Looking towards spring in the MMP

Back home. All the tests were neg, but they sent a swab to an outside lab. Meanwhile, her temp is normal and she’s watching TV. The disgusting diaper has been changed. I’m exhausted and it’s not even 10!!

How did filling his diaper set off the car alarm? :poop:

Miss Owl - only related in that he was responsible for both. I used the key fob to lock the doors and he opened one. Twice. It was a challenge to turn off the alarm. Stoopit car/

We drove from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela when we lived in Portugal. The north of Portugal is picturesque, as is that area of Spain.

I love the region!

We had a nice pot roast supper and the blueberry sour cream coffee cake was really good.[/quote]
Omgosh, I’m jealous.Hubs made chipped beef on toast (tasted a bit like cardboard; it was his mother’s recipe) and for dessert a Cranberry Orange cookie. Never had blueberry sour cream coffee cake but it sounds delicious.

I frequently do the same. Hoping to engage more in 2023.

Never made it to the Fitness Center yesterday so resolved to get up early today. When the alarm went off at 5:20, I turned it off and thought about waiting until tomorrow but since I was wide awake and need to use the facilities, I got up, got dressed, had a blueberry bagel w/ cream cheese and went to the Fitness Center. Used 3 machines for an hours worth then drove to the auto dealer service center as my Ford Fusion had been recalled to replace the shifter cable bushing. Everyone is very pleasant and professional there. I asked how much to replace the battery in my key fob and was told $5 but after the service rep replaced it, he didn’t charge me anything and also got my car in the queue ahead of some others so I was out of there in less than an hour. Heated some chicky noodle soup when I got home as I was a bit chilled from driving home in the 17* weather. Will bake some leftover pasta with spag sauce and mozzarella on top for dinner.

Have a good day.

Afternoon all.

Well, that didn’t go as planned. I was supposed to meet my transportation at the hotel between 9-9:30am for a 6-hour half-day tour of Buenos Aires. However, they never showed up {I waited until 10:30) and calls by both me and the hotel desk were not answered. Got through to the tour agency (Viatour, part of TripAdvisor) and they are refunding my money, so that is nice. Had a leisurely lunch and a short walk (not much around here and the new-and expensive looking–housing they are building are surrounded by a 8-ft fence topped by 4 strands of barbed wire, so perhaps not a real friendly place. Still the hotel is nice and it is pouring rain outside right now, so maybe things did work out for the best…have checked in on-line for tomorrow’s flight southward, at least it is from the next-door airport (Buenos Aires has 2 airports about 25 miles apart) so that should be no problem. (crosses fingers).

Cat Glove, I’m already missing my gym at home. Nice of the delaership to help out on the Fob battery…I buy mine at the local Batteries and Bulbs store.

Suzie, Cookie, never been to Portugal and Spain, they are definitely on the bucket list.

FCM, glad Roxy is doing better and at least Toby’s intestines are healthy…

God Bod, we don’t take attendance here; visit when you can and talk when you want to. We’ll know who you are.

Taters, moving away from Loud Boss is a good idea; why some of them love meetings so was always a great mystery to me. Good luck on getting staffing.

FCM, that’s sort of sad about BIL, but after 6 decades of it I can understand FCD’s view on it. Hope the bump on the head isn’t to bad.

lacunaematata (darn if I can remember you MMP name). Would love to see pics of those two dogs, they sound like a handful…but filled with love. And hey, I live in Alabama (non-native), so easy on the jokes!! :grinning: :grinning:  Love the story about Dad and the his crush on the visiting helth person.

JtC, I learned laundry when I was pretty much on my own in my mid-20’s. Learned quickly not to wash white underwear with red sweatshirts… And sorry about the housekeepers’ woes, had she brought any anti-seasick stuff with her or was it something else?

Nettie, they must have had a spare box and the boss said “just use it on the next order, I don’t care what it is…”

OK, sort of caught up, so take care all and I’ll do some more internettin’ here.

Got a bill from the periodontist in my email. Wait a sec… I pay my part at their office. So I called them and my insurance didn’t pay for the visits. Why? Because they had billed for the upper quadrant on one side and the lower quadrant on the other side one day, and vice versa the second visit. Since the visits were billed for different sides of my face, the insurance company didn’t pay them. I was going to ask them to fix it and re-bill the insurance company; but before I could ask that, she said they’d just write it off. She did, and sent me a .pdf receipt.

