BTW, now that we have “Clusseau”, we kinda sorta have “Goodyer”. Sawyer was sent to spy on some recent arrivals (like Ethan and Goodwin), and bring details back to the leader. True, he didn’t infiltrate in the same way, but given that the sub crew all knew each other, he couldn’t pretend to be one of them.
Jesus. Emerson even makes “Mmmm cake” sound evil.
What can the cake thing possibly be from? And how did Mitchell even make that sexy?

Just re-watched it.
Very interesting parallel between Sawyer’s flash sideways and his adventure on the Hydra Island. A con’s bluff called w/ back-up.
What is in the locked room on the sub? What does Widmore have that is a secret weapon on the Island? Aaron? Baby Kwon? Probably the latter, based on his involvement with Sun.
Smokey had a crazy mother. Is there someone in ancient mythology how had a crazy mother?
I’m starting to think that the Jacob/MiB replacements will be Aaron and baby Kwon.
My first thought was Grendel
My first Smokie’s mom thoughts went to Gaia and Lillith.
*Gia *was on TV here last night. Watching Mitchell have naked sex with Angelina Jolie reassured me that all was right with the workld.
You’re not the only one saying that, but I just don’t understand the sentiment. We’re not seeing major new characters that are going to get their own flashbacks or be candidates, etc. Widmore’s group are just an extension of Widmore (did you expect him to arrive alone??), who is a very old character. The Temple group are just an extension of The Temple, and the Others, also introduced quite a long time ago. These are all just background people, half of whom have been killed already lol.
Smoky has never gone near the beach, so maybe he can’t travel over water in smoke form. OTOH there’s no obvious reason he couldn’t have impersonated a dead Dharmite or Other and left on the sub, so there must be some other reason he’s trapped. Killing Jacob wasn’t enough, because he still had to raid the Temple, but raising the Temple didn’t do it either, since he still needs to get to Hydra Island.
I agree - imagine the timeline split as a Y - the Losties from the left fork travelled back in time into the main branch, and created the split, at which point a duplicate universe was created with a different future, but a shared past.
It does seem clear from Ben being off the island as well as possibly Miles and Charlotte’s full set of parents, that the island did not sink with the bomb. The Losties didn’t really intend that anyway. They were just trying to seal the electromagnetic rift under the Swan so that the button pressing would never have to happen. So probably something else happened after that to sink the island.
I don’t think the bomb is what sunk the island either. In fact, I don’t even think the bomb caused the alternate timeline. I think all it did was send the time-displaced people back to the present and stop the time jumping.
I think (at least hope) that somehow the alternate timeline will be revealed to be the “original” one, and somehow, someone’s actions will cause the timeline we know and love to split from it. It would be a nice, Lost-worthy twist, making us think that the ATL is “new” and later revealing it to be the original, plus then they could end the show in the regular timeline. I don’t want the show to conclude in the ATL, because it just wouldn’t feel right.
Which brings up the number one question I have right now: what actually happened in 1977 from the point of view of the 2007 timeline? Everyone’s trying to figure out how the bomb going off leads to the sunken-island LA-X timeline (and that’s indeed a good question), but now I’m more curious as to how the split in the timelines leads us to 2007. Assuming the history of both timelines was the same up until Juliet hits the bomb (which may itself be erroneous, but lets go with it for now), how did things progress to bring us to 2007? Juliet hit the bomb, a white flash happened, then the next thing we know for sure is what?? Desmond’s boat crashes on the Island and he get pulled into the “press the button” business? Which means that, despite whatever happened in 1977, the Swan station was built, the button-pressing business continued for almost 20 years, then Desmond screwed it up and flight 815 crashed? But why would the Swan have been built in the first place if Juliet was successful in setting off the bomb?
This seems to indicate that, in the 2007 timeline, Juliet did not set off the bomb, and thus the Swan was built to prevent an “incident,” which it did until Desmond screwed it up. Okay, but then how do we explain how Ben got to be “Otherized,” which happened as a direct result of the time-travelling Losties who eventually set off the bomb?
See what I mean? Some of the 2007 timeline seems to be a direct result of the actions of the time travellers (i.e. Ben being Otherized), while some seems to be the result of a non-time-travel-affected past (i.e. the bomb not going off). How can those two be reconciled?
I think this too. Possibly a side effect of the candidates not being able to kill themselves (like Jack’s dynamite). They were sent back to the future because they weren’t allowed to kill themselves in the explosion.
