But he’s in open water, fifteen miles from shore, in the dark, bleeding. I’m calling shark dismemberment, shall we start a pool?
We’ve covered a lot of this in earlier episodes, especially the Locke the philospher connection and other character names. Rousseau is also the name of a philosopher. If you have some time to kill you could always search for some of the older threads.
My reaction: I join those who said Holy Crap! There was so much happening, yet we still don’t have many answers!
I actually jumped when Arzt went BOOM. That’s what I get for believing whomever it was who said he was going to be a regular. Now he’s just Abstract Arzt.
Well, my boyfriend is visiting so I think I have to go pay attention to him. I think I will be watching my tape of this episode a couple more times in the next few days. Were there more commercials than usual?
Dang, how’d I miss that? I’ll have to rewatch the episode and figure out what else I missed.
I blame the NyQuil.
Anyone else think The Others (on the boat) were CFL’s scientific team?
She’s nutty, so you can’t necesarily rely on her story of what happened. They seemed to be about the right age - a few people around her age, and a young girl that might be her daughter.
She thought they were sick, or influenced, or maybe they were, so she seperated from them and have hid from them all these years. Their boat could be the boat they sailed out on, which they repaired, perhaps.
Was one of the guys on the boat a one armed man?
Ha! Brilliant!
He’s now a Kandinsky
Oh my god. This is like the best episode of a TV show ever!
I can’t get over Locke’s “BZZT!” and Jack’s reaction. And Sayid telling Shannon it won’t be too much if he helps her carry it. Aww! I love him. And I got all weepy when Claire ran to Aaron and Charlie. But, grr, Charlie! Heroin is bad, m’kay? Heroin = bad. I’m disappointed, but not surprised.
I can’t wait for the DVD!
I think that hatch could lead to a laboratory or a prepared location for an underground civilization in preperation for the end times (a nuclear war perhaps?)
Yeah, I knew about the 47 fetish of the Next Gen bunch. I guess I was sorta hoping there was something more to it for Abrams.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be firing up my copy of episode one next week. Might as well go back and rewatch the whole thing to see what I’ve missed.
Is anyone else convinced now that the TCM is invisible? I am thinking like the Monster From the ID in Forbidden Planet at this point…the smoke was the dust wafting around it. The REAL question here is whether it has anything at all to do with The Others. I’m betting no. Whatever created the Island and the TCM is very advanced and not from this wolrd. The Others are just a bunch of evil nutcases, and very human. I wonder what the hell they want Walt to DO for them, though. I tell you what though, I am hoping this all leads to a hell of a fight next season to get Walt back.
Favorite line of the night, by Hurley of course: “Dude.”
I bet a million bucks that Walt’s abduction and the boat of crazies was just Walt’s nightmare. Didn’t the entire sequence open with a shot of Walt sleeping? Overall, I was frustrated as hell from the finale. No answers, Charlie falling off the wagon, and my sweet Sawyer down. I’m hoping the show won’t end up like Twin Peaks, all build-up and a mess of answers.
So is the baby’s name Aaron? I missed what was said after Sun asked about the name.
I have been convinced from the first few eps, and stated so in exactly the same words as you in the thread for Ep 1.4 or 1.5. I’m pleased to finaly have someone else in the club.
Sun: “Aaron. What does the name mean?”
Claire: “I don’t know…”
Okay, check me. Locke was almost pulled into a hole that was clearly more than big enough to accomodate him. When Kate threw the dynamite down into the hole, the resulting explosion didn’t blow back out of the hole around Locke, but rather seemed to result in an expulsion of black smoke (that may or may not have been a living entity in and of itself, but sure as heck moved like one) some distance away from the hole and our heroes. This would seem to indicate the hole leads to a tunnel, and we saw the force of the explosion apparently burst upward through the ground above the supposed tunnel where the dynamite likely came to a bouncing rest, rather than fire belching out of the hole and roasting Locke and Jack (in other words, the force of the explosion didn’t follow the path of least resistance, ie, the empty tunnel). At least, that was the conclusion I drew from what I thought I saw; I’ll check the tape later. The hole leads to a tunnel, or to a chamber of unknown dimensions.
Okay, I said all that to say this: Locke has been hot to open the hatch, open the hatch, open the hatch. Here was an open tunnel that a mysterious island force apparently uses, and Locke ignores it to still concentrate on the hatch? Is this another one of those instances where the lostaways are acting stupid because the writers want things to go in a certain direction, instead of the lostaways acting as you or I might in similar circumstances?
I think I would have carefully put the dynamite down and held it in reserve for Plan B, and then prepared to explore the hole, at least a little bit.
But it cast a shadow as it was going by the cockpit in episode one or two. Don’t ask me to explain the flying trees and swirling blackness though…
How prophetic!
The scene with Jin in the bathroom with his spy…my jaw dropped. A great little extra surprise, and so well-acted by DDL.
The scene with Locke and the humility of being carried onto the plane…and sitting forlornly in his seat - more great, heart-ripping acting. He and Jack sharing that smile - good contrast to the schism that’s opening between them.
Anyone think that Hurley’s good-luck effect was actively trying to keep him OFF the plane?
Claire didn’t really get a flashback - there was just the one shot of her getting on the plane. Did anyone else get missed?
Michael - you were NOT trying to give your son away. I’m so disappointed in you!
I like the way Walt and Sawyer interact. I swear, Walt can get him to answer questions more than any of the grownups.
So did the CFL really set the fire, or was Charlie just ranting? She said “I came but they weren’t here,” but maybe it was just a trick to get to Aaron.
Charlie on the H again. Dammit.
They’re replaying this episode on Saturday, so I get to see my lost minutes. Yay!
I was getting a feeling partway through (and posted as much, earlier in this thread, while the show was going on) that CFL set the fire and then told our castaways that it was a sign of the Others coming. I think maybe she was hoping the plume of smoke would lure the Others to that spot, as well. I don’t know, but I kind of think Charlie may have been right (and I was thinking that myself, earlier) – CFL could have planned that all along with the black smoke.
On “The Others”… yep, they seem like real people, albeit mean and heartless. Although there’s got to be some reason why Sayid, CFL, and Sawyer have all hear their “whispers” out in the woods, seemingly in their own heads.
BTW, did anybody else catch the commercial where they were saying something about showing a missing scene (sounded like a deleted scene from tonight’s episode) on Good Morning America tomorrow?
Well, in case you didn’t catch that…
They are showing a missing scene from tonight’s episode on Good Morning America tomorrow.
