Larry, maybe I’m just not understanding your logic, but 15 in binary doesn’t give you a prime number of ones. It gives you four of them: 1111. And 42 does give you a prime number, because it’s 101010 in binary, as far as Google Calculator is telling me.

As mentioned upthread, there was a brain fart involved and I set it down backwards. Reverse prime and non-prime. Non-prime number of 1s in binary conversion from 1 to x gives you the sequence:
1, 2, **4, 8, 15, 16, 23,** 27, 29, 30...
42 is the odd one out with a prime number of 1s.
Again, sorry for be ass-backwards with that. I got confuzzled.
