Live Foaling Cam

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

OMG he’s incredibly beautiful!!!

And hey – “his Dam, Donaufahrt vom Shimmelhof, the full sister to Donauwind, the sire of Olympic jumping silver medalist Abdullah.” Was that part of the reason why you chose him?

She keeps heading for the wrong end.

Now she’s trying, although she’s mostly missing. Serenia’s trying to help.

ETF - Well, I just fell in love. He has the most beautiful conformation, and I wrote asking about his personality, and they said he’s a sweetie. And I got the stud fee for $700! He usually goes for $1750.

And mom keeps positioning her self perfectly for the wee thing, but Stella lurches under her belly instead.

Sarenia’s a veteran broodmare; she had foals in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Looks as if they gave her the year off in 2009 (or maybe she didn’t catch; she’s a valuable broodie judging by the quality of her foals so far). Looks like she’ knows her job and does it well.

Huh – hard to see, but it’s possible Stella’s latched on now.

Cool! Did they tell you why they gave you such a deal?

ETA: Oh, wait – I see, you won an auction.

ETF - It was an auction to fund the ATA’s Futurity awards. I was the high bidder.

Having a bedtime snack… both of them.

I wonder whether Sarenia has a dilute gene? Check out her previous foals: One’s a buckskin and another looks a lot like a palomino.

Or maybe not; both pale babies were by a palomino warmblood named Blonder Hans. Currently standing at Heaven’s Gate in Texas.

Snerk. StG, some of those names in Donaufurst’s pedigree are hilarious!

Bramouse, Termit, Tropenglut, Hirtensang, Pusta, Flaneur…

All right! Our little Stella just cavorted!

ETA: Her legs look a lot straighter than Squirmy’s, don’t they?

All right! Stella is definitely nursing now.

Barry has to put his head down to nurse and Stella has to reach way up.

And yet, oddly enough, given their respective breeds, Stella may mature to be taller than Barry.

I missed it. AGAIN!

Well, crap! I missed it because I was watching WVU (my alma mater) get stomped by Duke with Renee, her husband and all the pooches. Thanks for the PM, ETF. Stella is precious! Although it doesn’t look like she quite has the hang of nursing yet. She keeps heading for the wrong end.

StG, the future sire is stunning! When will Nakota be impregnated?

China’s cam is up but they have a four cam thing going on and everything is too small to see. (Although you can still see China’s poop…)

Surly Chick - Thanks - I hope the baby combines the best of both parents. I’m sending her to the vet in three weeks, and she’ll be inseminated at her next heat. Hopefully it’ll take the first try. Because this is frozen semen, the vet will wait until she develops a large follicle on her ovary. When she gets close, the vet starts doing ultrasounds every 4 hours until the optimum moment. I should know 24 days after breeding if she’s in foal.

Linkypoos:

China

Mandy

Sarenia

ETA: Mandy’s back up, and Barry’s back in his Black Watch blankie.

Does anyone else think those mini mares look like so many beach balls on pegs?

That Barry is pretty brutal on poor Mandy when he’s nursing. He wants his milk and he wants it now, dammit!

Both he and Stella are nursing.

Actually I kind of wonder if Barry is getting any milk right now. He keeps jabbing at the (udder? bag? teat?) and then stops right away and then does the same thing again.

3 am at Mandy’s, large lady is cleaning stall, Barry is fritzing about.

3 am at Sarenia’s, Stella is nursing.

12 am at China’s, various mini horses are standing, eating or laying down.
