Looking towards spring in the MMP

Buenos tardes metal mouse!

I envy your guv’mint cheese JtC.

{{{sari and ripple}}} You haven’t had nearly enough time with him.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, fixed a poke steak, rice and collards for supper. Given that my BG was pretty low before supper, I may load Nelson in the car and go pick up a cookie before it freezes up again.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! We went for Mexican comestibles and are both very full. OYKW also had a biiiiiiiig margarita and I played the role of DD. We got back to da cave just before a big rain. Now it’s rainin’ off and on. Good to be inside, dry, full, and chill!

{{{sari}}} I am so sorry for the news about Ripple. I know that whatever time he has left will be full of happiness, joy, love, trips to the park, and many skritches. Good on your son for askin’ a lot of intelligent questions today! Also great of Barky/Humpy mom to come through like that.

Given that today is Groundhog Day, we went with sausage biscuits for dinner (pork sausage, of course).

Whatever bureaucratic BS put DH’s project on hold is ongoing, and does affect other company projects. Earliest any of the affected are going back to irk is the 13th, could also be the 20th.

I’m hearing from a friend who left the US and is now living in the south of Portugal. He says the restaurants have gotten much better. When I lived there, the food up north and to the east was better, as it had some Spanish influence. Restaurants in Lisbon were uniformly poor at that time.

This reminds me of when my daughter got too old for pacifiers. I threw away several. The next day, she appeared with a binky in her mouth. I distracted her and pitched it. This kept happening for weeks, as she’d apparently heard of an impending worldwide binky shortage and had stashed them everywhere. (Yes, she had many pacifiers. People attached them to baby gifts, so she had 22 before she was even born.) Several years later, we moved, and I found one behind my antique vanity.

Her older brother never liked pacifiers. I wonder why some babies like them, and some don’t.

I was waiting at a major intersection on my way to the store when this guy pulled up on a bike. I had headphones on, but that didn’t deter him from talking to me. He just got his bike back from the repair shop. He’d really missed his bike, because bicycling is who he is, ya know? Watch out! He’s 50, and he’s a wild man on a bike! I told him to be a safe wild man because drivers hate pedestrians and bicyclists, and he said, “Yeah. that’s why my bike was in for repairs. I got hit right here.” (Gestures toward intersection. See what you guys miss by being in cars? :joy:

{{{sari}}}, I’m so sorry.

I surely do wish that everyone had access to a surplus program like we do. It helps our food budget and forces us to eat healthier and it is good for the community and the environment as well.

We never have enough time with them. Ever.

We found a grocery store bag stuffed full of broccoli florets in our produce box yesterday and today I blanched them for freezing. It’s a good thing we both like broccoli cause we are going to be eating it for a while. While I was doing that I was watching the whey dripping out of my cheese press and damnit, it was dripping way too fast and I already know I screwed it up again. Damnit!

I think that tomorrow I will console myself by making a nice Caerphilly that I can open the same time I cut into the Cheddar.

For those who were dying to know, I bought a thrift store crock pot for melting the wax which I just leave in the pot. A crockpot full of hardened cheese wax takes about 3 hours on low to fully melt. You have now learned something today, LOL!

Nope.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Morning all. Awake and need to pack out for the 9am shuttle to the airport for my flight to Ushuaia (you can look it up in Goggle maps). Spend a day there (hopefully the tour I booked there is a little more efficient) and then board the ship on the 5th for 12 days at sea. Do not know if I’ll have internet connections there, it is a bit distant from things, but we’ll see. If you don’t hear from me until the 18th, don’t worry.

Argentina is famous for its steaks so I had one last night at the hotel’s fancy restaurant, huge sirloin and more fries than even I could eat, cost about $35USD but well worth it. Was only customer in there from 7-8pm, don’t know if Argentines eat later or the place is just not advertised well (it requires a walk around the building and is not well-marked).

{{{Sari&Ripple}}}. Whatever happens in the end, he will have been well-loved and given equal amounts of love back. And nice of your son to speak up, he really does care about things close to him.

