Wow, Kate has really buffed up over the Summer.
Biggest question I have is why is this Desmond fella stuck in the 70’s despite the fact that he was exposed to mainstream culture within what had to be the last 5 years. I hope they don’t bust out some shitty twin storyline.
The geodesic dome (which you don’t often see in underground dwellings) seemed to contain both vintage and very modern hardware. Maybe that will just remain as an incongruity, like the way a sailing ship was carrying dynamite.
Wait’ll you find out Desmond’s full name – Desmond Ex Machina.
When you’re sealed in some kind of subterranean doom lab, you take whatever furnishings and music they give you.
The best I’ve got is that he got stuck there in his race around the world thing, and the guy who has lived there since the 70’s is dead and gone.
Or, he could just really like the Mamas and the Papas.
But I think we might have to go back closer to ten years, judging by Jack’s awful hair.
OK, I had to go back and rewatch to make sure I wasn’t crazy…
We have older computer, turn-table with LP’s, old music, older exercise equipment…
And, at minute 1 of the show, just between the shots of him clearing the table and washing the dishes, we see in the background a brand spankin’ new set of those curvilinear front-loading washer and dryers that got so trendy - ooooh, LAST YEAR!
So what do we think? Mistake? Product placement? Or is he somehow getting Kenmore to drop-ship the newest laundry equipment (and dishsoap, come to think of it) to a deserted island?
Huh?
All I saw was a front-loading washing machine with a curved porthole in the front, which have been around for decades. they’ve sort of come back into vogue, but they’ve had them since my parents were kids.
That’s what I saw too, but there was something that looked like really big newer style stereo speakers. All you dvr people get to work finding out what those were.
It looked an awful lot like the newer series to me, including the trendy color (which was also the color of the paint on the wall), which wasn’t available years ago. I’m not an appliance expert, but I’ve never seen an older model that was so curvy - my grandmother’s front loader is a boxy thing with a protuding portal-door.
Probably not a huge plot device or anything, and perhaps it was an old model, but it caught my eye simply 'cause it stood out, design-wise.
I was found out that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be joining the cast this season. He played Adebisi on “Oz” and was awesomely terrifying. I can’t wait to see what kind of character they’ll have him playing. God, I’m so happy this show is back!
Thank goodness for channel 45. Now my Tivo thinks I like Mad About You and Bewitched though.
Why does the hatch say “Quarantine” on the inside? What’s quarantined must be on the outside, right?
Not sure what the deal is, but it certainly explains why Sayid’s compass was off last season.
I took another look at the washer/dryer, and I can’t tell either way (the dishes, however, are suspiciously avocado-green). There’s another shot of the combo when he’s doing pull-ups - you can see them at the bottom part of the screen between lifts.
While looking at the washer/dryer I noticed two other things. First, ye olde numbers look like the combination to the weapons locker (it shows him dialing the last two numbers). Second, there’s a certain emblem everywhere down there: on the door to the medicine, on his coveralls pocket, on various columns around the room. It’s an octagon, with a small black circle in the middle, containing what looks like a white ankh with the bottom-right corner of the top broken off, and the bottom part kind of. . .bent. In between the middle and each edge is a series of three small lines. Bah, I’m no good at describing things. I’ll see if I can get a picture.
Anyone else on DirecTV get to miss about 15 minutes of the show?
Grr…

Did anyone else think Walt looked noticably older? I realize the most likely explanation, if true, is that Malcolm David Kelley had a growth spurt since last year’s episodes were taped.
That’s what time shifting is for. I’m going to watch the start again at 12:00 and see if I can spot that symbol jmizzou was talking about.
BTW, in all the full cast promo photos I’ve seen for season 2, Walt is missing. I’m just saying…
I expected it to be Desmond primarily because of the line he left Jack with at the stadium in the flashback. “See you in another life, brother”.
That, and his build seemed like it could match that of the guy in the opening scenes.
That should probably be in a spoiler box.
Also, what magnet?
I was going to suggest maybe Rose’s husband, Bernard. Then I looked up his photo on IMDB, and he does look maybe a little young for her… But maybe Rose likes her men young.
Maybe Desmond is God. Or maybe he’s on the other side… Desmond the Demon.
Ooh, good catch.
When Jack was down looking around with a flashlight, and the key on the loop around his neck started being pulled up towards something in the wall. Something magnetic going on down there.
Oh, and a few general items of interest. On IMDB they have a few names listed as guest spots for the next two episodes and…
in Ep. 2.2, T’Panda… I mean T’Pol (Jolene Blalock) is listed as guesting.
I presume the flashbacks in Ep. 2.3 will be about Locke, since Locke’s dad is listed as a guest spot, as well as “Helen” (played by Katey Sagal). Interesting, though, is the fact that Robert Patrick (Hibbs) from Sawyer’s flashback is also listed – so I presume there’s going to be another connection here between flashbacks
That line was a bit peculiar, but I missed the first 2 minutes or so (sigh 2 year olds… I came in right about the time he was messing with the mirrors and stuff), so I didn’t have the build to go on. It got a genuine “Hey, what the fuck?!” out of me, so I’ll take it. Surprises are fun!