I have a .pdf of the recipe I will message to anyone who wants it.

Tobias napped on me for almost 2 hours. Roxy is currently sleeping on my recliner - her fever still hasn’t gone. FCD will be home soon and we’ll go together to take the kids and HIggs, then he and I will go out to supper. We’ll pack when we get home.

Can’t believe we’re finally getting to get away…

nona, I really hope the husband unit’s tests go okay.

FCD, I’m sorry to hear about the Rox-star. I hope she feels better soon.

I found out Monday my brain is still working, which is nice to know. Not much going on in overly-ville. Kids are headed to the orthodontist this afternoon and overlyhusband is taking them, which means I’ll get to wander around the house on meetings, yakking as loud as I want and banging about while making coffee. It’s the little things.

This weekend is swim-a-palooza for overlygirl. Friday night, Saturday morning will be all swim, all the time. Tonigh I’m taking the mom unit on an odyessy to Costco. Wish us luck - that place is a black hole of appliances, electronics & food. We may never leave.

It’s sunny here, so I’m glad I have quite a bit of walking to do. My daughter’s sister-in-law and SIL’s partner, who moved her last week, are coming for dinner on Saturday. They’re vegan, so I’m planning on making red lentil soup (I dislike all legumes except peanuts, but lentils are the least ick, and I’m working on getting better about this), bread, and apple whiskey cake for dessert. I’m also almost out of items I need, so I may do a grocery trip AND an Instacart delivery. We’ll see.

My ear-sinus crud is still with me, so I called urgent care this morning to tell doc to order the second antibiotic she wanted to try. Honestly, I’m not convinced the infection is the whole story. I have a nagging feeling I’m going to have to see an ENT. I hope I’m wrong.

I head to Seattle tomorrow for a doctor’s appointment. Normally I’d meet my son and DIL for lunch, but they’re in deep mourning for their late pupper, so I’ll fill in the time before and after some other way.

My daughter got a second interview for the job she applied for, so that’s encouraging. She still likes the old job, but as I’ve said, she’s outgrown it and needs a higher salary.

MetalMouse, bummer about the tour, though as you say, a tour in the rain wouldn’t be much fun. I’m really excited about your cruise and can’t wait to get reports! I hope everything goes smoothly.

doggio, I want to reach back through time and snuggle Nelly K. Beagle. She looks like she was an excellent snuggler.

Taters, the SD’s proposal for coping with the hiring pause/staffing crisis reminds me of a Golden Book called Hiram’s Red Shirt. Hiram rips the elbow of his shirt, which he patches with a piece from his cuffs (or something), which he patches with his shirttail, and so on. “A little from here makes a little for there,” he keeps saying. (Can you tell I had to read this book to my kids a few squillion times?) I’m betting your SD is going to realize, as Hiram did, that this system doesn’t work.

Hope you get a quieter office!

FCM, hope Roxy is soon on the mend and that Tobias fends off the germs–and that you do, too! Also, FCD is wise to refuse to continue Project Brother. It’s a sad mess, but it’s not a sad mess FCD can fix.

JtC: I imagine BooFae got a good chuckle out of the responses to your use of the British “Bob’s your uncle.” I can’t wait to tell my daughter about GG learning at long last and then forgetting how to open doors. She’ll love it! She tells your GG stories to her nebelung, who thinks (using the term loosely) that GG is a genius.

GodBod, we’re always happy to see you. Just bring a note from your mom. (jk)

Seanette, my department used to get school supplies from a company that would ship one ballpoint pen in a 10x12x12" box. You’d order enough items to fill up a box, including a pack of 12 pens, and then apparently someone would realize, “Oh, no! Only 11 pens in that box!”

wordy, at least that black hole offers free samples! Also no spaghettification (my favorite scientific term)!

Howdy Y’all! Been a very slothful even by our standards day here at da cave. I even commented that we seem to be even more useless than usual today. Oh well, we are retired. We shall head out shortly for some Mexican comestibles. I know we just had tacos on Tuesday, but the gnawin’ and cravin’ for Mexican is strong today!