As far as why MiB is trapped, I think it had something to do with Jacob keeping him there. MiB probably thought killing Jacob would release him, just like killing Dogen would allow him to enter the temple. However, I think he found that Jacob’s death didn’t free him and he’s still trapped. He now needs one of the candidates to take Jacob’s place, at which point that person can allow him to leave. I think that’s why he’s protecting them now.
It always seemed to me like the time travel was in a consistent timeline where Daniel was right and you couldn’t change things. It could be they got time jumped right as the bomb went off (due to not being allowed to kill themselves, for example) or maybe the bomb didn’t go off at all. I don’t think they changed anything. I’m hoping Richard’s episode next week will reveal whether the bomb went off or not since he would have seen it if it happened. The bomb going off also may have been the incident that caused the swan station to be built. Maybe that energy pocket absorbed the blast.
This new flash sideways seems to be a completely alternate reality. I think that timeline is basically what happens after the end of this season. Or like someone else said it could be what happened before the first season. We’ll have to wait and see.
Well, maybe the bomb did go off, and saved the island, rather than sinking it. Maybe it “sealed up” the incident somehow so that Dharma had enough time to construct the Swan station. In the alternate timeline, the losties aren’t on the island to set off the bomb, so the incident runs out of control and eventually sinks the island.
I noticed a long time ago, in early seasons that a lot of the extra 815 survivors looked like the main cast. I think I read somewhere that the actor’s stand-ins are also used as extras since they don’t have a huge pool of extra actors in Hawaii.
I know it’s sometimes painful to read YouTube comments but the answer was in there, it was a promo for KAKE which is a local ABC affiliate or some such.
Wichita? They got a bunch of the stars to do a promo for Wichita? I figured it was going to be LA or something.
And you’re damned right I don’t read YouTube comments. Dumbest crap on the planet.
-Joe
Which is why I read them because they give me a good laugh.
That would fit with the Adam and Eve skeletons. One of my friends who is obsessed with the show says that during the scene where Claire’s boyfriend Thomas dumps her 6-7 months into the pregnancy, you get to see a bunch of his paintings that he had at their apartment. One of the bigger paintings later shows up in Charles Widmore’s office. She thinks that Charles Widmore is Thomas’ father and Aaron’s grandfather. She, long ago, had the theory that Jacon was Aaron all grown up, but Smokey’s confession today makes me think that Aaron will be the new Smokey.
Can you explain that? Maybe I’m being thick, but I can’t see why.
That’s exactly what I said when I saw her!
They almost seemed like they were, with Miles’ “you have to tell me everything!” speech and his running Sawyer’s credit card to find out where he was.
I think someone else mentioned this, but I really think Charlotte WAS digging through Sawyer’s stuff. The way she jumped up and kept looking back over her shoulder to see whether he was coming seemed pretty suspicious to me. And there were plenty of shirts on top… drawers are a classic hiding place; why would you look at any non-clothing item you found unless you really were snooping?
Could someone spell out exactly what the comments were that made a couple of people say that? I didn’t get that impression.
Thank you! I couldn’t remember the names, and it was driving me crazy. I knew they were originally a boy and a girl, but in this week’s episode it really looked like two girls. Aaargh… My new DVR is being installed as I type this; it will be so nice to be able to go back and check this stuff out again.
Ah, that’s why I sorta but not really recognized him. Damn, Chip sure grew up to be homely.
Maybe it was like the Swan, where it was really hard to get in, then suddenly, oh yeah, let’s just use the back door from now on! ![]()
Remember ALF? He’s back! In creepy crazy Aussie lady’s baby form!
Even island Sawyer likes “Little House” as he calls it. Remember he took a little grief for that in an earlier season.
They did sound a little off, but more like the tape was playing the wrong speed than it not being their voices. I’m not even saying it was the Lost producers altering it, I’ve seen episodes of Little House (go ahead, laff it up fuzzball) on TV Land with the same “slightly off” quality to the sound.
Damn, Kate and Allie, ALF, Little House, could they throw in a few more references to shows I watched as a kid next time?
Haven’t seen anyone mention it yet, but the books on Alt-Ford (he doesn’t go by Sawyer in that timeline that we know of!) anyway, the books on his dresser were all books Sawyer had been seen reading on the island. That was a nice touch.
