How was it that Wickman had Jack’s name and job, when we saw in the next cut, with Kate, that Juliet had not yet brought the updated list in yet?
I don’t remember exactly how it went down but I thought that Juliet found out that there were only two expected recruits that didn’t make the sub so she updated the list to include Jack and Hurley as those to “recruits”. There wasn’t another spot to fill so she had to generate an entire additional manifest to include Kate in it. I’m fanwanking that it took a little longer to do this than just replace to two missing recruits names with Jack and Hurley.
Also it set up a little drama as to whether Juliet was hanging Kate out to dry… she certainly wasn’t particularly happy to see her.
The lack of communication is really grating at times. Why not get the whole gang together to brainstorm about what to do and how to get Sayid out of the cell? Why would Sawyer want to try to think through all this stuff all by his lonesome?
Also, why would Sawyer have opted to hang out with DHARMA instead of the Hostiles? It seems he could have asked Alpert to help him since, apparently, both Sawyer and the Hostiles have a common interest in seeing Locke return.
We were supposed to think that Juliet is a jealous, manipulative bitch and left Kate off the register on purpose so she would be cast out as a Hostile. Added some tension for the viewer.
Juliet did probably leave Kate hanging on purpose, and meant for her to get a little nervous before swooping in with the registration. Just to flex her “I’m the woman in charge now, bitch” muscles a bit.
Oooh - good question!
I was assuming that Sawyer was having some fun in making Jack’s aptitude tests point to “workman”… then again he most likely just stuck Jack’s name on some papers from one of the people who backed out at the last minute. Still doesn’t answer the disconnect in time that you mention above.
Jack: Locke’s dead.
Sawyer: How did he die?
Jack: It doesn’t matter … he’s gone now.

We all keep forgetting that Jack/Kate/Sawyer/etc. are not the audience. They really don’t care at all about what dharma was up. Or who Jacob is. Or what the statue was. And so on.
I’m thinking that the creepy guy that Jack asked about Sawyers house is going to get suspicious and rat out the whole Lostie operation.
So how long until that one suspicious Dharma guy gets too much information on the Losties and they need to off him/torture him?
ETA: Didn’t see you there on preview, Johnny Q!
If it makes you feel any better, the actress is actually 35.
It does. Thanks
And William Mapother (Ethan) was almost 40 during season 1 of Lost. However, according to the show’s mythology, he was 27.
Either there’s something to these weird ages (if the little girl in 1974 was Charlotte would be another one) or this is a rare mistake for the Lost writers.
“Also, why would Sawyer have opted to hang out with DHARMA instead of the Hostiles? It seems he could have asked Alpert to help him since, apparently, both Sawyer and the Hostiles have a common interest in seeing Locke return.” -
Excellent question, Bearflag. Of course there’s a lot we don’t know about how/why our flashing losties melded with Dharma.
It could simply be that Dharma Village is a lot more comfortable than camping in the jungle. I think he’s had enough of roughing it.
It was a rough 27 years? Wasn’t Ethan the Other’s original doctor? So if he was kidnapped by the Others as a child did they send him to Harvard Medical School? If so maybe that’s why he looks older, different time zones and all.
Best lines:
Hurley’s “Oh … what?”
Sun’s “I lied”
I’ve really lost track of this show. Can someone tell me again, who are the Others/Hostiles, and what do we know about them and eyeliner guy? Why are they on the island? What’s their agenda? Did they get there before or after Dharma?
What exactly is Jack’s dad (Christian?)? Was his body resurrected by the island like Locke, so that’s really him, or is that vision-Christian?
Well, OK, but the Hostiles also have a hell of a lot more info about the island than Dharma. You would think Sawyer would rather go camping with vastly greater knowledge than live in a cabin without.
who are the Others/Hostiles?
A group that has been on the island for a long time before Dharma
, and what do we know about them?
Not much more than that. They are led by Richard Alpert, the eyeliner guy, but they are looking for their true leader … supposedly Locke. Ben, formerly of Dharma, was the hostiles’ leader after he purged Dharma to death.
and eyeliner guy?
Richard Alpert, the eyeliner guy, never ages. He leads the hostiles apparently until their true leader emerges.
Why are they on the island?
Unknown
What’s their agenda?
Unknown
Did they get there before or after Dharma?
Before, but the timing is unknown. The hostiles have been there at least since 1954. Dharma showed up in the 1970s. Some speculate the Hostiles are an ancient people, others think they may have arrived on the Black Rock ship in the 1880s.
The Others/Hostiles are Richard (eyeliner guy) Alpert’s group. Unknown how long they’ve been around but it’s been at least since the 50s when young Charles Widmore was part of their group. They seem to answer to an unknown figure known as “Jacob”. Dharma people arrived in the 60s and young Ben arrived in 77’. Richard recruited Ben as a young boy from Dharma and later convinced him to kill all the Dharma people. Their agenda is unknown but claim to be protectors of the island and seem to be searching for an ever changing leader (Widmore, Ben, Locke).
Nobody knows what Christian is but his body did disappear from it’s coffin after the original crash. He comes and goes mysteriously and has even appeared to Jack off the island. He has appeared to Jack, Claire, Locke, Sun, and Lapidus.
Ah, thanks a lot Hampshire and Bearflag, that helps. I was afraid I forgetting even more than I already have.
