Lost 2.1: "Man of Science, Man of Faith"

Let’s hear it for KTRK Houston ABC 13! Hurricane of the century bearing down on us, evacuating the city, but they have their priorities straight! While KPRC NBC had webcam footage of the traffic on I-45 all night, KTRK only had two little spots during the commercial with not a minute of the 2 hours preempted!

4+8+15+16+23+42

Hear, hear! Or however you’re supposed to spell that. But I appreciated their restraint.

Congratulations to whomever pointed out that the flashbacks are of increasingly distant times. Previously, I think we saw Jack marrying his wife and now we’re seeing how they met.

Well, medical experimentation of some sort seems to play a strong role.

Danielle’s reference to the sickness… the hatch saying “quarantine” on the inside, suggesting that the island is infected… the … caretaker? of the facility injecting himself with possibly some sort of vaccine?

Why was quarantine written on the inside of the hatch? My theory is that “they” know that there is some deadly plague about to kill most of mankind and the underground is there for a few people to survive it. But why is Desmond apparently alone?

Yea senor beef that’s what I gathered as well. CFL said her crew were infected with a virus. I thought it was pretty obvious the guy in the Cool Cave Lair was injecting himself with a vaccine.

So the idea of this being some crazy government experiment isn’t too far off hey! There’s no way a private organization could get anything like this going.

I already have a guess as to why/how the plane crashed. There must be some sort of a crazy ACME magnet that literally broke the plane into pieces. Maybe it automatically gets activated when a plane crosses the airspace.

Another point I’d like to make, the guys in the boat that grabbed Walt didn’t really fit the profile of the guy in the Cool Cave Lair (CCL). So I’m willing to bet that the guy in the CCL isn’t an “Other”.

Man I can’t belive I have to wait 2 weeks!

MtM

Two weeks? Is that a Canadian broadcast date? The next episode will be on Sept 28 in the US.

Arriving so very late down this hatch…

May I say one more time that Hurley has THE best lines on this show? And great delivery from Jorge Garcia.

Back later after I read through the thread…

If I were in Jack’s place, I’d assume that the powerful magnetic field meant I was approaching a generator of some sort, think “high voltage,” and back off the way he did.

Holy shit, best hour of television ever! (though I say that after almost every episode of Lost).

Why was Locke so calm as Desmond had a gun pointed at his head? What did they do with Kate?

Walt is with the pirates, but what did Shannon see? Did Walt use telepathy, astral projection, a doppelganger?

That was Mama Cass - Make Your Own Kind of Music… and if I’m not mistaken that was probably the album Bubblegum, Lemonade & Something For Mama which was released July 5, 1969.

When he put the record on, it was the first song that came up and it’s the first song on side 1.

That was the first thing I thought. You’d have to have a pretty damn big generator to keep running everything down there. Especially with those lights set up to simulate daylight like that (at first it looked like he was walking through a house lit by sunshine).

Oh, and I went back to play Walt a few times. I think what he was saying sounded like ‘I have to tell you something’. Someone pointed out elsewhere that Sayid said Shannon was really tired, maybe since she was so tired her natural mental defences were down and Walt was able to communicate with her telepathically on some level.

Everyone else was pretty well rested, and no one else on the island (of the survivors Walt knows and might want to communicate with) appear to have any psychic ability whatsoever. Other than Locke’s strange prophet-like gig, but would Walt want to communicate with him when Locke already did what he told him not to do?

I’m also very certain that one of the voices said ‘Vincent’ just before Walt appeared. It was clearer than Walt’s voice when I turned up the volume as much as I dared.

Horrendous. I couldn’t stop staring at it.

I’m sorry, who is Desmond? The guy Jack met when he was running at the stadium?

I have a feeling that we’re going to hear some more about the driver of the SVU that Jack’s future ex-wife plowed into.

They made a point of Jack having to decide which patient to attend to, and shortly after he made the call to stay with the girl, the guy was pronounced dead. (At 8:15am, naturally.)

I’m guessing that was a pivotal moment in the life of one of the passengers in the tail section.

If you haven’t already, I think it’s almost time to concede the point that there is no way that the writers promise of nothing being paranormal to exist. That’s over.

I can’t wait till next week!

Confirmed. When Hurley told Jack that he won $114 million in the lottery, I quick checked the math on The Numbers and came up with 108. (Well, actually, I came up with 110 originally, but that is because I can no longer add in my head – I need my adding machine.) BUT. Why did Crazy Cave Lair Desmond (or whoever) find it important enough to feature the number “108” in the Cave Wall Art, right along with the other Numbers? Does 108 also mean something special by itself? Is it the new SuperNumber? And, should I play it for the PA Daily Number tonight?

Well, 4-8-15-16-23-42 is the vaccine’s serial number (although it’s possible that just that dose had the serial number). Desmond maybe added the numbers up, or maybe the disease is #108. He might be in the 108[sup]th[/sup] underground pod!! We’ve solved the coincidence of how Hurley got the numbers… but we were never told why Rousseau’s tribe were broadcasting the numbers. Maybe they were begging to be air-dropped some more vaccine? Trying to warn others away?

I’ve always liked it because 3[sup]3[/sup] x 2[sup]2[/sup] = 108, but I have always been a litttle weird with numbers.

Dude? NO.

But … but … what if it’s the antidote for the badness that is all the other Numbers?
