Out. Damn, that was a hard birth. Looks like some of the hind legs still aren’t completely out but Velvet is wiped out.
Oh, crap. Just read this opening message at MS in the Velvet thread, posted on the 27th:
It’s hard to make out, because they’re mostly off-screen at the bottom of the cam, but I’ved seen motion in the foal. Velvet’s still lying down.
Ah, she just got up. Foal out at 3:33; it’s now 3:39. Velvet’s licking her baby, which is definitely moving. It’s 311 days, which may be close enough to the 320 minimum mark to make it. Fingers crossed!*
- Which is why I’ve had even more typos than usual to correct.
It’s a filly! Looks like, if there’s any white at all, it’s a very tiny star.
Well bloody hell. The Centaur cam is off now so I can’t look in on Velvet and see how her filly’s doing.
Crap. Maybe I’m worrying unduly, but I just checked the Centaur website’s mares page. It lists all the foaling mares, and for all the ones that have given birth so far there’s either colt or filly next to the mare’s name. There’s nothing listed next to Velvet’s name. The cam’s still not operating either.
Crap.
ETA!!! Just went back to the MS thread and for the first time looked at page two, where I found this, posted on the 28th:
So maybe everything is all right after all. I hope the cam will be working later today or tonight so I can see that filly.
Tory at Night Sky may be on the verge of foaling.
Tory is still on the verge but not toppling over. Skye at Elements continues to drive her humans mad with frustration. Emerald has a mare on now that’s supposed to be really close. Premier Friesians is quoting a Transcendentalist philosopher: “Adopt the pace of nature. Her secret is patience-Ralph Waldo Emerson”.
And Centaur Farm is finally listing a filly for Velvet, so that’s all right then.
Well Tory is lying down and a human in watching her. Don’t know if anything is going on though.
I am very happy Velvet’s filly at Centaur is ok.
There’s a new mare on the True Colours cam now. Looks like it’s the one called American Iris. The feed is better than it was for Pearl – which isn’t saying much, it’s true, but at least yuo can see mroe of the stall and mare, and it’s not quite so blurry and dim.
Night Sky, Premier Friesians, Glenhill cam 3 and Pacific Pintos all have mares that ought to be foaling very soon.
Witt’s pinto mare finally foaled and the filly had a bad couple of days not getting enough milk from the mare to thrive, had to be on IV fluids, but it appears all is well now.
I keep waiting for that mare on Silver Creek 2 to foal and she keeps refusing to show any signs of complying.
I finally figured out why some cams work for me and others demand a plug-in – the ones in the live cam list with an “F” among the symbols are Flash-based and work with my computers’ system; the ones requiring a plug-in are based on some software I don’t have.
ETA: Skye had a palomino filly. I missed it, of course.
Abyss at Pacific Pintos looks like she’s right about to pop!
ETA: Joanne’s in with her. Abyss is a maiden and doesn’t now what the heck is happening to her.
Oh…oh…oh… that was a rough birth. When Mama Mare wasn’t moving I thought…
Never mind that. She’s moving and nuzzling her perfectly DARLING little pinto baby!
melt
Don’t forget Shadow, who is lopsided and enormous.
Just posted on Mare Stare board:
she doesn’t seem to want to let him nurse…
Well, she’s a maiden, and I don’t think she knows what she’s supposed to do next.
He’s a determined little thing tho, isn’t he?? “c’mon Mom! I’m HUNGRY!!”
Hahahahaha oh yeh, he knows he wants into that milk bar but he just can’t quite find the door yet.
Abyss’s foal is Pacific Peppermint Twist – Twister for short.
