Lost 5.16/5.17 "The Incident"

Vincent!
Apollo candy!
Probably the Black Rock!
Jacob visiting people!

So is NotLocke the guy we saw at the opening?
I wouldn’t count Juliette out…

Did Richard reply in Latin? How soon translation?

Brian

I’m getting a strong fate vs. free will vibe, with Jacob representing free will (“whatever he told you – you have a choice”).

My take on tonight’s episode(s) is that yeah, Black Shirt has the ability to take on the appearance of other people, and has been impersonating Locke ever since the plane landed. For whatever reason, he is not personally allowed to kill Jacob, but he can talk someone else (i.e. Ben) into doing it.

I think this also means that Black Shirt has taken on the appearance of Christian, Mr. Eko’s brother, and Ben’s daughter, when those people have appeared postmortem. Also potentially Ana-Lucia when she pulled Hurley over that one time.

Jacob isn’t done.

Did everyone notice that every flashback (except Juliette’s) had Jacob going out of his way to make certain to touch the flashbacker?

-Joe

Which I suppose makes anti-Jacob aka notLocke aka Black Shirt (wonder which nickname will stick?) Fate.

Son of a - what wait ragggghhhhh.

Oh Lost, how I hate you. I need some serious time to decompress after this episode.
The thunderstorm crawl completely blocked the Sun/Jin flashback subtitles. Did I miss anything important? What did Jacob say to them?

Oh, I took that to mean that Not!Locke had found a loophole for himself, finding a way to come back to the “land of the living” using Locke’s body–well, not his body–aw man, we’re gonna need every day of the next eight months to figure all this out.

Poor Juliet has become Colonel Taylor, who as you’ll recall is found by the other astronaut at the end of BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES just in time to get shot by the mutants and use his dying strength to set off The Bomb.

Also, I think Black Shirt is also black smokey.

Will we be seeing a white smoke monster?

Did all of you notice the LOST background changed from black to white?

ETA: I know it sort of represented the bomb…nevertheless, it was an interesting switch.

Several threads ago, I talked about the idea that Locke, Christian, Ben’s dead daughter, and the smoke monster were all manifestations of the same thing. I’m a little more convinced of that now. I think they’re all manifestations of Anti-Jacob.

You know that circle of ash around Jacob’s cabin? I think it was there to protect him from the smoke monster.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s like that all of next season.
Maybe the opening “Lost” too.

Why you gotta make this about race?

Also, I love how Rose and Bernard were just chillin’ in the jungle with Vincent. “Yeah, we knew you were lookin’, but we were sick of the drama.”

Hmmmm…I like that idea. If Jacob really lived under a statue of Sobek, then he would have been the god fighting the smoke monster under the Temple.

I would have liked more info about Richard. He kept his damn shoes on the whole show…! Was he speaking Latin or ancient Egyptian?

I think that was their way of writing them out of the show. I think we’ve seen the last of them.

Agreed. It was a pleasant and well-done, but (in my opinion) final way of explaining where they’ve been and why we won’t be seeing them again.

I still think they might become “Adam and Eve,” as others have suggested in past threads.

Well we don’t know what the bomb did.

I’ll offer up Esau.

Sold!

What was Richard’s answer to what lies in the shadow of the statue?

I like MrWhatsits answer and am hoping it’s true
