Like a Virgin -- The Noob MMP

boofae - good luck job hunting!

After much nashing of teeth last night and being on hold with Cox Cable tech support and dealing with sarcasmo  the home networking technician on the other end of the phone (if I could have reached through the phone and slapped him I would) we finally have working internet with full wireless capability at the house. Yay!

And my company pick-up is finally driveable after they have spent 4 weeks messing with wireing and the company driving monitor that had been installed. Finally yesterday afternoon they got the go ahead to just rip it out and put in a new one and funnily enough it works. So I get to pick that up today as well.

Back to spreadsheets!

Have fun mowing fcm!

snerk I have expanded my Spanish vocabulary. Burrocracia = bullcrap! Well, it looks the same. I doubt that’s a false cognate.

Back in Spain, and we do get it but I have no idea whether any channels currently carry it. My TV viewing is limited both by channel availability and by rarely thinking of actually switching the thing on. At Mom’s I have what’s in her cable package, at home I get TDT (digital open channels), and in the Madrid flat I’m supposed to get TDT as well but I don’t know how to operate the TV-TDTdecoder-VHS combo. These last two weeks (vacation) I’ve been spending a lot of time with my mother, which means I’ve been in a room with the TV on a lot more than usual… for some reason, every single movie she watched (not series) was set at Christmas time. I’m not sure whether that’s just random, someone’s idea of a joke, or intended to help people remember that there is a time of year when you actually need to bundle up.

Now, don’t tell them Scots I was in England or they will glare at you very, very hard.

very sad news - a chorus mate passed away last night.

{{{{Rosie}}}}

How sad, Rosie. :frowning:

Oh, Rosie HUGS That’s awful. What happened?

Three-ish hours - time for a break.

I didn’t mow - the grass was too wet. So I headed to the basement. I swept up a bunch of the dust from FCD’s sanding session yesterday, then moved everything away from the walls and started priming. The walls are just about done - there’s one section that needs to be sanded, and a column that I just haven’t done yet. After I finish eating, I’m going to do the column and the soffit. Then I’ll be done till the sanding is finished.

**FCD **is taking off from tomorrow thru Monday. We should be able to get my studio done and much of the workshop, even with me going to Mom’s on Firday. I may do the riding mowing this afternoon - gotta get it done today or tomorrow because we’re promised a long weekend of rain. I also want to get the carpet in the family room clean - it’s pretty disgusting. Helpful hint - don’t buy light colored carpet if you have critters. You’re welcome.

Lunch is ham-n-swiss on wheat and a tall glass of ice water. I may pour the water over my head…

she hadn’t been feeling well, so she asked another chorus mate to take her to the hospital - she died in the e.r. That’s all I know

**rosie, **I’m sorry about your chorus-mate.

Good luck with the job hunting, BooFae.

**gt, **I would have been a rather grumpy camper this morning had that happened to me.

We have errands to run today, one of which includes getting a new birth certificate for my hubby. He needs that for his CDL, which requires a security clearance.

We also have to find a way to get rid of all the political and real estate signs that someone put all over my son’s car, the yard and bike locked to my daughter’s sweetie’s car sometime between midnight Saturday and 1:00 Sunday morning.

We called the non-emergency number of the sheriff’s department just to be sure we wouldn’t get into any trouble. Today, I’ll call around to the “owners” of the signs and tell them to come get them or they go to the dump. I’m not happy about having to pay to get rid of them if they don’t come get them.

Other than that, we’ll just do things around the house. My daughter came and hung out with us all day yesterday and I made her favorite dinner. I also sent her home with some of the leftovers. Needless to say, we didn’t get much done around the house.

Polar’s limp is a little better today. He’s not 100%, but it’s a significant improvement from yesterday.

Last night, I called my Dad to wish him a happy birthday. I’m worried about him. He’s tired all of the time and it just doesn’t go away. It’s not his heart, that checked out fine. I’m afraid his white count has gone up too high again. He’ll find out next month, and, if that’s the case, I’m sure they’ll put him on chemo again. He has a form of leukemia that is caused by Agent Orange. He’s been dealing with it for years, but it appears to be getting worse.

