Lost 3.18 "D.O.C."

They know enough to be really damned paranoid and confrontational with her.

Sun knows that she was told to come into the jungle secretly by a woman who snuck into her tent in the night and whispered at her not to make a sound.

Sure doesn’t sound like she’s on the up-and-up to me.

Therefore, stupidity virus again. Unless she’s got an ulterior motive, she can say all the same crap in front of her boyfriend and a couple guys with weapons, too.

-Joe

She was indeed. Remember, Juliet wanted to go off-island to try some experiments and Ben told her no. And then after the plane crashed he said something about her subject possibly being on the plane.

Remember, though, that Sun was highly motivated to keep the DOC information to herself. She would have wanted the ultrasound to be just between her and Juliet, because she certainly wouldn’t have wanted the whole island crew to know that she’d been having an affair.

I don’t remember - did Juliet even tell Sun that’s what they were doing before Sun let her lead her out to capture/dismemberment/death/ultrasound?

-Joe

I don’t think it makes sense that they could be in purgatory, because if they are, why were there so many corpses around?

I’m not sure and I can’t check our recording of it right now, because I’ll face certain dismemberment/death if I turn off the Koala Brothers as they rescue Lolly.

Ah, children’s programming. Something I’m safe from for another couple years.

-Joe

My usual random thoughts:
Liked the ep. Acting excellent as usual. Sun and Jin’s reconcilliation on island makes sense now. Missed Sawyer - fewer memorable lines, although Hurley & Mikhail (or his evil-er twin) had a few.
Why is Charlie so irritable with Des, who saves his life?
Still hate Juliet. Still love Desmond. Still hope Kate gets disillusioned with Jack.
Island folk want everyone to think there were no survivors of the plane crash, so no one will come looking for them and find their little miracle island.
Maybe the problem causing the mothers dying is due to the men’s island enhanced sperm qualities.

No, CFL would be a data point as well.

I liked this episode a lot. So, Sun made Jin become a hitman in order to protect him from his vengeful mother. Yikes!

I’m guessing that Sun will want Jack to give her an abortion and The Others will try to interfere. If what Juliet says about sperm count is correct, we can expect that Kate will become pregnant soon, if she isn’t already. Thing is, we don’t know what we can believe. Maybe Sun’s baby is actually further along than Juliet claims-- IANAD, but you aren’t going to tell the D.O.C. within a day using ultrasound. :dubious:

Two things, I think.

One, he’s fated to die and it’s grating on his nerves. Especially when you consider that in this case Desmond dangled Charlie in front of Fate’s Crossbow to get what he wanted.

Two, I think that Charlie (hated as he is by most of the SDMB Lost viewers) is actually trying to work things out regarding the island. He’s actually asking questions. He’s the one who said he’d been talking to other people so he knew who Mikail was, and that he was supposed to be dead.

Speaking of Mikail, who was getting very little thread time…

Anyone have ideas?

No, but you can narrow it down to within a week.

-Joe

Several, but none make sense.
Seriously, the only idea I have is that he knew they’d eventually reach the fence and smuggled along some sort of improbably death-faking drug to use in that eventuality. Either that or the Island “healed him.” Which it conveniently did NOT do for anyone else who’s previously died on the Island…

In the scene where he “died”, we noticed that you could actually see him breathing during one of the close-ups (I think Kate was hovering over him). My group thought at the time that it was a blooper, but maybe not.

I don’t know why none of the 4 Musketeers didn’t think: Hey, a satellite phone… The battery is dead, but let’s take it back to Sayid and see what he can do!

Well, they sort of did. Mikhail tried to steal it, and Jin ran after him to steal it back. So they’ve obviously got a plan for it. Hurley even made an imaginary phone call on it. Just because they haven’t said Sayid’s name doesn’t mean they think the phone is worthless.

In the podcast that followed the first sonic fence episode the producers all but came out and said, “he’s still alive. Nobody checked his vitals.” I’m pretty sure they actually did say, “don’t be surprised if he shows up again.”

It probably has something to do with his comment about healing on the island or he’s a zombie or he’s the TCM or he’s time-travelling. I’m so confused.

Yeah, my own guess was that he knew the sonic fence did something nasty and messy, but didn’t kill instantly.

As a matter of fact, it might be something that’s more of an electric fence (in the painful way), rather than an instant death fence. He just knew it would be messy and figured they’d leave him for dead.

-Joe

Well, I mean, or the fence doesn’t kill. The only person we’ve ever seen it zap was Mikhail, and Mikhail isn’t dead, so really we have no evidence that the fence is lethal at all. Maybe it just makes your ears bleed then knocks you out, so that you can be collected and studied, or whatever.

That seems like a more likely explanation than the raised-from-the-dead scenarios flying around, at least to me.

According to my newspaper today, the Season Finale will be May 23, and it will be a 2 hour episode.

Which might explain why he thanked them-- he knew he’d be able to escape his captivity.

lalala…not reading yet, since we’ll be downloading it and watching it tonight. Just subscribing so I don’t have to dig around in CS to find it again later.

I’m one of the few who likes the grouchy Charlie. I remember him (DM) when he was a spotty little boy on Hettie Wainthrop Investigates. I really enjoy watching the man act in a grown-up part.

I think Mikhail was simply not all the way dead and was healed by the Island’s powers, which he referred to when giving Helicopter Girl first aid. Maybe he said said thanks to Locke for letting him go instead of killing him.

Holy simulposts, Batman.
