Lost 3.22 "Through the Looking Glass" (SPOILERS)

I don’t remember hearing her say they found any survivors–she said there weren’t any. That’s not the same as saying they found all of the bodies, either. They found the wreckage in a deep ocean trench and probably didn’t recover bodies.

She still could be lying–or she could have been misled herself. Either way, I don’t think anyone has claimed to have identified bodies, just that the wreck was found and that there were no survivors.

I would assume that, given the large number of survivors, the helicopter would have to make several trips. No-one’s going to object to Claire and Turniphead being on the first trip (except perhaps Claire herself, given that she is unaware of Charlie’s death and is still worried about him), so perhaps after the first trip, something happens that stops the helicopter from coming back?

I have not heard anyone commenting on the fact that Aaron (turnip head) has aged more that he would real time, and or has been replaced with an understudy or two. How many Bayybees have been used to play the role of Aaron ?

I clicked on the http://oceanic-air.com/ link that was provided a little while ago. I noticed some text that was being ‘masked’ under the real text of the site. I pulled the following out of the source…

<sally>
If anyone should find this message, please get word I’m alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they’re getting worse…
Sally
</sally>

<robert>
I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.
</robert>

So has anyone else seen this? Is this old news? Who are Sally and Robert?

Part of the Lost Experience game that took place a while back. The Lost Experience Clues: Clue #17 - Related Websites Didn’t follow the game.

Yeah, that’s been on the Oceanic Air site since the beginning.

And someone upthread was talking about the Hanso foundation site; I think the message there has been there since the end of the Lost Experience last summer. TPTB have said that they aren’t planning on doing anything like it this year so I don’t think there is anything to be gained by looking too closely at it.

Also, TPTB have said that the information revealed in Lost Experience is “canon” as far as the show is concerned but have never said anything about the Oceanic site so, given that Oceanic is still operating at the end of the flash forward, I would say that we have to take what we see on the show over what is on the Oceanic web site.

Naomi strongly implied that all of the bodies had been recovered and identified from the wreckage… wether she lied or was misled has yet to be seen.

I stand corrected:

The Brig transcript | Lostpedia | Fandom

Somebody upthread speculated that it’s because the island sees the fetus as an invading entity to the mother. But could it be because just about all the Losties we know anything about have major parent issues. See?

But when she spoke about Charlie’s band, she seemed to be relaying first hand experience. I doubt that she could have been mislead about that.

According the Lostpedia, it’s “dozens”. Not only do they have to keep Aaron in pre-toddler stage, but it’s pretty much S.O.P. to have several extras filling in on any program that has an infant.

Actually, I believe that Naomi had just said that she’d seen a report that the wreckage of Flight 815 had been found, and that there were no survivors. She never said anything specific, like “Oh, they identified all the bodies” or anything. And it’s already been speculated in these threads that some organization (like Dharma, or Mittelos, or Widmore) could have faked such reports, or paid somebody off to do it.

So Naomi may have just thought that 815 wreckage was found with no survivors, because that’s what somebody wants the rest of the world to believe (and had enough power to make that become “the news”).

Yeah, I think it would be easy to overinterpret her words:
*
SAYID: You told my friends the wreckage of Flight 815 was discovered. Did you mean the partial wreckage?

NAOMI: No. They found the entire plane off the coast of Bali. In an ocean trench four miles deep. They sent down cameras in these little robots to survey the wreck. The bodies were all there. *

“The bodies were all there” doesn’t sound the same to me as “All the bodies were recovered and accounted for”.

Not sure what that proves. That a band from her home town suddenly became famous because everyone thought the bassist died? That could easily be true even if the wreckage wasn’t found.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying is untrue – are you saying that Naomi lied about there being a Greatest Hits album? If the news reported that the plane with found with everybody dead (regardless of whether they claimed to have IDed every body or not), or at least with no survivors – then even though that’s not true (because Charlie was still alive), if everybody thought him dead, then the band probably WOULD have released a Greatest Hits album. And Naomi very well may have witnessed the release of the Greatest Hits album. I’m not sure why this should be considered to be not true.

Possible scenario:

Truth: There were survivors of the crash, on the Lost island.
News sources report to general public: Wreckage found, no survivors. This is not the truth, but most people don’t know this. Perhaps the news was somehow manipulated by other powers that be. Perhaps reports of finding the wreckage were fabricated. If the news reports it, lots of people will believe it.

General public believes everybody dead. Naomi believes it too. Band releases Greatest Hits album in Charlie’s memory. Naomi buys a copy.

This seems plausible to me, and if so, then Naomi was only saying what she knew, or thought she knew.

Now, I think she was lying about other stuff, like why her ship was looking for this island… But I don’t think she was lying about the Greatest Hits album, or about hearing that 815 was supposedly found with no survivors.

Or are you saying that because of the flash forward, people in the future know that there were survivors of Flight 815 after all? If so, that may very well be. But remember that this future hasn’t happened yet as of the moment that Naomi lands on the island. So there may be a period of several months or years in which the general public still believes that all aboard 815 died. Charlie’s band would have released the album before Naomi came to the island, which means before anybody was actually rescued (and before anybody knew that there were survivors after all).

Yeah, my thoughts, too. Sounds more like, “The plane… it was filled with bodies!” rather than, “The little robots counted them, examined their teeth, and matched them up with dental records.”

I can’t imagine how that could be accomplished or who would pay for it. Of course, with this show, that’s almost irrelevant. :smiley:

‘Finding’ no survivors does not equal that there were no survivors… but Naomi’s comments still imply that they found the plane and atleast did a body count to say that there were ‘no survivors’… one statement is very different than the other (atleast in implication).

I’m still trying to figure out how they found it 4 miles deep, and in sufficient shape to send the ‘lil robots’ down…

It’s complicated.

That’s what gets me, too. Was the plane found intact or nearly intact that far down? Wouldn’t that be a strange thing to find?
