Lost 1.9, "Solitary" (SPOILERS)

Many can’t. :dubious:

Ah… cool. Thanks!

Alright! That does it. I’m changing my user name to Elephant Mann!

I don’t see how that would be possible. Unless, we have Jack searching through the debris then suddenly look up and say “Thank God for formula smugglers!”

Okay, but if she says, “There was no father…”, I’m done with this show. :dubious:

Interesting episode. Yet another character seeking redemption for his soul. (How many ways can man torment himself?) But I still want to know who socked Sayid in the head.

It can happen. Midichlorians are VERY powerful!

I’m sure that if it came down to it, John Locke would be up to the task of milking a wild boar. “Okay Walt, take this empty jar. I’ll hold her down, you tug at her teats. Don’t ever let anyone tell you can’t do it!”

I had the same thought, but with a rich diet like that the baby’s going to turn into a little hog.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but there’s a reason that the saying goes “useless as teats on a boar”. I’m thinking that they’ll do much, much better trying to milk a wild sow, personally.

From Merriam-Webster

Main Entry: boar
Pronunciation: 'bOr, 'bor
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English bor, from Old English bAr; akin to Old High German & Old Saxon bEr boar
Date: before 12th century
1 a : an uncastrated male swine b : the male of any of several mammals (as a guinea pig or raccoon)
**2 : WILD BOAR **

  • boar·ish /-ish/ adjective

Main Entry: wild boar
Function: noun
Date: 13th century
: an Old World wild hog (Sus scrofa) from which most domestic swine have been derived

in other words a species of swine, not just a gender.

I think both Larry and I understood that we were referring to “wild boar” as a species and not “boar” as in a male swine.
Besides that, if Locke catches a boar for milk, that boar is damn well gonna give some milk.

Whether your boar is male or not, or gives Locke induced milk or not – none of this sounds kosher to me.

Hogwash!

Let’s leave Sawyer out of this.

Hollywood Hogwash!

Ogwashhay!

Speaking of which, what has Sayid been eating all this time? hmmmm…

Sorry, to bring this thread back up, but I just now watched the last two episodes and read the threads.

In answer to your question,

  1. I know some Muslims who eat pork.

  2. I don’t think it was stated that he was a Muslim anyway. I can’t find a good, scientific source for the percentage of Iraqis that are Muslim. Most of them seem to say 97%. However, those sources also say that 99% of Persians are Islamic and I know a lot of Persons who eat pork. (Used to work in a Persian run resturant that served pork products.)

  3. There are other sources of food on the island. Fish, sea urchins, bananas, and probably lots more that they aren’t showing. There should be plenty of plants and bugs and other small animals that they can use for meals.
I am dying to know what he was saying when he was hanging upside down. I am assuming and hoping he was speaking Arabic. I will try to get one of my Arabic speaking friends to translate.

Now, I thought I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but I might not have, because no one has brought this up again.

Does Jin speak english?

I think he at least understands it. In the episode where he attacked Michael, Michael says “Where I’m from, people like him don’t like people like me.” Or something like that, basically saying that Jin was racist. Jin shouted back at him, “Don’t say things like that!” Which suggests that he understood what Michael said. I also thought it was interesting that he got very offended by Michael’s statement. It made me think higher of him.

I will ask my ex to watch that scene in 8 which was not translated and tell me what was said.

Muslims can eat pork without sin when they’d come to be harmed/starve otherwise, I believe.

And Iraq under Saddam was much more secular than other Muslim nations. Perhaps they were Reform Muslims…
