I refer you to BACK TO THE FUTURE for an example of how they could address that paradox–that there’s “temporal inertia”. Changes in the past take time (you know what I mean ) to ripple forward to the present.
Granted that’s entirely inconsistent with how it’s been described in the show, but frankly, of the people who understand time travel at all, even a little, Desmond is the only one I trust.
Did they? As far as I know, there was only one drop and wasn’t it after the big “button didn’t get pushed” flash? If so, that could have been a time-lost Dharma-jet.
I stand corrected. The only post-Kelvin food drop we saw was during Lockdown. But the Flame computer could be used to set up another drop by entering 24, had Locke not blown it up by entering 77. :smack:
I think the food drops all occured during the Dharma Initiative’s time on the Island. Some changed ‘time zones’ on the way down to the Island from whatever safe altitude they were dropped from. “What? You didn’t get the last food drop? That’s the third time this year! Well, I guess I’ll just schedule another one.”
I also think that the 70 hour time window/deadline that Ms. Hawking (Lady Time Cop) gave Ben corresponds to a period of time (in 2008) that the time-jumpers will jump to for a while. The O6 must arrive before the time-jumpers jump again in order to sync up with them.
Wild guess:
What if Danielle is off taking a pee when Jin disappears right in front of the men in her party. They tell her about it, but she thinks they offed him and made up a ridiculous story to cover it up. This is when she begins to think that they’ve gone mad and starts taking the firing pins out of their rifles.
Oh and BTW…did anyone notice how it was raining cats and dogs for the Losties in the canoe at the same time (episode time, that is) it was quite spontaneously raining cats and dogs for the Losties in LA?
Thanks, ZipperJJ. I must be losing my Google Fu powers.
I noticed the rain too, but I think it’s probably just coincidence. It may have started raining in the middle of filming the ‘L.A.’ scene (which was probably shot in Hawaii where sudden rains are common) and they just went with it.
The Hawaii filming is not just for the jungle or beach scenes. Very little, if anything, is shot outside of Honolulu or the island of Oahu. I can usually immediately identify the location of each scene; the only time I’m unsure is when it’s shot on government or military property. Many of the cast lives on the island full-time during filming, in the same general area the Others’ colony is located.
Well there was the one jungle scene with Kate in this episode. According to Lostpedia some of it was archival footage of Kate and Clair, but some (the Sawyer POV stuff) was new footage shot with Kate and a stand-in.
[sub]In other news; my Google Fu powers appear to have returned.[/sub]
Something about Jin been bothering me. He managed to survive the explosion, which appeared nearer to the helicopter then the island. The folks on the island see smoke (presumably the freighter exploding) and then the time-shift occurs. How did Jin get “included” in the time-shifting?
I was thinking about that today, and I think it can be explained by the scene from last year where the body of the doctor from the freighter washed up on the beach. We saw that he was killed later on the freighter (later freighter!), so as his body drifted to the island, it travelled back in time by a day or so. The same thing could have happened to Jin; he floated to the island in a similar way, so he arrived there prior to the point in time that the jumps started.
