Lost 2.6: "Abandoned"

I dunno, Ana Lucia used to bug me, but after tonight’s ep she’s gone up a few notches.

About time someone put Shannon out of her self-absorbed misery. I’m not buying the fake flashback that suddenly portrays her as a nice person, just trying to get a break. Feels like retconning to me.

I don’t get “nice person.” I found her just as selfish and neurotic as she’s ever been, possibly even more so. She kept worrying about other people thinking of her as useless, probably because she thinks of herself that way but won’t consciously admit it. Classic depressive self-loathing, on a spiral into despair. Sad… but also incredibly irritating. Her character was played out, as far as I’m concerned, and I won’t really miss her.

And I said this before, so I’ll say it again: Ana-Lucia is grating, true, but I’m waiting for her flashback before I solidify my opinion. The show has surprised me several times; I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt until I know more about her.

Now, it’s quite possible she’ll still suck. Indeed, it may even be probable. It’s just that I don’t feel like I have enough information yet to make that determination.

There would be more comments, but I assume that people are too enthralled with looking for clues about the show on their new generation iPods.

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, GIVE US AN INTERESTING FLASHBACK SOON!!!

Bleh.

Could somebody spoil the last eight minutes of the episode for me? Damn storm, damn DirecTV…

Yeah. Boring. Boring episode, except for the last 20 seconds.

I get the feeling they wrote all the back stories for last season and are doing back stories just to stretch out the new season.

Every one of these bonus back stories have stunk this year, and added nothing to our understanding. That covers Walt-Michael, Jack, Boone-Shannon and Jin-Sun.

And now, they tell us that they’re going to pick up the stories of the rear-cabin.

You just know the production meetings after the first season went like this: “all right guys, we have a hit. Now let’s brainstorm ways to extend it indefinitely.”

Agreed, but I didn’t get a whole lot of nice out of that flashback. She started off kinda nice. Then she lost it after she freaked out at Boone for trying to give her money after she asked Boone to get money from mumsy-poo and if she could live with him. “Could you help me? Could you help me? I DON’T WANT YOUR GODDAMNED HELP!!!”

Hopefully this will take Ana Lucia down a peg or two. If not, I can’t wait to see her try that whole “I’m in charge” bit around Sayid. That will probably take her down several notches.

I’ll go on record as saying that I liked the flashback. It explained why she was lying to Boone to get money when she came from a wealthy family. Sure she’s dead now and it makes the flashback kind of silly, but I don’t think it took anything away from the story. It made her briefly a more complete character.

And remember kids. When a possibly dead dripping wet backward speaking child appears in the night and tells you to “shhhh,” you had better shhhh.

I’m just sad… I was a firm believer in the show. All these month long breaks in between eps are ruining it for me. Maybe if it was still weekly, and there were crappy episodes, I could still watch it, grudgingly, but with a sense of suspense. Now I just don’t care anymore. I’m still gonna try to watch the new episodes, or at least keep up with them here (what I’ve done for 2 eps so far this season… doesnt seem like I’m missing much). God damnit lost producers, wtf?

I think I’m putting that on a bumper sticker: “When Walt says ‘Shhhh!’ you better listen!”

Also, “Backward Speaking Undead Child” would be a great band name.

Some spoilers said that…

AL was not the one that kills Shannon. So, what if she’s not dead? Maybe AL shot her but it didn’t kill her. Maybe Sayid would be forced to put her out of her misery. Now that would be something.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t shocked by the episode. But there’s no way I was going to be the first to admit it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh I forgot. According to a Lost forum I’ve been reading. What Walt said played backwards is:

“They’re coming, and they’re close”

That’s AnaLuciaRambinaBitchita deLeon.

I don’t see any way that Shannon’s not dead. Maybe not dead instantly, but she’s gut shot. One way or another, she’s dead.

That was no gut shot… that was high and center…

She’s dead jim.

Now, is Sayid carrying his gun? and if not now, will he pick it back up after the revenge killing? (he said early on that he only carried it becuase he had something/someone to protect)

SHHHHHHH!!!

You gotta love this review snippet:

My GF says - that in this episode, Boone was played by a different actor than the actor from season one.

Now - I KNOW it’s the same guy, with a different haircut.

How can I prove this to her?

There’s $5 riding on this.

Anyone?

Well, in the opening credits of the show they said Ian Somerhalder was guest starring. You can’t get more direct than that.

My cut is two dollars.

Maybe not yours. I respectfully disagree. They did generally deepen my appreciation of certain character dynamics – Jin/Sun, esp. and to a lesser extent Walt/Michael. You’re conveniently forgetting the excellence of Hurley’s winning the lottery backstory, the bittersweetness of Locke’s romance with Helen, and the revelation of Jack meeting Desmond before they both were on the island and how it may have something to do with the miracle recovery of his wife.

I’m not convinced she’s dead.

But it seems very strange that they didn’t even spend 2 seconds looking for Cindy. I mean, maybe she went behind a tree to pee or something… Plus, if The Others are there, wouldn’t they want to know where they are exactly? Something just didn’t seem right about that.

Oh, and how about putting Sawyer’s arm in a sling at least.

Oh, good, it wasn’t just me.

So, how many people have died while it was raining, or is that just a coincidence, it being shot in Hawaii and all?
