Lost 3.16: "One of Us"

Maybe it means that most of the time moves by in the form of flashbacks, up until now.

Another interesting revelation from this show, Mikhail had a shoot first then see who’s knocking policy before the plane crashed.

I hope we get to see the Others reactions to the finding of Mikhail’s body, and the blown up Flame. Then the reaction to finding out that Locke is responsible.

Dude. That was Scott.

But they are pretty damn similar!

Disregarding the ineffectiveness of the method, he already got someone else (Cassidy) pregnant not too long ago.

Oh, I am right there with you…

I had a really interesting thought while reading a book by Dr. Anne Simon on the science behind The X-Files, relating to this episode:
Apparently, in this study found here, scientists are proposing that the reduction of a tumour suppressor gene, p16, in human cells heightens the chances of a cell turning into a cancer cell–and reverting to a stem cell, with regenerative properties.

So maybe Ben developing cancer and the miraculous cures–Locke regaining the use of his legs, Jin’s supposed fertility–are somehow linked?

But then, Rose’s supposed cure throws that theory completely out of whack…
Revised flashback list (spoilers):

Brian

Random thoughts:

 • Ben most likely lied about sister’s cancer returning… makes his promise of curing her much easier to accomplish

 • Juliet’s expression after the showdown was priceless… pretty sure she was surprised it worked.

 • Jack’s a tool…

 • Liked the scenes at the radioshack… they had newsreports about flight 815 missing and searches for it, nice to know they didn’t just ‘disapear’ without any news.

 • Found out how the others know so much about the losties, atleast up to the point of the crash… we don’t know exactly how they get theier info, but it was post crash that they gathtered it.

 • Mention of Jacob, but we still don’t know who/what he really is

 • Goodwin - Unfortunately, Juliet has no ones * to kick for his death, since all but Bernard of the tail section seem to be gone… and him and Rose havent been around lately.

 • Still not enough info on why the others were there, or the Dharma side of the equation… from this episode the Dharma parts are already gone.

Referring to the link posted by N9IWP:
Hmm…Well, “Hercules” is wrong about 3:19 being the first flashback-free episode - the Pilot episode was flashback-free, and so (arguably) was 2:7, “The Other 48 Days”. I guess that one depends on whether a flashback is any scene that occurs prior to “current island time” or if it specifically refers to a character’s reminiscing.

The finale is Jack again, this time in a double-length? What could we possibly not know about him already? How about Hurley instead (love to see some encounter between him and Libby in the nut house)? Or Locke (we’ve had plenty of Locke flashback episodes, but he still remains so mysterious - how about seeing the Island through his eyes, or something similar)?
So, yeah, I guess episodes 3.22-23 will be the first ones I just skip since this series started. He has got to be the least interesting character of the whole show. For me, the whole season will be ending on a great big 'Meh". Way to go Lost writers. I’d rather see a Cindy flashback followed by a season ending Vincent cliff-hanger flashback.

Ditto the sentiment, though I’ll still watch slavishly. But, I mean, comeon. Two hours of Jack? Ridiculous. He’s boooring. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, maybe they’ll take this two hours to make him interesting again. There’s always hope.

Ben said to Mikhail he wanted a “complete file” (or something like that) on every person in the plane. My wife and I took this to indicate that they’ve got some kind of vast intelligence apparatus such that they can do really thorough “background checks” on anyone at all, practically at the drop of a hat.

But I’ve just decided I think these “files” are developed using some kind of method involving psychic powers. Remote viewing or something.

I think this to be the case because

–We know that people on the island (The Others and Dharma both, it seems) have been pursuing research on psychic abilities
–The kind of intelligence apparatus that would be required to know what they know about, say, Sayid, and Sawyer, as well as everyone else, would be just ridiculous. I mean, it’s fiction, so anything’s possible. But the certainty with which they are able to make declarations of people’s past seems to go beyond “We did a thorough investigation” to “We know for a fact that this happened” as though they had witnessed it themselves. I can’t otherwise account for their confident use of this information against the Losties.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

I don’t mind Jack really, but I agree we don’t need that much of him. I think the writer’s keep wanting to insist that he’s the star of the show. It’s an ensemble, we want to see someone else once in a while!

[sub]like Vincent[/sub]

They’d have to have a network as good as whatever Kaizer Soze had in The Usual Suspects.

A new glimpse into Ben’s morality: assuming the video of Rachel that he showed to Juliet was genuine, then either a) he had lied about Rachel’s cancer, or b) they can cure cancer, not just on the island but in Miami, and choose not to give that cure to the world. Fuck these people.

This time I saw the twist coming; first, because it made no sense for the Others to simply leave Juliet behind; second, because her quick admission about her first lie (to Kate when they were handcuffed together) is a sure sign that she’s admitting to a small lie to distract from a big lie; third because Claire’s illness was just too conveniently timed, even for this show.

I’d like to think that Jack is playing Juliet even while she’s playing him (just like I’d like to think that Locke is playing Ben); but nothing we’ve seen so far indicates that he’s that astute. Why the Hell do they look to him as a leader?

So, Juliet’s setting up house on the beach; is anybody going to discuss the idea of them all going to live in those nice empty houses with electricity and running water?

If the sonic fence keeps the TCM out, couldn’t it be used to keep it in. I mean what better surprise for the returning hostiles than a hungry TCM? I’m sure none of the Losties would think of it, but, hey, I bet they’d take heavy casualties if Juliet was legitimately afraid of the TCM. And I want to see a TCM flashback.

But the “files” that we have seen in the Others’ hands have involved thick stacks of documents, including medical records, which they probably obtained by means other than psychic powers.

Yeah, people in real life would never look to a less-than-astute leader.

Wasn’t that rather quick? That was right after the crash, they probably weren’t even due by that time, it seems rather quick for the media to get called in on that.
