Lost 2.11: "The Hunting Party"

Just to clarify (for those who may not remember), Bluebeard was Sawyer’s nickname for the bearded guy who attacked them on the raft and took Walt.

Haven’t we seen Kate in this situation before? Can’t help but wonder…

You must be getting the broadcast a few minutes ahead of me. I saw this post, then the scene came on a minute later.

Heh – Libby is cute, in sort of a “been-terrorized-by-the-Others-for-40-days” kind of way.

Ooooh, that was the look of “I’m so very disappointed in you for disobeying my orders, Kate, so I hope you didn’t think we were going to kiss again…”

So he wants to be General Jack now. With Sgt. Ana-Lucia training the cadets.

He’s sure got himself a fixer-upper there.

What sort of weapons can they get their hands on?

Actually, the Others are probably expecting them to attack with rocks and pointy sticks and such, and I doubt that they’re prepared to defend themselves against attackers wielding fresh fruit. Have the Losties lob papayas at 'em! They’ll never see it coming!

When Bluebeard asked for Kate, he said “Bring her out, Alex”.

Now who do we know named Alex?

I didn’t catch that. Huh. Should have. I just rewatched, and all we saw of Alex was her (we do know Alex is a she, right?) arm.

So what did we learn with the Others’ pow wow? They don’t like bad neighborhood etiquette? I definitely would’ve liked to hear some of their motives tonight.

If you mean our castaways, I’m pretty sure they still have some guns left from the hatch. Just several fewer now.

I was about to ask why a kid’s growth spurt needed explaining – when I remembered that on the show, they’ve only been on the island for 50 days.

I’m seriously starting to hate the Walt-snatching boat people. Pretty high-handed about “letting” the crash survivors live on “their” island. Nobody asked to crash on the goddamned place.

If you want to train an army, why would you ask a cop and not the guy who used to be in the friggin Republican Guard?

Considering the RG’s track record, I can sorta understand it…

How are they gonna get away with training an army without the Others knowing about it?

Also, what was the significance of the missing bullet casings? Was that just to let the hunting party know that they had lost Michael’s trail?

I assumed the missing bullet casings were because the others had done some shooting, Michael only had three shots.

What missing casings?

Even on my crappy TV, I heard what sounded like three shots from one type of gun, followed by several more shots that sounded different.

I.e., three shots by Michael, ejecting the casings after each shot, followed by shots from the Others.

My recorder stopped about five minutes before the end of tonight’s episode. I saw right up until Jack sat down with Ana at the end. I’d be much obliged if someone could recap for me the final minutes!

Thanks

Yep. Three, followed by different shots. To my ears, three from a bolt-action hunting rifle, followed by more from maybe an AK.

Any signifigance to the fact that Bluebeard was carrying a Luger?

I understand Jack’s initial beligerance (sp?)–it forced Bluebeard to tip his hand. Okay.

But after that, why not just say, “Okay, no problem, we’ll stay on this side of the line?” Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

Do we just not like being told what to do?

Do we not trust Bluebeard? But why not in this case? Clearly if he wanted Jack and co. dead, there would be no need for him to offer the “line in the sand” deal. This indicates that when BB made the “line in the sand” offer, he really meant it.

I didn’t understand Jack’s approach.
