Lost 2.20: "Two for the Road"

I think Henry was able to communicate with his people via the computer during the time Locke was trapped under the door. I also think Henry planned to be caught by CFL. You would have to think that his people, who have her daughter, would know where she was, and would know where she’d planned traps.

I agree with Sam Stone that Michael’s been brainwashed. Because if he did have some crazy deal to get his son back in a trade, he might have stopped to think that Jack was already planning to trade Henry for Michael – and that Jack would probably have been willing to trade Henry for Walt instead.

Part of me is getting frustrated with the show. Go ahead and create tension and drama, but stop having everyone be so incredibly stupid.

Not only “that,” but “how:” he cut off the two little pigtails of beard that he had been growing since he killed those people… their deaths were a part of him, and, having apologized, he could cut those parts off and leave them behind and start building his church.

I was willing to consider it, until the food drop.

No food drops in Purgatory.

And speaking as a long-time Star Trek and Star Wars fan, if it hasn’t shown up on screen yet, it hasn’t happened yet and is therefore subject to change. The producers are also on record as saying that they didn’t expect this to make it to a second season, so they started out writing it by making it up as they went along with no vision of long-term continuity. We’ll know for sure what’s going on on that island when it shows up on the screen, and not before, and even then, it’s still subject to revision (see above re: Star Wars fan (Han shot first!)).

I’m going to have a hard time accepting that Michael would kill AnaL in cold blood just to save WAAAAALLLT.

Same here. In fact, the first thing I thought of when I saw his face and his actions was “The Manchurian Candidate.”

Same here. The look on Michael’s face seemed to be one of internal struggle/lack of control rather than anguish and guilt.

I’ve lost track. Of the Tailies who joined them, are we down to Bernard and Eko?

Numbers shout-out

Okay, so I need a little help here.

AnaL and the Good Doctor Tom Shepard are going to see his daughter. It is raining, nightime, and Patsy Cline is on the radio.

  1. On some previous episode, Kate is driving a truck and Patsy Cline is on the radio But it can’t be happening at the same time because it is daylight.

2)On some other episode, its raining, nightime, and Sawyer kills some innocent shrimp guy. But it can’t be the same rainy night because Dr. Shepard and Sawyer have already meet in the bar and they would have recognized each other when Dr. Shepard opens the car door on him in the parking lot outside the bar.

I’m thinking the Lost writers missed a golden opportunity here unless I’m misremembering something.

Them and Libby if she survives. I’m still hoping.

-Joe

No, I think you have it wrong. Dr. Shepard and Sawyer met up in the bar after Sawyer shot the shrimp guy. That is why Sawyer is so maudlin. So it is possible that both the visit to the daughter and the shrimp murder happened on the same rainy night.

Anyone remember this from one of the websites (I think it was Hanso, but I’ll spoiler it anyway) after Michael’s chat session episode :

They showed the screen when Michael asked ‘WHO IS THIS?’ but instead of the ‘DAD?’ reply it was ‘MOLE’. The question becomes whether Michael is now the mole or whether Henry was an attempt at a mole, or WAAALLLT has been turned into a mole.

I think that Michael shooting himself in the shoulder suggests that he was either intentionally wounding himself to let Henry escape or that he was being controlled. Outside influence makes more sense, since he could just as easily let Henry shoot him (though at least the only cop is dead; we don’t know what sort of forensic exam Jack or Sayid will come up with). Nevertheless the writers never miss an opportunity to be ambiguous.

My guess on Libby :
She’ll be unconscious for as long as it takes for Michael to disappear (however it happens). Then she’ll wake up briefly, give a death speech, and hit the road.

By the way, I watched the episode on ABC’s flash player and thought it was rather nicely done. They skip the last commercial break (and the timeline at the bottom shows when they will occur). The breaks are very short and I only had one commercial with audio (30 sec.). Nice way to catch one you’ve missed.

Are you sure? I thought it was Jack’s dad that inspired him to do what he came there to do.

So, does anyone have any spoilers as to whether or not Libby is dead and gone?

-Joe

That is the way I remember it.
How is Michael going to 'splain the powder burns on his chest to Jack?
How is he going to 'splain why AnaL was shot sitting on her ass on the couch and all the blood thereon?
In the previews:

Michael is standing against a wall with his arm in a sling. Does it look like he is standing in !Henry’s cell to anyone else except me?

Yeah, I know. Some of us try and fight Ignorance, others spread it in the cause of “trying to be funny”. Now, if they really were funny.

However, I am not convinced this really was a “whoosh” or an attempt at humor.

Ah, I hadn’t thought of that. I don’t know much about guns, though. Do they rattle? I thought it was chattering teeth because I could have sworn you could actually see his jaw moving.

Anyway, I can see what others have said about his actions being Manchurian Candidate-esque.

I may just be reading too much into minor details the writers only threw in for dramatic effect, but I’ve never felt we had sufficient reason to believe Henry had been intentionally captured. If that’s what he was attempting, why would he try to run when Sayid and Danielle cut him down, especially considering that he risked death by getting shot by Danielle’s arrow-gun? Why not just show up at Danielle’s hut, or the Losties’ camp, or wherever he supposedly wanted to go, present himself and say “hi, I’m Henry Gale, my balloon crashed on this island and I’ve just been wandering around exploring trying to find other people,” instead of intentionally allowing himself to be slung up in a net where he couldn’t be sure anyone would find him before he dehydrated to death?

I can’t find the picture right now, but I did see a screencap about a week ago of 2 fresh graves that were dug near Eko’s church.

How obvious are powder burns? Any special equipment needed? Would a neurosurgeon have the means and capability to analyze them?

Honestly asking here.

-Joe

Re: Powder burns

Michael’s story could be this; He went in to kill Henry, AnAl knew and was just sitting on the couch. There was a struggle for the gun, Henry shot Michael at close range and got the gun. AnAl assumed the shot was Michael killing Henry and stayed put. Henry walked out and shot her, Libby came in as he was escaping and he shot her two. No reason for it to be complicated. Include a little truth and it’s even better.
Re: Sawyer at the bar.
As I remember it Sawyer chickened out the first time he met NotSawyer(shrimp guy). So he went to the bar, had a chat with Jack’s dad something he said fired up Sawyer and then left and shot NotSawyer. Apparently he later went back to that bar or another bar and got in a fight with someone - whether that was Jack’s dad or not we still don’t know.

I thought the same thing. Plus, he has a kind of “evil” look on his face (to me). I wonder if he’s locked in the cell, and if it was because the Losties figured out Michael was the shooter. I also thought he might have locked himself in to blame Henry, but the sling kind of implied Jack had already treated him.

I recall hearing in the previews for next ep. Hurley saying something like “I’m glad you’re alive.” The only one it would make sense for him to say that about is Libby. I think Libby will survive for at least a few more eps.
