There are so many things to comment on and I forget most right after I hit “Post Reply”.
I don’t recall seeing this discussed yet. Did anyone notice the big bird in the Dark Territory? It screeches and takes off a bit in the distance and it’s obvious that it’s huge but it’s definitely more birdlike than pterodactyl like (at least it seems that way to me). Everyone watches it quietly and then Hurley says, “whoever named this place Dark Territory - genius.” So has anyone screen capped that and enlarged and analyzed it yet? Perhaps it’s an ancient species like a Roc or maybe even a Thunderbird and that explains the sudden storms?
Sawyer, Jin and Michael: I noticed that even though the raft went rather 'splodey when the Molotov cocktail was tossed on it, the fire died down a bit after that so it may not burn the raft completely to the water line. It’s possible they could get back on if the fire burns out leaving most of the raft base intact or perhaps a part will break off and not burn so they can cling to it and drift back to the island?
Hurley to Walt on the plane: I thought Hurley was just giving him the fellow gamer thumbs up.
I had also noticed the Game Boy Advance SP and commented to my boyfriend when Walt said he needed new batteries that it had a rechargeable one. (Said stupid boyfriend has left mine on twice and run the battery down and he didn’t remember that.) Then again if Walt just got the game (perhaps Michael gave it to him?) he may not be aware of that since I doubt 10 year olds read the instructions much.
CFL - I don’t think she set the signal fire, I think she just saw it and saw her chance to act to get her child back. I think she helped Claire escape from the others in the hopes that she would be able to trade the child later when it was born. I think she intended to hang on to Claire until the baby was born but Claire got away from her.
I think the “pirates” set the fire to help them find their way back in the dark, they probably don’t have any fancy navigation gear on that old tub. They probably avoid traveling on the island itself because of the security system and things such as bears and giant birds.
Very strong if it’s lit from the bottom, less so if the light source is on someone’s person on the ladder. Consider this. The floodlight on the boat that stole away Walt disappears after he’s abducted – it’s no longer mounted on the pole. In fact, when the boat speeds away, I no longer even see the pole. It might be a simple continuity error – or it might mean the floodlight’s portable. That might be the light source. Which means the boatnappers (presumably the Others) likely already inhabit the hatch interior.
His wheelchair wouldn’t fit down the aisle. IMO, the point of the scene was to show that he has an (albeit weak) “out” against boarding the plane - along with some of the others being prevented from boarding / meeting their destiny, etc.
I’ll have to watch it again, but I didn’t get the impression it was that big. I thought it was an eagle or a hawk. Of course, that wouldn’t have prompted Hurley to make his comment.
I’ll watch that scene again tonight and see what it looks like.
Actually, going back and watching that scene again, that is a smaller branch shaking higher on the tree. The bird comes from lower and its wings brush lightly against that small branch, making it shake. To me, the wings resembled those of a turkey buzzard more than anything else.
You have correctly recollected the connectivity issue. The people in the seats weren’t in uniforms, so they were passengers (suit and tie, though, so maybe 1st class).
That episode summary (linked from there) also had an extra scene previously showing up as the 15th paragraph (the GMA scene is paragraph 8 on that summary). The other missing scene is no longer listed in the summary, but it had something to do with Claire and CFL again, something about Claire thinking that CFL had been involved in helping her get free from Ethan, if I recall.
Speaking of the marshall, the seating chart at the Oceanic Air website gives his name as Edward Mars.
Eddie Mars was the name of the nightclub owner/bad guy in the book and film noir, The Big Sleep.
Random shoutout to a favorite work, or does it mean something?
Also about the Oceanic Air site: does anyone know the cheat code (if there is one) to make all the seat assignments show at once? Do you just have to wait for them all?
It’s there, in the text box under “All Flights Cancelled.” There is also a hidden message from one of the survivors that was put into the bottle on the raft.
The fun comments on the script page are Abram’s “NO! NOT YET!!”
A giant tentacled robot sloth? Ermmm. yeah. Not sure I buy the accuracy of information on that web site, even if it was a hidden easter egg link. Or perhaps they are messing with us.
Now… if it was a giant tentacled robot T-rex, then I might believe… :D
I thought from first viewing that it clearly ended, but because of the questions raised here I went back and checked. I played with the brightness and contrast on my TV and watched it frame-by-frame several times.
After four rungs the rail on the viewers right ends and the left rail begins to bend to the left. The fifth rung is missing. The sixth and seventh rungs are straight, but are bent downward at about a 20 degree angle. The eighth (and last) rung curves downward and is broken off short. Then the left rail also ends. The shaft then continues empty. Incidentally the rails are each attached to the wall behind the ladder every two rungs–tabs from the rails extend back toward the wall, where they bend outward and are attached by bolts.
This is very, very clear on my equipment. There is no question in my mind. Hope this helps.
