Lost 3.09: "Stranger in a Strange Land"

Thread rules:

Heinlein anyone? Biblical reference? Both?

Well, last week didn’t advance the story, so maybe this week we’ll find out if Kate, Sawyer and Karl make it to the beach camp. We’ve only been waiting for about 4 episodes now to find out what type of search party Locke put together. Maybe he’s already waiting for them on the north end of the island…?

From the ABC “Lost” website:

Stranger in a Strange Land A power play ensues between Jack and “The Others” as Juliet’s future hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Kate, Sawyer and Karl continue on their journey away from “Alcatraz.”

Here are some interesting external links:

The Lost Report: A very well written summary of the most current episode often containing interesting insights. I don’t think you’ll find spoilers.

The Tail Section: Excellent site for still frame photos of key scenes, along with some good analysis. But… beware of spoilers!

Sledgeweb’s Lost… Stuff: Pretty good site, but again beware of spoilers. I use it mainly for the Timeline section, which is an incredibly detailed breakdown of “how long since…?” for almost anything you can think of (pre- and post-plane crash).

Door Map from Episode 2.17. A nicely cleaned up version of the diagram Locke saw while pinned under the lockdown doors. No spoilers.

Lostpedia: The wikipedia of Lost information. Quite a comprehensive site, but beware of spoilers!

ThEmIsFiTiShErE: The Misfit offers his whacky commentary on “Lost”. Is he a nut-case or a clever insider? Careful, though, possible spoilers.

Next weeks TV Guide entry bothers me for some reason:

Tricia Tanaka Is Dead
The discovery of an old, wrecked car on the island leads Hurley on a mission of hope; Kate and Sawyer reunite with their fellow castaways; Kate remains unsure about leaving Jack behind.

So basically we are back on “Othertraz” for the duration of this episode? Blech.

Is it Wednesday already?

I don’t think we’ll get much info about the beach people this week. Probably more about the aftermath of Kate and Sawyer’s assisted escape. How much backlash will Jack get? How about Juliet? Will we see more of Alex?

I’d rather see the Dharma shark sink it’s mechanical teeth into Kate and Sawyer.

I don’t know for sure, but if I had to guess, I’d say we’ll get a little bit of both islands tonight.

I imagine we won’t see any of the main group, but instead we’ll get mostly Jack with interspersed scenes of Kate, Sawyer and Karl.

Didn’t last week’s teaser say something about revealing three big secrets this week?

I don’t remember that, but I suspect we’ll see

That scene with Cindy, the flight attendant. That could be one of the “secrets”.

I hope there are some scenes where Jack and Kate yell at each other through wallkie talkies.

Answer to previous spoilers:

Three big secrets. We find out about Jack’s tatoos. We find out what happened to the children that the Others took and we find out something else I can’t recall.

Funny* thing about this website. I clicked it, just to check it out. I never in my whole entire life – and please bear in mind that I was right smack in the middle of my formative years in the '80s, when Valley Girl and Surferspeak were all the rage, not to mention the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – I never in my whole entire life saw so many exclamation points in one place at the same time. It’s truly bizarre. So if gratutious excitement and/or EXTRANEOUS CAPITAL LETTERS gives you a headache (as they do me) click that link at your own risk.

I did like this bit, though, buried at the bottom of a paragraph:

[sic] Yes, the spoiler warning boilerplate appeared at the end of the spoiler info.

Sigh … I luuuuuuuve teh internets.

  • Not “funny” = “haha” … more “funny” = “oh, God, no!”

Herc at AICN usually has a summary up by this point, not sure what that means (could be he hasn’t seen it, or is working on something else)

Brian

I’ve been asking about Cindy and her abrupt disappearance for some time, so I’m glad to get a bit of pay-off tonight in that respect.

I’m convinced that this guy is an insider who mixes spoilers with his zany “analysis”. I love reading his over-the-top tone and the nutty stuff he comes up with.

I wonder if Kate will trip at some point while running through the jungle? I wonder if Sawyer will help her up?

-Joe

If you’re like me and you kind of forget who Cindy is/was, here’s a link to her entry in the Lostpedia.

Hahahaha! Great nickname.

Captain Bunnykiller.

Nice to see Jack is still pissed and accusatory. I was worried he’d morph back into wimpy-Jack after the surgery.

And Juliet’s taking his place in the cell? Hm, is Jack being whisked off for a stay in Karl’s old room?

Ahhh, so Juliet gets Jack’s old cell?

At least finally Jack called them out directly – the “Others” who always keep claiming to be the good ones. It’s taken a while for any of our Losties to reply to one of those with the litany of crimes observed to date. (Kidnapping Claire, hanging Charlie from a tree, etc).

But he forgot to mention the murder of Scott/Steve.

methinks he’s off to kate and sawyer’s old digs.
