tomorrow, though some building like stuff has already started, and since it’s St. Patrick’s Day and we are St. Patrick’s Whiskypalian Church, we’re going to have our traditional dinner of corned beef and cabbage, stew (It’s official name is “It’s Irish Stew Because We Say It Is”), colcannon(it’s better than it sounds and cooked collards are used instead of kale in our version), Irish soda bread and some kind of apple crisp stuff that the ladies who make swear is Irish. Usually there is also green beer but since we’re sharing space with the Methodists right now, that’s sorta out cause, well, we’re using their kitchen, hall and all, and I think they kinda frown on having alcohol actually in the church itself. So, we respect that. However, beer is an essential ingredient in the Irish stew (It’s Irish!), so four bottles of Killian’s will make their way in for cooking purposes. So, anyways, I’m shopping for enough ingredients to make stew for a 150 - 175 people tomorrow, tonight. I’m taking tomorrow off so we can get all this stuff cooked. ACBG thinks I’m nuts. Like that was a news flash! Also, like he ain’t gonna be there to eat. HUMPH!
I’m a lot less disappointed than I though I’d be. Of course, as I’ve said all along I’ve got a great job that I’m very happy at (except for the commute), so I’ve got nothing to complain about.
FIL is home from the hospital - they got the infection in his legs cleared up and he’s hopeful that he can get his surgery rescheduled for next week. It’s not like me to cry wolf - I don’t know where my pessimism came from.
To all you people who’ve been wishin it…today IS my Friday.
::slap::
Ow! Hey!
rue, that sounds like a definite surgery to me…with lots of little metal pieces and screws and setch. Sorry you aren’t getting to see nearly enough good healthy little puppies. Speaking of, how’s that little wart of yours?
swampy, you must have one gignormous pot to make that much stew. Anybody know an Irishman’s version of a seven-course meal? Anybody?
::crickets::
A six-pack and a potato. <snerk>
ems, Shakespear was wrong. It’s not the lawyers we must kill first…it’s the insurance companies.
kaiwik, eat more chicken.
So what am I doing with my day off tomorrow? I’m sure you are all waiting to hear with baited breath. Yeah ::cough:: well I’m going to an art festival…a snooty one in Winter Park. I will look for a sculpture piece for the niche in my Master bath but I am not holding out a lot of hope for something affordable.