JtC, thank you for the mundane and pointless information on crock pot melting, you are living up to this forum’s goals!!! :grinning: :grinning: And good job on the investing. My sympathies to the houseworker, that sounds like a miserable way to spend a vacation.

FCM, Hope Roxy gets to feeling better.

{{nellie}}, hope that ear crud goes away soon.

flyboy, that’s pretty nice from the periodontist. And insurance shouldn’t care about that, both sides of your face are yours, aren’t they?

OK, have broken fast (ham sammich and Pepsi Zero I got last night from the Shell station next door, hey, living it up here). Will see what the internet is like in Ushuaia. Take care all.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 60 with rain through late mornin’ and then who knows. The big item on today’s agenda is to take care of candle duty. I shall wait until the rain is gone, so late this mornin’ I hope. We may or may not grab some foodstuffs out. If not, the need to feed today will be taken care of via forage as there are some leftovers that need to get et up and also plenty of stuff for sammich makin’.

MetalMouse hope you get your tour of Ushuaia today. Enjoy!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Good morning everyone. 29.5F outside (and yes, my new weather station reports in tenths of degrees – accuracy is important when deciding which coat to wear). Supposed to finally get above freezing (47F) here in Tejas, and it should melt the remaining ice off of everything. Looking forward to climbing temps all week, and probably in the 60s in a few days.

{sari}, sorry to hear about Ripple. I have at least some idea of what you’re going through, given the events of the past two years (we’ve gone from 2 dogs to none).

Yesterday I finally went back to PT. I’m feeling almost 100% over the plague, and I was energized enough to spend 45 minutes chipping away at an ice block shaped vaguely like my car. I forgot how miserable it is to chip and scrape and heat and brush in order to drive away – and I’ll remember this when I’m complaining about the heat here in July.

My appointment at the mechanic’s to get steps/running-boards installed on the new truck was cancelled. They were a week behind due to the ice storm here, and we’ll try to reschedule for next week. I’ve selected a very un-pretty version that has steps resembling upside down crampons. I really want to guard against slipping and don’t have any plans to drive the truck barefoot (these would actually be painful to bare feet). I know I said I’d look for a pro to re-install the crane, but they’re all backed up and it would take too long. So we’ll tackle it again when the pavement is dry enough to lie on. The warmer temps combined with a cushion should make this more tolerable for us. I’ll try to use my grinder and torch to reshape the bracing brackets today (in a relatively warm and dry garage). I may tackle the hole drilling again too. My drill bit melted last week while working on this, so I bought a much tougher one to finish. A lot of that stuff underneath is stronger than it looks. Hopefully I won’t drill through something important and end up like this guy.

Hope everyone has a good remainder of the week.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 35 degrees with an expected high of 50. Rain is supposed to start falling around 11:00 this morning.

sari, I am sorry about Ripple. I know you will make his last days happy, warm, and comfortable.

Enjoy your trip, FCM!

Hope the tour and all go well today, Metal Mouse.

nellie, to be fair to the SD; she knows temporary promotions are a poor band-aid, but we need someone in those AD roles. It’s a double-edged sword and we haven’t quite decided what we’ll do.

I am glad it’s Friday. The week has been long.

I hope you all have a great day!

Roxy and Tobias both used them occasionally. I find it hilarious when he feels around for his when he’s asleep - my daughter crocheted some lanyards that clip on to his shirt, so he’s always got one at hand. My mom hates them with a passion - she used to give me grief when my daughter used them. Too bad - while I wouldn’t want a 4-y/o walking around sucking on one, I see no harm in a toddler using one for comfort. Roxy tired of hers, and I expect her brother will, too. Tho neither one hides them!

Submit that to Jeopardy - it’s a great stumper!

Ask me why I lurve my garage!!!

At the risk of sounding cold, it was great to be able to slug about in bed and not have to get up to let the dog out. And I get to do that thru Moanday!!! I didn’t get up till after 7!!

We got mostly packed last night. This morning it’ll mainly be the toiletries we use today, plus a few food items. There was a slight panic last night when we couldn’t find FCD’s swimsuit, but I found his old one. So crisis averted. Tho the missing one is a mystery.

