-While it’s now pretty apparent that all the Others are in the same group, there seems to be some disagreement among them. Ethan told Claire not to tell anyone else that he took her for a walk (possibly because he was starting to care for her), and Alex of course helped her escape. What exactly are they disagreeing about?
-We still don’t know exactly what their plan was for the baby. They seem to like to take kids and use them for their experiments. They were clearly planning to kill Claire and keep the baby, although Ethan claimed to want to let her go after she delivered.
-Ethan’s original plan was similar to the Other assigned to the tailies. He was supposed to make a list of some sort, then bring Claire back, presumably along with the other people on the list. But Hurley screwed that up.
Yes, it can be done. But I’m not under the impression that it’s a simple matter of hooking 'em up and watching 'em flow, if you catch my drift. I think it takes a while.
I think as long as they were only going to be gone for a few hours, the baby would have been okay with water, which he could suck from a piece of cloth, or given in tiny sips.
It wouldn’t satisfy his hunger, but it would prevent dehydration.
They didn’t find any canned milk in the food stores? Did I imagine that?
Yes, and it’s likely than Sun knows how it can be done. However, even if by some happy coincidence the required herbs were available on the island in sufficient quantities, it’s doubtful that it could be managed in time to be of any help to Aaron.
Not to mention that now that we’ve seen more of Ethan, we have no further idea how he was so nearly-supernaturally-strong. Remember, he hung Charlie from a tree WHILE kidnapping both Charlie and Claire. I guess maybe he drugged them both with his awesome will-sapping amnesia-inducing drug, but still, how do you hang a guy like that? And why?
Should have previewed. Didn’t mean to ignore you, Trion.
That was implied, but it isn’t clear, is it? Did we see anything that indicated that, or are we just taking Alex’s word for it?
She might have been motivated by the simple desire to prevent the baby from being separated from her mother – which could be expected to push some serious buttons for her.
Did we see any implements that indicated they intended to kill Claire? Or were they perhaps just preparing to induce labour?
I didn’t read it that way. I think he was telling her to “keep our little secret” as a way of manipulating her into trusting him more.
My take on Eko’s confession to Balloon Guy is that he thinks BG is with the Others, and he wants the others to think that he is a good person. There was some discussion from Goodwin about “good people”. Nathan wasn’t one. Clearly the Others have found ways to keep tabs on the Losties. Eko realizes this and may feel that ultimately there is not a lot they can do to keep the Others at bay. He just wants to be in their good graces when they come a knockin’ the next time.
It’s been a long time since I read it, but the only thing that stands out is that papa Karamazov had an antagonist relationship with his eldest son who (like all his children) was raised apart from him. If you wanted to stretch, you could say that this was kind of like Locke’s own daddy issues. You could stretch another way, too – because Fyodor has another bastard son who’s the product of a relationship with a mentally-defective woman, and this son grows up to be predisposed towards philosophizing, in spite of his menial position in life.
Apart from that – I got nothin’. Maybe I’m missing something obvious.
What did Gale overhear Locke saying about Hemmingway, and to whom? I missed that.
Locke was telling Jack that Hemmingway never felt that he was all that great compared to Dostoevsky and that he (Hemmingway felt he was always in Dostoevesky’s shadow.)
He said it was to help pass the time, but I also wondered if there was some underlying signifigance. I can’t remember anything about it, though.
Also, did anyone catch what Sawyer was reading this time, when Kate came up to him and asked for the gun? Usually we can see the title, but I didn’t see it.
Yeah, that didn’t make sense. But, the safe door does have a gap at the bottom, IIRC, so it wasn’t surprising that he could hear what was going on outside.
FWIW, it Hemmingway was an overly-macho manly man who liked to hunt and fish and really was pretty pathetic in my book. Because that’s what manly men with big ol’ balls DO.
Locke is dangerously close to coming into that territory IMO.
So…Dostoevsky - any similarities to Jack? Not the characters in the book, but the actual author himself.
I tend to cut him a little slack for his machismo. His mother was so disappointed that she didn’t have a girl that she simply pretended he was one and dressed him accordingly until he could articulate that he was unhappy with it. When you have to assert your gender from the very start, contrary to parental wishes, it’s natural that might become a habit to be somewhat conspicuous about it. But yeah, Locke is definitely casting himself that way. Maybe it’s a good thing the guns are out of his reach. (Sorry, Papa.)
BTW, here’s a really good Lost site that I usually visit. No spoilers, just a very good plot summary, written well, and containing some interesting speculation.
My memory is foggy on this one. We’re not sure about the fate of the the Tailies that got taken are we? Goodwin said that the kids were OK. But we don’t know if the adults met the same fate as Nathan, do we? Regardless, Eko probably wasn’t clear on their intentions.
