Lost 2.11: "The Hunting Party"

I thought the whole confrontation wth the ‘others’ was poorly done. First of all, don’t you have any questions for them, guys? Why in heck did they seem completely uninterested in A) how the ‘others’ got on the island, and B) What in hell is going on?

And what, no negotiations? Bluebeard says, “Start a fire, we’ve got some talking to do”. I fully expected the next scene to be a sit-down around a campfire where some secrets are revealed, perhaps a pact is made, or at least there’s an attempt to understand each side’s point of view. But no… They remain mysterious, turn over Kate, and that’s it? Everyone just goes their own way. And now Jack is going to raise an army against them? WTF? That’s simply suicidal. These people have resources Jack doesn’t know about, he has no idea how many of them there are, they’re obviously totally at home on the island, well armed, and able to move in groups of 10 without Locke or anyone else know they are there.

It all just seems way too contrived.

What I want to know is how the Others got those torches to all light and extinguish on cue? Have you ever tried that? It’s impossible, unless they were all gas fueled. In that case, where are the Others getting the natural gas?

I’m thinking it’s just because he didn’t happen to have a wrench or a screwdriver with him. Without a wrench, he wouldn’t be opening the vent. If he had a screwdriver, he could have opened the lock from the inside. We know he knows how from last week’s episode.

They clearly have diesel or gasoline to power their boat.

Since Michael was headed north instead of east, I guess that means that he was getting instructions from the IM chat sessions.

Is Sayid the only one that knows the CFL’s daughter’s name was Alex? Too bad they didn’t bring Sayid on this hunting trip. He could have given Alex the word that her moms was looking for her.

I’m thinking that Ethan was part of a different group than the Bluebeard clan. Mr. Friendly didn’t seem too put out by the mention of the name. More like he gained a little intel about a rival group.

In the preview thay showed a blond chick tossing her hair. Was that Libby? If so, she sure cleaned up nice.

I posted most of this in the Lost questions thread, but I figured there’d be more discussion here:

Yay! They actually pointed out that Cindy got taken less than a mile from camp!

When Sawyer called the Other “Zeke” was that just a nickname, or does he know him from previously?

Did Sawyer get shot first, or was he hit with his own bullet?

I notice that Zeke didn’t acknowledge Ethan as being one of his crew, so there may be more than one band of Others on the island. It may not have been The Others, it might be Some Others…

Oh, and once again, if you need to keep a secret, shoot Hurley first.

Yeah, that was pretty lame of those guys not to ask, although I doubt BB would have been any help. I don’t think The Others want the outside world to know about the island. I also think they are studying the Lost-aways in some way, and don’t want them to leave either. They want them as guinea pigs.

And of course Locke doesn’t want to get off the island, either, so we couldn’t have expected him to ask. Why didn’t Jack bring Sayid with him, I wonder…

I wondered this for a minute. But Jack was in a hurry, to be sure, and probably didn’t have time to look for Sayid. In addition, Shannon’s been dead two days. Sayid’s got bigger things on his mind.

Going back to the days of number insanity, did anyone catch the combination that Locke called out to Sawyer?

I think it is very possible that Ethan is part of Goodwin’s group and BB is part of another group.

Maybe they were from different projects.

So doing a census of the different factions on the island (alive or dead), allowing for possible overlap:

The Losties.
The Tailies.
The French Crew (Danielle, Alex)
Adam and Eve
The (Possible) Crew of the Black Rock
The Nigerian Plane Crash
BB’s Crew
Goodwin’s Crew (the cult like others)
Jack’s Dad (possible hallucination)
Desmond and the guy before him who died
TCM
Sharks, Horses and Bears…oh my!

It makes me wonder why Danielle said she had never seen the Others.
Which ones are considered “Others” may be up for debate, but why was she surprised at seeing people?

They seem to be all over the place. I’m surprised no one has opened a Starbucks in the island. It would probably do good business.

Did I miss anyone?

[li]The Tailies have kidnapped and are holding several children, including Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalt[/li][li]The Tailies made one effort to kidnap Aaron, and may do so again; and[/li][li]The Others have killed several Losties without apparent motivation.[/li][/ul]
The are a threat, and what incites their lethal violence can’t be foretold. So, you must kill them all.

The first two numbers were 25 and 29, I think, but I lost it after that.

They aren’t.

There’s that whole “getting Walt back” thing…

The Nosies. The pilot survived, and there were empty seats. It’s unlikely but not inconceivable (“you keep using that word…”) that somebody crawled out of the wreckage and has been surviving alone, or just with a few others, all this time. The Losties probably never went back to do a detailed search of the nose section, so they wouldn’t necessarily have hooked up with them; that rainstorm would have wiped away Jack, Kate & Charlie’s tracks.

I was just listening to the Podcasts from ABC this week and in the first or second one they mention that they like to hear what the people are saying about it and when they write the episodes they put in more/fill out the stuff people have latched on to.

I did notice Alex, I just wish I had someone to watch Lost with! I like being able to make comments and have someone make comments in return.

I’ve done some thinking about Sarah’s affair. Given the usual coincidences, chances are good that whoever she was seeing is somehow connected to all of this. On the island, we have Sawyer, Sayid, Locke, Charlie, Hurley, Michael, Jin, Boone, Eko, and several others. I think the Sawyer answer is too easy, Sayid had never been to L.A., Locke was involved with Helen, Charlie’s not her type, Hurley’s never mentioned his hot blonde girlfriend, Michael lived in New York, Jin lived in Korea, Boone was too young for her and probably wouldn’t have dated the woman who inadvertently caused his stepfather’s death, Eko’s unlikely. I’m willing to bet that whoever Sarah was dating is not on the island (unless it’s Steve or Scott, of course), but that leaves a whole bunch of people we’ve seen in other flashbacks–such as the T-1000 who sent Sawyer to Australia, Jack’s best man, Randy the Jerk who was both Hurley’s boss at the chicken place and Locke’s boss at the box company, and a slew of others.

Yeah. I’ve got too much free time on my hands.

Who is to say it is a “he”? Didn’t she use the pronoun game?

It could be Libby!

Or maybe that is just me hoping for some hot girl on girl action![/sub]

Does anybody else wonder about those torches that the Others lit up? How do we know each torch represents a person? If, as someone said, there were 10 torches visible, perhaps there were only 5 Others surrounding our boys, each one lighting 2 torches. Is this a hint that there aren’t really that many Others?

Or Kate.

Nitpick / Question: It wasn’t the Tailies (AnaLucia, Eko, and co.). And are we actually sure that the Others tried to kidnap Turniphead (as Aaron will forever and always be known to me) anyway? As I interpreted that sequence of events, they weren’t after “Aaron” so much as they were after “the boy” – and, as it turns out, Aaron was not “THE” boy they were after. Which is why Claire was returned mostly unharmed (physically, anyway). The needles in Claire’s dreams were memories of tests they did before they determined that, “Oops, we don’t need this kid, our bad, sorry, here you go, have him back, no harm, no foul, oh, and whoopsie about the dead hobbit back there!” Or am I misremembering incorrectly?

John, you spelled “Kate” incorrectly.
