Not saying this is the case, but a third possiblity may be that there were more than just Ethan and Goodwin waiting. Maybe a larger group, with each person assigned a section of beach? So that the pieces didn’t land where those 2 happened to be waiting, those 2 happened to be assigned to the places the pieces landed.
If I had the manpower, and we don’t know at this point if they do or not, that would kind of make sense to me even if I wasn’t expecting a plane. Anybody landing on the island could expect some type of fairly rapid response, even if it was just observation.
Just a thought, I could be wrong.
We’ve known for a long time that Ethan wasn’t acting alone. Charlie said “They only wanted Claire” after he was rescued from the kidnapping.
That was just a block of seats that broke free, probably close to where the fuselage came apart.
There’s littlle bits of wreckage here and there all over the place. Jack found a bunch of luggage, include his dad’s coffin (but NOT Dr. Christian Shepard!) by the caves.
Right. I didn’t think I was saying otherwise, but I can see the confusion. I knew that there were more of them, the larger group I was talking about was a group waiting for survivors to land, rather than just the two guys. So that Ethan & Goodwin wouldn’t have to know exactly where they were going to land and already be there, as was kind of suggested in the post I was responding to. Sorry for not being clear.
There is every reason to believe that the plane crash was not an “accident”, so it’s not crazy to think that some group would be anticipating crash survivors. And, of course, I’m not 100% convinced that plane crash was real in the first place. This could be some huge psychological experiment. That makes more sense than the idea that so many people could survive a plane crash…
Who are the Pirate 'Others" then? They didn’t looks as if they were in ragged clothes.
They were the *other *Others.
Kidding aside, I think there are many groups that can be called “Others”.
True, which is why I mentioned it as an alternative and not as what I thought happened (the “Not that I’m saying this is the case” part). I’m pretty sure I never said it was a crazy idea that it wasn’t just an accident.
I was going to add another post before saying
I guess I should have. Again, my bad.
This really makes so much more sense inside my brain.
Assuming there really was a crash at all.
Sheesh! There’s more people on this island than Manhattan!
We know the tail end was part of a crash. We saw it happen.
Something else has been on my mind: did anyone from the tailenders call these guys the “others”? I know they understood Jin when he said “utters!” but why would they know what he meant? The only reason Jin (and the viewers) call the Others the “Others” is because CFL called them that.
The tailenders would say “one of them” I believe. Or “those people”.
I course I have Frank Zappa in my head now:
“We are the Other people
We are the Other people
You’re the Other people, too –
We’ll find a way to get to you…”
Just so you know, I noticed it as well, but since I wasn’t the first to comment, I let it slide.
I think a comparison of writers/directors per episode might prove interesting.
Me too !
Note on chronology: in Season One, in the episode “Do No Harm” (which I believe is from the Hippocratic Oath) Boone died a day and a night after the Beechcraft fell off the cliff, not the same night. It’s dark by the time Locke gets him to the caves, then it’s daylight when Kate gets to the beach to collect alcohol; then later it’s night again, and Jack is totally exhausted from working on Boone all that time (he apparently did a makeshift surgical repair on his thoracic damage, sewed him up and donated his own blood, which was useless because it just pooled in Boone’s crushed leg). It’s dark again, Jack is preparing to amputate Boone’s leg, but doesn’t when he finally acknowledges that he just can’t save the patient.
So, there’s an extra day there (unless the daylight scenes are a huge continuity error).
As for Shannon – I watched the tape of “The Other 48 Days” again, and you can find ambiguity in the final scene. I guess it’s possible that Shannon and Ana Lucia were not even in the same scene. However, if that turned out to be the case, it would be such a stupid, insulting, pointless cheat that I might stop watching the show.
Just use your other hand.

Sorry for starting this thread a little early, and like Dante last week I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes.
I’m just at work after a couple weeks parental leave, (stainz and I now have a beautiful baby girl named Sophia!). Just for grins I went to the Hanso Foundation website and guess what there is new information there! It’s located under the Life Extension Project.
I have no idea what it means but I’m sure it will “show-up” in a future episode.
Here are my thoughts about what will happen:
From the Canadian preview, it looks like somehow Anna Lucia is keeping Michael, Jin and Sayid with the Tailies group and lets Mr. Eko take Sawyer to see Jack. How she does this I have no idea, maybe she convinces Sayid that she has more ammunition in her gun and she gets him to hand over his gun?
Anyway, enjoy!