That’s my new favorite, too!

Happy Thursday!

Chilly 25 degrees at the park this morning. Not too terrible as there was no wind.
It’s 40 out now, so not too bad of a day.

Ripple had the best time. Usually, he does his patrol and comes back to hang out near me. We were there for an hour and a half, and I had to keep looking for him. It’s been so long, so I guess he had to make up for lost time.
He is so frisky and so happy, it’s hard to believe he is dying.
Cerby almost bit somebody as we were leaving the park. He snapped at two people walking past us, but missed the man’s arm.

The visit with the oncologist was not good. Ripple’s MCT is Type III, very aggressive, and has already spread. The lymph nodes near the tumor are 10x their normal size.
He has 4-6 months.
We have options of three different drugs to try.
My son wanted to do all of them, to the tune of $4000/month.
I said we will definitely do Prednisone. That is not a lot of money and doesn’t have a lot of serious side effects. We are going to try Palladia. That is a pill we can give him at home, but it only works if it is a certain type of MCT. My son wanted to do the test, the oncologist said to just try it and if it appears to be working, then we’ll stick with it. The side effects can be pretty bad, but if Ripple tolerates it well and if it helps, we’ll do it.
The other drug is super expensive, and intravenous, and has strong side effects. We’d have to add in the cost of weekly (at first) visits, and more importantly, the stress it’ll put on Ripple. He will have to be sedated.
None of these options will cure him, they are simply buying time.
I asked the oncologist what he would do, and he said he thinks my choice is the best option, because Ripple is still fairly young. If Ripple were older, he would just do the Prednisone and keep Ripple comfortable until the end.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, because if you saw Ripple, you would think there was nothing wrong with him.
I already belonged to a Shar Pei health group on FB, and joined another group for Holistic MCT Information.
More medical information than I can handle at this point.
Some people regret putting their dogs through chemo and if they could do it again, they would just make their dogs comfortable until the end. Others have dogs that were given a few months, and years later they are going strong.
We’re going to be switching Ripple to a home cooked diet, but if he still wants to nibble at the kibble, we’ll let him.
I am making a grocery list and researching what supplements and minerals he’ll need.
I’m also going to look for low histamine foods. The oncologist says it won’t make a difference, it is probably woo, but it’s not going to hurt anything, so why not?
I won’t cook for myself, but I’ll cook for him. I bitch about driving to PT twice a week, but I’ll happily drive over an hour to the oncologist for him.

I have to give credit to Barky/Humpy Mom. I got lost on the way down and she helped me find my way, or tried to. I ended up calling the receptionist and she talked me in. BH Mom’s husband is a truck driver in that area and he said it is a mess trying to find anything there. It’s very confusing, even though the directions are straight forward.
Since I was late getting there, I was late getting out and wasn’t going to make it home in time to pick up Echo and Cerby from daycare. Barky/Humpy Mom was there getting her dogs and she said she’d pick up mine too and wait in the parking lot for me, even though she is a bit leery of Cerby. She told the daycare I was on my way and she would take my dogs for me, but the daycare said it was okay because they were staying open late for an event. BH Mom waited until we got there anyway, only 10 minutes late. I need to send the daycare and BH Mom a thank you.

And I want to give a BIG one finger salute to Unemployment.
Tomorrow is one year that my son got laid off. He has gotten three of his ten checks, the other seven have been put on hold. I don’t understand the reason, but his employer has to verify the dates, AGAIN.
Whatever, that is the problem with government stuff, if you get bad service, you can’t go to a competitor.

I wanted to add
My super shy son, who never speaks, sure spoke up in the oncologist’s office. He asked a lot of questions.
When we were leaving, my son had already gone out to the truck and the receptionist asked who was driving. I said I was because my son still doesn’t have his license. I said he is so very shy and she said she could tell. She asked the dr how my son did (I have no idea why) and the dr said my son asked a lot of very intelligent questions.
I told my son and that made him happy.
Then he asked me what questions were intelligent, and I had no idea how to answer, because honestly, if I hadn’t taken notes I couldn’t tell you a damn thing that was said.

Awwww! What a sweet dog!

That’s a big wow.

You can’t stay drunk all day unless you start in the morning.

