Why can’t Richard have two compasses now? We don’t know Richard only had the compass because Locke gave it to him.
Also, this is coming up on other pages now, but I actually realized it right before I read it. I’m going to spoiler it, because it has to do with information that they showed only on the “enhanced” version of last week’s episode (“The Lie,” I think it was).
Ms. Hawking’s first name is Eloise; the girl who walked Faraday to the H-bomb was named Ellie. Coincidence?
So, if the H-Bomb was buried beneath the old Swan Hatch, did the whole button pressing business have anything to do with keeping it in check? And if so, when the hatch blew up… did the purple haze have anything to do with the bomb, the magnetic anomaly or… now I don’t even know what I’m talking about.
I think that chick on the island leading Daniel to the bomb was his mom too. First thing that occurred to me when she asked him why he kept looking at her.
Finding out they named the baby after Charlie was indeed a really cool and sweet moment. But what’s with all these babies!?
I loved Locke’s smug look when he found out that kid was Charles Widmore.
Why is Charlotte the only one affected by the time jumping? Will her head eventually go all ‘Scanners’ on us?
I hope we get to see them go back to the time of The Black Rock. If only for a moment. Same goes for the time of the 4-toed indigenous peoples.
Does anyone now think Charles Widmore has been so rotten to Desmond because he knew Des would eventually drag his daughter into the whole Island debacle? So he feigned disdain for him to try and keep him away from Penny?
Someone remind me then, in the Cabin Fever episode… did young Locke choose the compass? I forget.
But he didn’t obtain it from her, he got it from Locke. Remember, you can’t change the past. This episode implied that all these events already happened, and will always happen. Before 815 ever showed up, Richard had Locke come to him to tell him that he will be the leader in 50 years. That ALWAYS happened. It’s not a new event. That’s why he went to see Locke as a baby and as a boy. Because Locke told him to. So Richard always got his compass from Locke. And Locke always got that compass from Richard.
That’s something I don’t remember: how did Locke even know about Widmore? For the life of me, I can’t remember any interaction between Desmond and Locke; did Ben tell him that his enemy was Charles Widmore in the finale of season 4?
No, he picked the knife and Richard walked away, pissed off.
Oh. Well, then like someone above suggested, maybe there was more than one compass?
He explained it early in the season. He showed Widmore and his goons on tape beating up one of the Others who was on the mainland.
I just remembered. When Desmond and the doctor on the ship where mind-time jumping, they were having nosebleeds too. I think it was Daniel who asked if Desmond had been exposed to huge doses of EM radiation. Obviously he had from the hatch blowing up, but does this mean Charlotte has too? Seeing this, and loving her so much, why didn’t Daniel tell Charlotte about his “Constant” technique? Or is that only for mind-jumping, and not body-jumping?
I thought the point of having Locke give Richard the compass was that it was something Richard would recognize, meaning that he got it from God-knows-where before 1954 and that he must now have two compasses, or rather two of the same compass. I may be missing something, but why else would Richard have insisted that Locke give past, non-Locke-knowing Richard the compass?
That’s what I thought too, but Richard didn’t say anything about the fact that he already had the compass. I think he told Locke to give it to him because he remembered getting it from Locke.
I can’t let myself get too distracted by the compass with all these other fine mysteries going on. I want to take Others 101.
Thanks for answering my question about the title, gang.
Alright, enough with the compass. I forgot to mention my favorite scene: The Boaties are getting marched to Old Otherton and Miles senses that there’s two dead U.S. Army guys buried there and they were killed by the Others. And then Daniel asks him, “Did they say what year it was?”
Man, Miles and Daniel are the best additions to this show since Ben. I just hope Frank comes back.
One last thing about the compass:
Locke chooses both, but the knife was wrong (in Richard’s eyes). When that aired, I guessed the items in question were from the Black Rock, and Richard was looking for a reincarnation of Magnus Hanso. That’s probably wrong, but the compass and the book could still originate from the Black Rock. The sand must represent the island.
It wasn’t clear that Richard was convinced about Locke’s story until he mentioned Jacob. Richard could give the compass back to Locke after 1961 (while Locke is jumping through time) then obtain the original compass that he gives to Locke when the drug plane crashed.
Maybe following the compass will lead Richard to finding the compass?
When Desmond found out that Faraday had experimented on a girl, I thought for sure the girl was going to be Charlotte.
Also, I hope they don’t throw in the twist that Faraday is Widmore’s son.
It would have been cool if the time leaps were in intervals based on the numbers. Four years in the past, then eight . . . and Faraday had to stop the leaps before the sequence completed.
Nvmd.
Another connection:
Faradays time-jumping mouse was also named Eloise.
so with flame arrows and minefields, Is there anyone left of the background survivors of 815? How many 815 survivors are left now?
Yeah. I hope that kid has his father’s last name and not his mother’s. 'Cause that could get weird.
Nevermind–asked and answered
aside from “main characters” and those who went with the others (kids and a few adults)…it looks like only Rose, Bernard and Vincent remain
It sure could! As in:
Desmond, Penny, & baby Charlie somehow end up on the island and jump back to 1935. Desmond & Penny get badly hurt. As they’re about to die, Richard comes across them. Penny says: I am Penny Widmore, this is my son Charlie, please take care of him. Des & Penny are Adam & Eve; baby Charlie is Charles Widmore and therefore is his own grandfather.
This may tie in with Futurama but I haven’t figured out the details yet
Exactly! Only in my version, given the paralells between Charles Widmore and Ben Linus, Charles adopted Penny. Or at least stole her from a crazy french lady.
I’m calling it.
