I can only say two things right now:
Holy. Fucking. Shit… Best. Episode. Ever.
-and-
Jack is an idiot.

And the ever-growing list of Sawyer-given nicknames continues: Three tonight.
Zeke, Mr. Clean, and Daniel Boone. Hey, isn’t there a master list of these nicknames somewhere on this board or elsewhere?
Stephe96: He asked for confirmation that Ana was a cop; she said yes; then he asked about how to put together an army. That was it, except for the teasers for next week.
Did anyone catch: “Bring her out here, Alex?”
So much happened in this episode, my head is still spinning.
Heh. According to IMDB, Bluebeard’s real character name is “Mr. Friendly”. Indeed.
Anybody count the number of torches in the OthersRing?
As for the final minute Stephe96…
Jack asked Ana about when she killed The Other, then he asked if she’s a cop.
Was a cop, Ana corrected him.
Then Jack asked, How long to you think it would take to train an army?
Thank you

My favorites are:
Walt: Tattoo
Jin: Mr. Miyagi
Jack: Dr. Quinn
Sayid: Captain Falafel
I counted 10 torches after Bluebeard said “LIGHT 'EM UP!”
I know the showdown with the Others is exciting and all, but nobody’s got anything to say about Jack’s backstory bit?
He should be in his element, then: “You’re always going to need something to fix.” --The ex Mrs. Shepherd, who left her little boy blue and wandered off with a wolf.
Since the would-be homewrecker clearly has daddy issues that banged up against Jack’s daddy issues, how long before she turns up on the Island of Misfit Toys herself?
So if the Others fired back at Michael, are we supposed to assume he’s dead/captured now? I thought BB said something like, “Michael will never find us.” Did they let him run along maybe? I mean we know he’s not dead. They wouldn’t kill a main character offscreen.
Why wasn’t Jack for questioning? Like “Who are you?”(1), “How did YOU get on the Island?” I understand why the writes didn’t want those answered, but Jack could have ASKED. And couldn’t he have said “We didn’t WANT to be on this Island”
Brian
(1) or “What do you want” if he wanted to be a Shadow <*>
Psst… post #48. I caught it, but my husband and kids didn’t. I need better Lost-viewing buddies.
I missed the previews, because this one ran over and I switched to Law & Order. Anything good?
They still have plenty of guns in the big safe, but they might want to conserve the ammo. No more willy-nilly shooting of innocent Ranch Dressing.
Jack’s gonna be soooo pissed off at Kate.
Who’s to say he didn’t? But who’s to say that Sayid would have agreed? He lost Shannon to what he thought was the Others – why would he risk what little bit he has left? I almost think Sayid will be the conscientious objector in what (presumably) is about to go down, and he’s going to end up in a world of hurt or perhaps dead because of it. In a lot of ways I’m seeing characters line up like pieces on a chess board, and Sayid is starting to look like a Knight who will be sacrificed in about 12 moves (or before the end of the season, whichever is first).
(But, then again, I am also a totally paranoid insane crazy conspiracy theorist “X-Files” fan person with no hobbies and not enough sleep, so YMMV.)
I thought Locke and James should have given a big thanks to Kate for preventing Jack from getting them all killed.
A minor nitpick.
Was anyone else confused by Locke’s statement regarding the air vent?
He said that he bolted it shut from the inside. His reasoning being that it’s useless to change the lock if people can just crawl through the air vent to get into the gun cabinet.
But if I’ trying to get into the cabinet through the air vent, he’s just placed the bolts on the inside where I am and I can get them off easier. The bolts should be placed on the outside of the access hatch that’s inside the cabinet and on the inside of all the hatches outside the cabinet. Which would prevent as much as possible getting into the cabinet, but make it fairly easy to get out of the cabinet.
Or am I missing something?
I think he meant he bolted it shut from the inside of the gun locker, not the inside of the vent.
One of my co-watchers has been getting steadily annoyed this season. When Jack turned to Ana Lucia and asked about training an army, said co-watcher simply looked at the rest of us and said “Best ending ever.”
I caught the Alex thing, which I then had to explain to everybody in the room, but that’s why they keep me around (like rockle, I’m an X-Files alumni, and pay attention to some ridiculous things). If Alex is still alive, it only stands to reason that Bluebeard wasn’t lying, and Walt’s still alive too. I could swear he said “Michael’s fine,” not “Michael will never find us,” but I could be wrong. Either way, looks like we won’t be seeing Michael for a few episodes.
And by the way, the combination for the gun room was 25, 29 … ? It probably doesn’t really matter, but we like trivia.
For all the interesting stuff that popped up this episode, it felt a little flat. I understand, and appreciate the need to stretch the story, but as N91WP said, ask some freaking questions! I hate that the mystery is being stretched by making the characters implausibly stupid.
If Bluebeard doesn’t want you on his island, then how about you ask him to loan you his nifty boat?
A few other things:
It was nice to see Ethan’s name mentioned again. BB’s response did not confirm that Jack was right, though. Didn’t he say something like “interesting theory…” That is usually TV speak for “WRONG, ASSHOLE!” Still it is good to see little moments like that to let you know the characters remember things from last season.
I enjoyed Locke’s back and forth with Sawyer about names and nicknames. He was really getting to Sawyer.
No real surprise that ANaL is a former cop.
Anyone else think that Jack’s wife’s “someone else” will be someone significant? (Is it someone related to the island’s mystery…or is it Jack’s dad? That would be some serious daddy issues!)
I am now fairly certain that BB is DeGroot. His beard in silhouette looked exactly like the long, Bushy beard DeGroot sported in the filmstrip.
Count me as another who noticed the “Alex” reference. I watch the show with my wife and I had to pause it to remind her who Alex is. My wife loves the show, but never spends any time dissecting it like we do. I wonder do we, the obsessive compulsive types, enjoy the show more than the regular viewers? There really is a whole other layer of content that you have to get online or on a message board to appreciate. This may or may not make us geeks. I don’t know…
Do you think the Producers love the obsession of the net fans? I know creators sometimes get annoyed with hardcores, but the writers are CLEARLY putting little stuff in there for people like us. I wonder do they get online Thursday morning and check to see what got noticed?
*The Army line at the end was good. Not only does it create a new plotline to explore, I foresee much “Private Hurley” comedy in our future!
The Lost Army better watch out. That Other had amazing accuracy. I doubt it is very easy to graze someone’s face by torchlight!
Wasn’t it weird seeing Locke as the agent of restraint and Jack as the agent of aggression? I thought when that fissure opened, it would be the other way around. I hope it gets Locke back to center stage in the show. He has been underused this season. The first season, he was driving the show. Now it seems like he is only reacting to the comments and decisions of other characters.
See, that doesn’t make sense to me either. In that scenario the bolts are accessabile to them while they are locked in the gun locker, so thay can (for instance) try smashing them open with the but of a gun or something. If he really thinks they’ll never open it, why not just say he bolted it shut. Why specify “from the inside”?
I’m probably overthinking this.
'Cause we never do that.
I seem to be having memory loss… who is Alex?
Danielle Rousseau’s missing daughter.