It’s better cheddar than I can make, damnit. I am still missing something which is really frustrating. Women used to make the stuff on a wood burning stove. I have all sorts of fancy tools, it should be a very simple process. At least my failures are edible now.

I have sympathy for you, but every time I read your posts, I am reminded how happy I am to be a retired government worker.

She caught Covid which turned into pneumonia and was pretty sick for a while. Her sister lives in California and was able to pick her up at the dock? port? terminal? (wherever it is that the passengers are released) and housekeeper spent a couple of weeks recovering at her sister’s place. That was probably pretty smart because her sister lives alone and our housekeeper has her son, DIL and three grandkids living with her in a place not much bigger than ours.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to go on your tour, I hope that will be the worst part of your trip! Have a safe flight and take lots of pics.

It’s British? Who’d a thunk it? Dad used to say that when he was showing us kids something, I wonder where he picked it up.

My BFF was over yesterday and wanted to see what I was working on. She gave the pillow propped door a sideways look, but didn’t ask cause she just assumed it had something to do with GG.

I am so sorry. I hope he Ripple stays frisky and happy until that horrible day comes.

Good for your son for speaking up about something important.

The sun is out and it’s almost warm outside. GG has spent most of the day in the catio so the yard flock got extra food because he likes the motion. VBC would rather spend her day laying somewhere in arm’s reach for the scritching.

Today, a breakthrough happened aat Casa Doe. About ten years ago, we had a horrible time with the IRS seizing all of our assets and when we got everything back, hubs determined that we needed ten grand cash in the gun safe. While I agreed on the need for stashing cash, I thought ten grand was excessive.

About that same time, I put ten grand into the stock market and started pretending to be a high-powered day trader. I’m not very good at it though, I get too nervous when the stocks get too high and pull money out and put it in other places. I was all about those 9 percent interest savings bonds last year.

Today Hubs was working on our taxes and took a good look at my taxable income and realized that my “hobby” investments were making real money while his investment lost value. Today he took 7 grand out of the safe and turned it into a short term high interest savings account. I am very proud of him.

Dammit, Sari, that’s terrible news. I was so hopeful that Ripple would be able to beat this thing. I feel even sorrier for you than for him. It’s a blessing that dogs live for the right-now. Hopefully Ripple has many happy right-nows ahead. Also, kudos to your son for speaking up and asking intelligent questions.

Um…the British? I only say it with a (very bad) Cockney accent, because to me, it sounds weird with an American accent. Not that I’ve been to any part of the UK. I picked it up from books and British TV.

{{{sari}}} - so sorry to hear about Ripple. I hope you can find something to help.

Roxy fevered up to 103 this afternoon and she got her dose of tylenol. By the time we got her home, she was rasslin’ with her brother and giggling up a storm. No idea what’s up with her - it’s so weird. But SIL is off tomorrow so she won’t have to leave the house. And Daughter picked up her antibiotics - just in case it turns out to be an infection. So we’ll see…

We left HIggs there, too, then went to Texas Roadhouse for supper. Home again and we’re packed, except for the toiletries we’ll need in the morning. On the way, we’ll drop off my car for a brake job - with luck, it’ll be done when we come back on Moanday.

Other than that, just a quiet - VERY QUIET evening at home.

Thoughts while heaving:
Colonguard customers :point_down:cats
…Pooping in a box

You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. :beers:

She was. But her snore sounded like a running chainsaw being jammed into a running garbage disposal.

{{{{sari and Ripple}}}}

Oh, no, I got that, LOL! It is just really surprising that Dad would say it. He wasn’t much of a reader and he wasn’t well educated. The only foreign country he was Korea and that doesn’t sound like the sort of place for him to pick it up. I asked mom and she remembered him saying it, but didn’t know where he got it.

I was looking around and noticed that I didn’t see any of GG’s fuzzy balls. I started looking for them and got hubs involved. Unless they are all under the stove, GG has found a really good hiding place. I knew I should have asked hubs to pick some up while he was in town. Hubs did get a handful of ones for me which was thoughtful. Hopefully I won’t forget them again, yesterday I resorted to digging through my car change for two bucks in quarters and the change was sooooo cold I had problems counting it.
