Lost Mafia/Werewolf/Psychopath

I think a more important plan to implement is: everyone must give documented reasons for your votes. Scum have to invent reasons to vote for Town, so the more we force everyone to be explicit with their cases, the more we force scum to lie, and the better chance we have to catch them in those lies. I’ll be looking at voters who don’t articulate good reasons carefully, and I suggest we hold ourselves to a high standard (even on Day One, when there is admittedly almost nothing to go on).

All I can say, is that is very hard for me not to jump in every second here. I’m trying, but this game does seem a LOT more active than crimson. Can a fellow crimson player confirm this for me?

Play over. Down to business:

On providing second and third votes.

Why?

I mean, I don’t know if you guys read the scum boards for Crimson. I had Mahaloth [As a player in Crimson Glyph] on the ropes, and once he saw my claim list, he was overjoyed that I wasn’t going to vote for him. He took this (and other information) to his advantage.

There is NO reason to provide an ordered list. Especially when it is more than two people

I have no problem with

It’s a toss up between Abby and Becky, but I’m going to vote Becky because she tore the do not remove tag off my mattress.*

I take issue with:

I would vote in this order Becky, Abby, Christine, Dianne …

I mean, Mafia changes. People change. I dare say we will at once “figure out” this game, only to have it get turned on it’s head.**

  • Obviously not a real reason in game, but then again, it’s not like Abby and Becky are playing with us. – An OMGUS vote is even scummier. - No reason at all

** WAG / WIFOM on my part here, I am just saying, if a bandwagon had formed after my first day vote on Chronos in Crimson, we would have been out our Politician on day one.

The fact is this, the game can NOT be reduced to simple math. It is a fuzzy logic game, not instructions on a flow chart.

Listing multiple people can NOT help town.

Another thing about weekends falling during the Day: While it’s true that some people can’t get on as much over the weekend, there are also some folks who can get on more over the weekend, or possibly even not at all during the week. I suspect that the net effect will just be that we have a mostly different set of folks posting at the beginning of the Day and at the end.

If you expect that you won’t be on as much during the weekend, though, it might be a good idea to say so, so nobody’s suspicious when you sit out of the post-Dawn discussion.

**Most of the Survivors were unable to sleep during the Night, but despite their concerns, no one was killed or even injured during the Night. Conversation was intense, whispering between the Survivors was constant, but nothing of interest occurred.

Tensions, however, are higher than ever as the sun comes up on the Island.

It is now Day One.

Day One will end on Wednesday, June 17 at Noon Eastern Time.
**
**
Additionally, I have one substitution to make:

storyteller0910 is in the game for GuyIncognitto.**

Good point. I probably won’t be on much over the weekend, at least not nearly as much as during the week.

Welcome aboard, storyteller!

Indeed, welcome aboard!

Now, storyteller, why is it that you decided to be scum?
:stuck_out_tongue:

yawns. I so didn’t sleep well last night. I think I should take out my frustrations by being part of a lynch mob. Sound good to anyone?

I’m the same way. I’ll be arround, except for nect weekend, but I won’t be nearly as active since I’ll be posting from my phone so no quotes or long posts. Not to mention we’ve got the 4th of July comming up.

In the past when Days have been on weekends people have been pretty quiet.

Because I wanted another chance to railroad ShadowFacts, duh.

I mean… er…

So, a bit of re-reading, and then back with substantive contribution presently.

Why, I oughta…

FWIW, I think Oredigger’s plan is not a bad one, but it might be difficult to come up with 2nd an third choices, especially early in the game when there’s not much to go one, and really late in the game when there’s fewer players (although it might be largely unnecessary at that point). The main purpose would be to get a jump start on future discussion. If a person isn’t around to see that their second choice vote has said something that makes them scummier/more deserving of a vote than the first choice vote, it’s not like they can change the vote. If that makes any sense.

Glad to see you aboard, storyteller. You’ve played some great games in the past.

Of course, I can’t trust you for a minute because of those great games, but welcome anyway.

  1. I don’t like the listing suspicions idea at all, but that ground’s been pretty well-covered. As a werewolf in the other game I sure would have liked such an obvious blueprint for manipulation of the vote counts.

  2. I might not be around too much this weekend, either.

Just as soon as I get my Mafia Noob hat off, I get a LOST Noob hat thrust back on.

To anyone who wants to field it:
**
How many characters are “Ambiguous” ?**

Would knowing a number here, help determine how many Town/Survivors we are, and conversely how many Scum/Others we are?

Would the Others remain relatively UN-ambiguous? As I understand it, Others apparently are on the Island before Survivors “landed”. Correct?

Therefore, wouldn’t Others be, less likely to be ambiguous? They aren’t likely to have reason to change method and procedure. They have a set course, and no reason to let paranoia set in.