Well, I should get my butt in gear. The day awaits.

Real estate signs on private property? Yeah, I’d be raising a little bit of hell with the offending agency. Rather than paying to take them to the dump, why not deposit them in front of the RE office? That’s what I’d do. Insanity.

Waiting to mow - my mower’s battery died so I’m giving it a charge. I’ll head out there in a few minutes - it should start by then. rah.

**rosie **- how sad about you friend! :frowning:

Good luck with the job hunt, boofae. And have fun at Beautiful Days.

BTDT on the middle-of-the-night calls, gt. It sucks. And so does the next day.

Tummy is feeling better today, thanks all. And at the moment, the stress feels under control. We’re working our way through a very long to-do list at work, but progress is being made, and right now I’m just waiting to hear back from 3 people on the next step on their 3 different tasks. They’ll probably all come back at the same time. Oh well.

Rosie, That sucks.

Taters, I’m glad Polar’s paw is better, and hope your Dad is feeling better soon too. HUGS

boofae Thank you! And best luck on the job hunt.

Getting the house cleaned today. Woof!

Love to the rest of y’unz.

Lawn is mowed. Sanding is done in the workshop - I’ll sand by hand in my studio. We’re going out to eat.

Yay!

It wasn’t the companies that dumped them. It was obviously a prank. My son had noticed a black pick-up truck with people in t just sitting at the end of our street when he came home around midnight Saturday. He thought it suspicious, but came on in the house. Awhile later, my son got a text from one of our neighbors asking him to call her husband. This was around 1:00 am. The neighbor told him to go outside and that’s when my son found the signs all around and on top of his car. Additionally, they used a bike lock to lock one of the signs to a car in our driveway. There are signs from various political candidates, various real estate companies, and various home businesses.

Hopefully, now that my son is gone, all this type of bullshit will stop.

Ah - it was a joke… That sucks.

We didn’t go out to eat after all. Leftover bean soup sounded better and easier. As tired as I am, easy is definitely better.

Ice cream later.

Condolences on the loss of your chorus-mate, rosie.

Glad to hear your 'tirement is still going strong, Moooooom. I bet the paint will look nice!

Best of luck job hunting, boofae! I hope you have fun and bootiful days.

Today was the 2nd day in a row I grabbed a beer the second I got in the door. It’s been a rare week. Supper tonite was some of that awesome Dietz & Watson “Southern Fried Chicken” lunchmeat on a sandwich with Swiss cheese and mayo. This chicken lunchmeat has the same secret addictive chemical in it as Big Macs and movie-theater popcorn. Good stuff.

The beer is almost done, but it went for a good cause.

Bri2k

**Bri2k **, MmMM. That sounds Nom, where do you buy the stuff & is it expensive?

I’m so sorry, rosie. Hugs.

That’s a nasty prank, Taters. Sillly kids.

Work was non-stop from 7:55 to 5:35. Well, that’s not actually true because I did get a 45-minute lunch, including a walk around the block. But, still, every little gap in my schedule managed to fill itself.

So, I came home, went out to buy beer (the only beer in the house is some stuff that I refuse to drink: light something or other with fake lime flavoring) and then went to the taco truck and got a couple of tacos, beans and rice to bring home and have along with the beer. Everything was yummmmmmmy.

Brick, again, you’re making sandwiches that sound yummy. Guess I’ll have to check out the varieties of Dietz & Watson that my grocery carries. Also, glad I’m not alone in the Big Mac addictive chemical theory. (P.S. Pearl, I think Giant Eagle carries Dietz & Watson in their deli; it’s more expensive than the other deli meat, but worth it at least from time to time.)

Still sleepy. Might need to take a nap before going for a walk.

ETA: Forgot to post link to very funny (I think) video. Improvisation featuring Wayne Brady, among others.

I know I forgot a bunch, but…Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

thank you for the laugh, gt. It’s Whose Line TNG! I want more of that!
