My children convinced me to make desks got them. I like woodworking, but I’m also a lazy SOB, so someone or something has to four the issue.
force the issue
Damn autocorrect
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Double shift today.
Happy Saturday!
Woke at 4:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep.
It sucks.
It’s a cloudy 34 degrees outside, no snow yet.
I am up and ready to go out to get some kitty pill pockets and some other kind of soft treats.
Adam is getting a bit grumpy.
According to my phone app, it’s warming up a bit so we may have more rain than snow.
Nothing else special planned for the day.
I agree! When I use my table, it keeps changing **FCD **to FWD. NOT amused!!!
Someone left a box of Bigelowe “salted caramel” teabags in the break room, so I thought I’d try one. Just brewed it up. It smells like caramel, but it tastes… odd… Now I see why it was left in the break room.
Roxy woke screaming in the middle of the night -* starving!!!* Of course, it woke me, then it took a bit to fall back to sleep. Ergo, I slept till I heard SIL letting Cozmo out around 7:30. They’re all sleeping now and having tended Higgs and the cats, I’m awake. Which is fine - I shouldn’t get used to sleeping late anyway. Not till I retire.
Rain is supposed to move in this afternoon and continue all night and into tomorrow. I’ll run to Food Lion before it all starts, but other than that, no plans to leave the homestead. After all, it’s laundry day and clean the critter fountain day! ![]()
Happy Saturday!!
Awake, dog walked and it’s back to bed for me. Ahhh weekend.
Capn Carl (we need to get you a Mumper name), come on over for supper! This always makes a big batch. A lot of times, I’ll only do up half of the filling for this time and freeze the other half for a lower effort meal down the road.
flytrap, bake up a couple of sweet potatoes, peel and mash them up. Add a can’s worth of rinsed and drained black beans, a quarter cup of queso blanco, a chopped jalapeno, some garlic, onion, cumin, a 4 oz. can of green chilis and chopped cilantro. Roll about a quarter cup of the filling into each corn tortilla and put into a flat oblong casserole dish. Top with the salsa verde and some mozzerella (I mix this with queso blanco because it melts more nicely) and bake at 350F until brown and bubbly (about 45 minutes). It’s a good vegetarian main dish if you are having vegetarians or guests who keep kosher in for dinner.
TB, my dad made a desk for me when I was a kid. I passed it down to my stepdaughter when she started school. He also made a pencil box for each of us kids and doll beds for each of us girls. He still makes kids’ building blocks, complete with arches and other fun elements (I have a set that I still get out now and again at 56 years old
) that he gives as gifts and to preschools and kindergarten classes. Your efforts will mean a lot to your kids.
Up, breakfasted, caffeinating, a load of towels in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and getting ready to do KP before purtifying to go get the oil changed. It’s another rainy day, so much so that 20 feet in front of my apartment where the ground is sloped down, we have the beginning of a lake.
Morning all. Still here in (rainy) Ali-bama. Talked to SIL and Niece yesterday evening and Brudder is doing much better, his speech is improving and it looks like the stroke was minor and very localized. With the kids (and their dogs) at home, SIL and I agreed it probably would be better for me to wait until he’s out of the hospital and then come up to give her some help once he’s home (don’t know what the restrictions will be). Hope to talk with him today. Much thanks to all for your concern.
This has got me to thinking about getting one of those ‘old people’ alarm systems, like you see advertised on TV. The wife of my late uncle had one after he died and she showed it off whenever I went to visit. Living alone like I do, and after this, I’m beginning to think it’s a good idea to look into…
OK, enough introspection for one day. Rain looks like it’ll last all day, so probably will stay cooped up unless required. All y’all take care.
**MetalMouse **- if not one of those monitor alarms, at least a cell phone that you keep on you. But I agree you need something just in case, geezer that you are.
OK, I’ve breakfasted. Time to shower and start choreage. ugh.
Over 6 inches of snow during the night. It seems to be winding down. I canceled my riding lesson for this morning. I won’t be leaving the house. A good day to clean and watch the Australian Open. The downstairs has been tidied and vacuumed and the kitchen floor washed. I live alone and sometimes think I should get an emergency alert thing. I’m all about safety.
How fancy are they looking for? If we’re talking a basic computer-style desk go mass production and make 4 identical with interchangeable parts. If we’re talking slightly fancier go with a planters desk.
Its around 34 and really gloomy. Everyone is expecting inches and inches of snow; my prediction is freezing rain, some snow and then more freezing rain. I have coffee on and plan to bunker in until 10:30AM Monday. (I’m doubling Monday and Tuesday)
Snowing and sticking in Fort Smith of Rooster Cogburn fame, but that us 150 miles away. 50F yesterday, 29F tonight.
Back from grocerying - first load in the washer, and **FCD **and I started a fire in the basement fireplace to take a chill off down there. And I’m eating some peanuts. Good times…
On Sunday, the alarm on portable talking & interwebz device was set for 4:25 am (). It was turned off but apparently not disabled. Since it was set for “Weekend” I was awakened waaaay too early this moaning. Disabled it & rolled back over for a while. Got up too late to do that other race (that I wasn’t sure I wanted to do anyway) so after brekkie I took a nap. Gonna go do some hiking & Urbexing before the storm comes in.
That’s horrible! ![]()
The Pill Pockets worked, we’ll see for how long. I think we’ll cut them in half so he eats it in one bite. and maybe he’ll never notice the pill inside.
Ripple doesn’t like Pet’sMart. I wanted to buy him a new toy, but he wasn’t happy, so I got the cat stuff and left.
I made fake crab salad today because the pack of fake crab meat was supposed to be used by Thorsday. So crab salad for lunch and cabbage soup for dinner.
I glad your brother is doing better MetalMouse.
Probably a good idea to get some kind of alert thingie. My friend’s FIL almost died when he fell and hit his head. He lived alone and it was several days before his family got a neighbor to go check on him. He was laying where he fell and in pretty bad shape by the time he got help.
Still no snow, or rain, here.
I think I’m ready for a nap.
As long as you aren’t eating circus peanuts!
My great-grandfather loved circus peanuts.
Whenever we went to visit him, circus peanuts and RC Cola.
I get queasy just thinking about it.
What’s wrong with circus peanuts?
We have !@#$% snow.
dammit
It took me a little while to get used to sleeping in. 2 or 3 days, as I recall. ![]()
Gonna go to the store in a bit and see if I can find some Spanish style chorizo. The kind with paprika in it. If I can find some I’m gonna have a go at that white bean and kale soup we had last wed.
Did I tell you Wifey is on weight watchers again? Makes it really hard to cook around here as 90% of the recipes stored in my head aren’t at all weight watcher friendly.
The mobile alarm just signaled that the mail is here.
Y’all have a nice satidday.
Just don’t be like my Grandpa- took the family ages to talk him into getting one, then once he had, he used it as a magic ‘summon offspring’ button. The most notable occasion was the time he was unable to find a pair of jeans at 11pm. I mean, he was wearing a pair, but he couldn’t find the other ones… My sorta-cousin actually checked out of work as a family emergency to go ‘rescue’ him, and even nobly refrained from attempting strangulation when he found out what the ‘emergency’ was.
The family also took a year to talk him into getting a mobility scooter, then realised the error after the second time he was brought back by the police for dangerous driving, down the middle of a highway, but I digress… ![]()
Anyway, I have a work Christmas party tomorrow. I’m being good; though there’s a free bar (the owners of the holiday cottages also own the pub where we’re going), I’m driving myself plus one of the other staff who lives round the corner from me, so’s she can drink, but I can’t. assumes noble pose