WIFOM:

Scum are not ““Ambiguous””. I would think that those commenting on NOT being ambiguous are more LIKELY to be scum.

Then again, WIFOM.

So, I figure I should say that I have absolutely 0 knowledge of the color. Just for the record.

Ok.

I just re-checked the “Lostpedia” on my role.

Having no real clue on the show works, someone just reading one article gets more questions than answers. That being said, I have read what other people have been saying in the game, since I first checked my role. **Given what I have read, and how the Lostpedia is laid out, I feel I can make the best guess I can, shy of watching 5 seasons of the show. **

My role / alignment and my character match.

To add to this: if you do happen to find someone or their behaviour suspicious it is worth bringing it up. It is not always the best strategy to raise it then and there - it really depends on the situation - but it should be queried as soon as it is appropriate.

In other words if you have a second vote don’t be afraid to voice it - hang onto it for too long and you might not get the chance to make your case.

This is exactly what I meant to get at, when I was talking about ““Abby”” and ““Becky”” , if you are nearly tied with to people to vote for, say that, and then give the reason why you are voting for who you are voting for.

Don’t make up a second vote, if you don’t have one, but if two people are pinging you, make it known.

I don’t think that listing a third vote will prove all that helpful. At that point, it will be two days out before you can act on it - anything and everything might happen in those two weeks.

OK, am caught up. Have these things to say:

  1. I see that post editing is permitted in this game. I hereby announce my intention to regard with considerable suspicion any post editing that occurs. This has been covered, so I won’t belabor it, but don’t edit, Townies. It’s not really that awful to read a botched quote tag.

  2. I regard a mass name claim as most likely to benefit neither side. In a well-designed game, mass claim tactics usually won’t swing the game in any direction. It’s not likely to break the game in our favor, and it’s not likely to cripple us. That said, if character names do align perfectly with alignment, a mass name claim would benefit us considerably. Some few players have indicated that their names do in fact, conform to the canon, but of course, they could be lying. On balance, I’d describe myself as somewhat in favor of a mass name claim, but not enough to waste a whole Day arguing about it.

  3. I am opposed to “lurker lynches,” or really any kind of reflexive or automatic voting systems, on the grounds that they provide zero information, have no better chance of finding scum than guessing, and usually don’t even achieve their intended purpose (voting for JimBob because he’s not posting isn’t going to be worth much, because usually JimBob is not posting because he’s sick or can’t get to his computer or what have you, and he wouldn’t be posting whether he were Scum or Town, and your vote isn’t going to make him well or get him to his computer).

  4. On the setup:

With 3 Scum (vs. 14 Town), we’d have a total of five free mislynches (losing on the sixth). With 4 Scum (vs. 13 Town), we lose immediately following our fifth mislynch. With 5 Scum (vs. 12 Town), we lose immediately following our fourth mislynch.

No matter what, we do not get a free mislynch from a blocked or otherwise prevented Night kill. If there’s a Vig, a successful kill of Scum does not get us a free mislynch. However, a Vig who accidentally hits a Townie does cost us a mislynch. In other words, whatever number of mislynches we have, we will need a lot of hard work from the power roles to increase it; however, if there’s a Vig and (s)he chooses poorly, they can decrease it more easily than we’d perhaps like.

I’m not sure how many Scum to expect; it really depends on the number and type of power roles allotted to the Town.

  1. On the color: actually, this needs its own post. More presently.

REGARDING LOST

I know some players have been saying that they’re completely unfamiliar with the canon. I am… uh… not unfamiliar with it. I have no idea if the color is going to come into play at all in this game. But it might, and the folks who don’t know the show should at least have some inkling. So, here’s a quick primer on what’s relevant.

Characters on Lost can broadly be divided into two groups: those who were on Oceanic Flight 815 when it crashed (let’s designate them “Survivors”) and those who were not.

Now, based on the color set-up, most of those who were on the plane are likely pro-Town. However, it is absolutely not impossible that a survivor or two winds up siding with the others. All of the below assumes that this game hews tightly to established canon; if Mahaloth has gone way afield in assignment of roles and alignment, then it’s entirely worthless. Also, be warned: MANY SPOILERS BELOW.

The Survivors split into two groups: The Fuselage Survivors, and the Tail Section Survivors.