On the way, we’ll drop off my car to get the brakes done. First stop on the other side of the bay will be St. Michael’s and the Maritime Museum. Then on to Cambridge for lunch before heading to OC. I saw this morning that they upgraded our room to ocean view - woohoo!!

Saturday is forecast to be below freezing all day there, but Sunday might be suitable for a little beach walking or a stroll on the boardwalk. We shall see. I have a list of restaurants that will be open and there’s an Aldi in Berlin (pronounced BER-lin FWIW) if we feel the urge to get some of their good trail mix. But no real plans.

Once my sweetie gets up, we’ll finish packing, drop off my car, and get on the road!

Happy happy Firday!!

Good Frosty morning to all. It’s 9* here so I’m off to the grocery store to procure the rest of the ingredients needed for the split pea soup. The ham hock is already in a pot of water to make ham broth which I’m going to divide into 2 pots to also make some bean soup. I’ll catch up on all of yesterday’s posts when I’m back and the split pea soup is simmering.

It is MINUS SIX with a wind chill advisory. Going to the chiro this morning, then home. I prepared my couch next last night. A bottom layer of fake velvet throw, then on top of me one heavyish throw with a thinner emergency backup throw. The space heater aimed at the couch. Ursala Kitteh will stalk around not talking or looking at me until she decides that I may share her couch. Cheese popcorn in the pantry for tonight’s noms.

Good morning!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of sheets / towels in the dryer, a load of jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. After KP, I’ll do the houseirk that was neglected last week. Other than procuring groceries, no big plans for the day.

It’s 26F right now, so it’s too cold to do anything outside. I may take the little reddish beast to Lowe’s for an outing, since he’s not been to the dog park for two weeks. If it warms up this weekend, I’ll take him there too.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I wish I could say I’m so glad it’s Friday, but mom shared with me last night that she’d discovered another lump in her mouth. I tried so hard (as one does) to think of anything else that it could be, and she just smiled at me and said, “overly, you know what it is.” Yes, I know what it is. I mean, we don’t have the scans to prove it, but she’s messaged the doctor’s office, so I imagine we will have our proof soon.

It’s often at this point (when chemo drug #3 has failed) that they initiate those conversations about the end of life. I’m getting ahead of myself, but my brain is scrambling around like a rat in a maze trying to find some sort of predictability. She’ll want to treat it if she can. But she’s a transplant patient so her options are really limited. I might take the rest of the day off after I have my weekly with my boss. I’m not sure I’m going to be any good today.

i’m sorry to read ripple’s diagnosis. hopefully he will do well and be happy for the majority of the time.

lager continues his food switch, today he gets 4 teaspoons, so he will have a bit at each feeding. i’m sure he will be happy, i hope his digestive system will be happy. the other times we have tried to switch food he got to the halfway mark and things would go horrible in the litter room.

at work today is shred day. always a good time there.

Would you please send to me
Have a GREAT get away!

wordy Good luck to overlygirl to kick butt at the swim meet. I went to Costco for the first time in years with a friend a week ago. Yeah, I hear you about how much time one can spend in there; ended up getting a number of things that I never knew I needed. As someone else once mentioned, there’s bargains in the middle; I bought 2 merino sweaters for my daughter and myself for $5 @. What a steal. Also bought Lobster Bisque, a huge jar of honey for honey roasted root vegetables and other misc items. Enjoy; don’t get lost or actually, don’t let your Mom get lost. Oops, just realized you were going last night. Hope you both made it home ok.
Oh heck, just read the most recent post {{{wordy & Mom}}}

We had biscuits too, hubs put the leftover chipped beef on his and I put butter and honey on mine. :yum:

MetalMouse when I worked at a client in Eagle Pass and stayed in Piedras Negras, many people went to dinner at 9pm or even 10pm.

My Dad was an engineer at Ford so it was very rare when anyone else would work on the family cars. My Dad either used an old refrigerator box to lie on or then he bought a board that had casters on the corners so he could lie real close to the ground to get under the cars.

ended up waiting until hubs awakened to ensure that he downloaded the digital coupons; I’ve had it with being at checkout and finding out that he forgot to do so. Now heading to Kroger
