My first thought is ASCII values; the ASCII value 32 corresponds to a space, so when you’re looking at text as ASCII, you see 32’s scattered throughout the data like in the message (yes, I am an ultra-nerdy computer guy).

Unfortunately, the rest of the values map to jumbled up characters so it seems there’s another level of decryption to be performed if I’m right. Here’s the text assuming the ASCII hunch is correct (please verify if you’re serious about this, I easily could have messed some letters up):

It looked to me like she was digitally inserted. But why?

Possibly, they screwed up the second half of that scene, but the first half was ok, so they shot the last part again and inserted the ‘walker’ to seemlessly tie the halves together.

And the solution to the numbers has been found. I hadn’t included it since I didn’t find it myself (I need to do so with appropriate credit.) This is from www.thelostexperience.com (site has game spoilers).

[spoiler]I am pretty confident that this is correct. Doing the update on Monday May 8th would get the maximum exposure to the global work force surfing their computers at work on a monday morning.

Note: Do not worry about THF.org! That is apparently supposed to be an abbreviation for thehansofoundation.org. The owners of the real THF.org are getting pretty annoyed at all the Lost fans calling them since they have nothing to do with the game.

I’m guessing that’s why they changed the numbers. The new numbers have been partially decoded. From the same site as above:

The general assumption is that the phrase is an anagram of something, but I don’t think anyone knows for sure what it is yet.

Not completely sure about how they work, but we use them at the hospital to get emergency specimens to the lab quick without having someone run up or down the stairs with them. We have a few little torpedo-shaped things which hold the samples inside, and we put the torpedo in the tube, punch in what floor/ward we want it sent to, and off it goes.

I’m not sure exactly how Locke (or anyone) could find out where their tube goes. They could maybe put something in, attached to a string, and see how far it goes, but if it’s a twisty route, it could be misleading.

Apparently New York City used to have a 27-mile long underground system of pneumatic tubes to be used to transport mail.

I imagine it all depends upon the size of the power source.

This is probably a stupid question, but why didn’t Locke and Eko use the tubes to send a message about the crash? Something like, “We’re the survivors of Oceanic flight 815. HELP!” The video said that the tubes sent info to the head honchos at Hanso. Are the Losties afraid of the Hanso people? Or did it just not occur to them to send an SOS?

My coworker and I were discussing Lost yesterday. I said that the button pushing in the hatch was probably a psychological experiment. My coworker suggested that the entire SHOW is a psychological experiment – the creators keep feeding us little bits of information to see if we’ll call the number, navigate our way through the Web site, decipher the maps. Get us to push the button, in a sense.

That thought never occurred to me until she brought it up. Of course, she noted that she’s more than happy to be the producer’s lab rat. :slight_smile:

Heck, he could have just volunteered for hatch duty. Unless there’s some time-sensitivity, that would do the job just fine.

I suspect Michael was told to bring about AL’s death, whether by freeing Henry or killing her. He probably just did both for bonus points. Those people control Walt, or he thinks they do.

If Michael can’t get Walt back, he’ll join the Others if it’s the only way to see him again. Michael has nothing but Walt, so without Walt, he has nothing to lose.

I think we can conclude that this episode was a dud, relatively speaking. 24 hours after the show, and we’re only on page 3 of this thread. That’s less than average.

They have these at my bank’s drive-thru. As far as I understand, you need the tube to create a seal around which the vacuum will create suction. Placing a piece of paper in side will not cause it to “suck” especially since they did not push a button.

I have never been able to make the websites work properly. I have used several different computers. I don’t seem to be the only one. Maybe someone with more knowledge of website design can tell me, are the sites poorly designed or are they just being over used?