FUSELAGE SURVIVORS

  1. Jack Shepard - Spinal surgeon, leader of Men, total douchebag
  2. Kate Austen - Escaped fugitive, ruins everything, rocks a sweaty tank-top like nobody else on TV
  3. James Ford (“Sawyer”) - Con-man, brooding bad-boy, gives everyone nicknames
  4. John Locke - Creepy man-of-nature type, shares a special bond with the island, was paralyzed when he arrived and not paralyzed on the island.
  5. Claire Littleton - Young, single, pregnant girl. Whines frequently.
  6. Charlie Pace - Heroin addicted, hobbit-like bass player for a defunct one-hit wonder rock band.
  7. Jin Kwon - Korean mob enforcer, husband to Sun. Does not speak English.
  8. Sun Kwon - Daughter of Korean mob boss, wife to Jin. Speaks English.
  9. Sayid Jarrah - Former interrogator (read: torturer) with the Iraqui Republican Guard. Good with electronics.
  10. Hugo Reyes (“Hurley”) - Fat man, very unlucky, the conscience of the group, secretly a millionaire.
  11. Shannon Rutherford - Snotty blonde bimbo, rich.
  12. Boone Carlyle - Snotty brunette himbo, stepbrother and sometime lover of Shannon, above.
  13. Rose - Older woman, cured of cancer by arriving on the island.
  14. Leslie Arzt - Science teacher, redshirt, blown up
  15. Nikki Fernandez - Actress, jewel thief, moron
  16. Paulo - Jewel thief, also a moron
  17. Michael Dawson - Construction worker, constant screamer.
  18. Walt Lloyd - Teenager, possibly psychic, son of Michael
  19. Vincent - A Dog. May or may not know things.
  20. The Pilot - I’m including him here, but he got eated by something - we still don’t know what, and it’s five years later - in the very first episode (entitled, “The Pilot.” Get it? Get it?)

Of these 20, only a very few have potentially wavering loyalties: Locke eventually becomes the leader of the group called the “Others” - the mysterious, evident island natives who are our enemies here. Michael kills two people while working on behalf of the Others after they kidnap his son. Sawyer is kind of a selfish jerk, especially in the early seasons, but in canon he’d never work with the Others. The other 17, if we’re sticking to canon, are almost certainly Town.

TAIL SECTION SURVIVORS

  1. Ana-Lucia Cortez - Former Cop, Total Annoyance. Two facial expressions: angry and pissy.
  2. Mister Eko - Drug runner posing as a priest. Kicks ass and carries a big stick.
  3. Bernard - Dentist, married to Rose.
  4. Libby - Blonde, personification of a loose end. More below.
  5. Cindy - Stewardess.

There were others, but they were mostly redshirts of various descriptions. Ana-Lucia, Mister Eko, and Bernard were all definitely “Townish” per canon. Cindy was kidnapped by and eventually assimilated into the Others. Libby, well, no one really knows about Libby. There were all kinds of ominous hints and portents regarding her, and unlike the other characters we never saw her get on or off the plane, and she was almost surely working for one of the many bad guys, but then the actress who played her got caught drunk driving and they killed her off.

Now, to those who were not on Oceanic Flight #815. First, there are the “Others.” We haven’t met them all, but some of them include:

  1. Ben Linus - evil genius, likes cereal
  2. Richard Alpert - mysterious man who doesn’t age, wears guyliner
  3. Juliet Burke - fertility doctor, has no facial expressions at all.
  4. Tom - Bearded guy, prominent.
  5. Ethan Rom - Total freaking psycho, obsessed with Claire and her baby.
  6. Goodwin - Also a total freaking psycho, was sexing Juliet.
  7. Danny Pickett - Pointlessly hostile prick
  8. Isabel - The Others’ Sheriff and interrogator
  9. Mikhail - The Others’ eye-patch wearing communications specialist, who has been killed an estimated four billion times.

Of these nine, only Juliet has worked with the plane crash survivors to any significant degree; she was romantically entangled with Jack and later Sawyer.

In the third and fourth season, we had a frieghter arrive, bearing scary people with mysterious motives.

FRIEGHTER FOLK

  1. Charles Widmore - Not technically on the frieghter, but he’s its owner; he’s a billionaire industrialist, but at one time he was the leader of the Others. hate Ben and is his sworn enemy.
  2. Daniel Farraday - Loopy well-meaning physicist
  3. Miles - Talks to dead people
  4. Charlotte - Former island resident, archaeologist.
  5. Keamy - Crazy military psycho killer.
  6. Naomi - Tracker, works for Widmore.
  7. Matthew Abaddon - Lawyer, works for Widmore.
  8. Frank Lapidus - Pilot, nice guy.

Most of these people, if they’re around, could go either way. Lapidus is probably not an Other.

Then we have folks who don’t fit into any of the above categories:

  1. Danielle Rousseau - Crazy French woman who has been stranded on this island for 17 years.
  2. Desmond Hume - Scottish dude, crash landed on the island some time ago, has precognitive flashes.
  3. Alex Rousseau - Danielle’s daughter, kidnapped by the Others as a baby, technically one of them but not really.
  4. Karl - her boyfriend, see above.
  5. Eloise Hawking - Daniel Farraday’s mother, former leader of the others and somehow linked to basically everyone.

And there I rest. I hope this is helpful, but if it’s not, it was certainly fun to write!
